The book was 10/10, my brain melted(which I would have been very disappointed if it hadn’t) and my bones are vibrating(bonus!).

If you mean back when the show first aired (circa 2012) then I'd say more adolescent fans, bc I was actually one of those fans and younger than dipper and mabel when I first watched the show and also when it ended lol. Though there were definitely older fans (ex: most people who theorized about the show, some fanartists, etc.) that were pretty active during the show's initial run.

I'm glad Gravity Falls is back, but... I think it kida tells something about our society since as Alex Hirsch said Bill Cipher is now more acceptable and everything, that kinda means our world becomes a more evil place.
I interpreted it as the fans grew up and were able to separate fiction and reality more, as in “I can appreciate that this character’s messed up actions are very fun in adding drama and stakes in a story context and also know that my appreciation is not indicative of my morals bc this is just a story”
