That stuffed rabbit from the comic actually reappears as one of her Crimson Court trinkets. The implication that merely having it in her possession improves her medical skills and eases her mind is just heartbreaking.
I will say she has the most heartbreaking backstory.
Personally, I think it's a close second to the Runaway from DD2, who has a few odd similarities to Arbalest. Of course, we don't have the full story of the latter, so it might change.

I always used to think that arbalest’s father was some kind of a healer, because of the medics greaves trinket, her healing capabilities, maybe some barks, and the fact that her stuffed rabbit gives her +% to healing(maybe it does so because her father had thought her some medic stuff when she was younger?). That would mean that her dad was accused of witchcraft for his abilities and then killed. But on the other hand, reading lore from trinkets, especially in this case, is kind of a bad idea, so I kinda forgot about this thought untill now
She definitely has one of the most confusing stories. Initially it sounded like she ran away for an adventure, since they refer to her as a runaway. Then the comic revealed that she was forced out of the home because of the Mob.
The Father we have no idea about but that's definitely an interesting theory.
If there's anything we can trust for the truth, it would be the comic. Anything she says that contradicts it is most likely a distortion of her repressed memory.

@@davidgeorge1943 That or they could also be "comforting lies" that she tries to tell herself and others in order to "massage the truth".
The way she uses an arbelist instead of a regular crossbow reminds me of Guts from Berserk- he was able to wield Dragonslayer partially because he trained with full length sword as a kid.
She used a full length crossbow for a long time, presumably through her childhood after she escaped the fire, so she developed enough strength to wield an arbelist with her bare hands
It makes sense as to why she might have messed up the story in her mind, as such a traumatic event so young would definitely mess someone up. Perhaps if it was a runaway, her dad might still be alive and her home intact? We know this isn't the case of course, but it would ease the mind. Also, milicent(the name of her fully upgraded crossbow) might've been the name of that rabbit? btw, i got recomended your channel like a day ago, and I love your content dude!
Definitely traumatized. So it can be difficult to figure out what she is saying is true or just something she made up to comprehend the trauma.
Yeah the Milicent name was probably for her stuffed animal. Then she transferred it to the crossbow, since it was now her only "friend". I couldn't find a way to write that into the script without breaking the flow so I had to cut it. :/
Either her father or whoever took her in was of high status. If she refuses food while Afflicted she says "That will certainly give me the toots- and we are in court!" It's not quite so funny when everyone's on half health and 50+ stress 🤣

My theory for her father though is that he possibly might've backstabbed the man at arms: Barristan. Especially considering him owning a ranged weapon.
My theory was that her father WAS Barristan!
I love how Arbalest and Men at Arms's names are straight up Game of Thrones references.

Fun fact: In Dark Souls 3, the Heavy Crossbow looks nice more like her weapon than the actual Arbalest.
