    For anyone not in the know, decibels are logarithmic, so an increase of 3 decibels is double the sound intensity and a decrease of 3 results in the sound intensity being halved. For comparison, a jet engine is around 120 and a baby crying is about 110. So now you can roughly gauge how loud it is :)

    • @dftweedie3021

      Juan & Spoof. It depends if we are talking perceived or physical loudness. Studio engineers generally rely on the physical measurement of RMS energy as that is the most accurate way to measure Sound Pressure Level (SPL). It is exposure to SPL over extended time that can damage your ears.
      Poll: Is 3 dB, 6 dB or 10 dB SPL double the sound pressure?
      This is not a trick question. This is not about the subjective perceived loudness of hearing and not how to add sound sources. SPL is the abbreviation for "Sound Pressure Level". The term loudspeaker and amplification is not specifically raised with the previous survey. It's all about sound pressure the most important sound value.
      There is only one correct answer: Twice the sound pressure is an SPL of +6 dB.

    • @fupzzzable
      @fupzzzable Před 3 lety +7

      @@dftweedie3021 the correct answer is 3 dB(A) to double the SPL. 6 dB(A) is the change in SPL if you double the distance from the source of the sound( 100 meters to 200 meters). To the majority of people 10 dB(A) is the subjektive doubling of the sound.

Just a cautionary tale, I would recommend wear hearing protection. But I know most young riders won’t think that this is important. I enjoy your videos. Waiting for my Rebel.

    so i slip it on there and tighten things up. it had the "silencer" in it straight out of the box. rode it, loved it. then the next weekend i took the silencer out. wow what an amazing sound, and it seemed to have more power!
    buddy has a MC shop and a dyno so i had to find out...
    stock muff: 97-ish HP
    aftermarket w/silencer: 102HP
    aftermarket wo/silencer: 98HP

Without it you have a hot rod sound and with it it's more of a big V-twin sound. I think the sound profile does change a bit with the silencer: it's a little richer. I'd probably pack fiberglass on mine. Loud exhausts sound great and the police love them too. I'd rather be a little lower profile with the way I ride.

    Phone mics are notorious for being unable to handle high Db with accuracy, though they do still provide side-by-side or before/after comparisons on a given scale. So how much quieter the silencer is vs the straight pipe = fairly accurate. The actual numbers vs lab equip = a coin toss for how far off it actually might be.
    If you ever get a dedicated decibel meter, or borrow one, I'd be interested to see volume measured at 50ft behind the bike. Like the cops sometimes do when they're hunting for add-on tickets.

    112 db is really loud, I'm a professional musician, all I can say is that I remember one of the loudest concerts ever played was Deep Purple back in the 70's where the sound reached 117 db which made a few members in the audience faint. This is not an urban legend it's a fact. Now you might be thinking how is that possible, the diff between the loudest concert and my 2 Bros is minimal...well here's how the effect of db works. In the case of your 2 Bros exhaust put your right ear as far inside the opening of the exhaust as possible and get somebody to rev your bike and you'll get the full 112 db of your 2 Bros also your ear will possibly bleed. At the concert the 117 db were as if they were being heard directly into a close up of the human ear hence the people who lost consciousness.

    Still not a fan of the upsweep design. That will definitely prevent use of a saddlebag on that side. Doesn’t need to have that steep of an angle to not interfere with lean angle. Foot peg feelers are the first thing to touch the ground anyway. I can see how the sporty upsweep is desirable but not for me and not on this bike.

    Anyone else concerned about hearing damage from aftermarket exhausts?
    I bought the TBR with no silencer for my 2020 Rebel 500 (idles at 80 decibels, light revs at 95, louder rev around 110) and I ended up taking it off since that’s in the permanent hearing damage zone even with the helmet on when riding.

    It feels more responsive/more power since you now have back-pressure and engines tend to like that due to the siphoning effect.

    • @LifeOfBurch
      @LifeOfBurch  Před 3 lety +2

      Maaaybe. I’m still a believer in the cat providing enough “back pressure”, but I know there are people on both sides of the argument.

      @@LifeOfBurch fuel injected is less needed for this but for example, a carburetor bike benefits from back pressure unless tuned to run richer. FI will adjust better but it still helps siphoning by pulling fuel from the injectors easier than just the normal spray pattern in the cylinders when they are commanded to open

  • @lorditsprobingtime6668

    Absolutely 100% agree about Two Brothers Racing exhaust systems. In my case it was a full system on a Suzuki 650 V Strom and it was a carbon fibre muffler. It was soooooo much lighter than the idiotically heavy standard exhaust and power was definitely up after fitting it but, that could partly be put down to a surprisingly major weight reduction. The standard system on them also sounded like it was made for running around the halls of a nursing home, it was so boring and ridiculously quiet.
    I fitted that system and suddenly it became a real pleasure to ride, that I didn't expect at all but when you've got such a sweet sounding system to listen to that alone can completely change the whole experience. I loved the sound of that bike with that system on it. It was not offensively loud at all but just sounded great. I rode it several times with a go pro on and tried that in 2 completely different locations but as soon as I gave it more than fairly light throttle either something nearby vibrated and messed up the recorded sound or maybe it just swamped the built in microphone which was very disappointing not to be able to play it back and hear it properly now I haven't got that bike. I also have a DRZ 400 Suzuki with a Yoshimura system on it and while I would say it along with several other mods really got that thing moving for such a simple bike it is a bit overly loud so I have to be really careful if there's any cops nearby when I take off from lights or anything because it would get me pulled over if I was stupid enough to give it more throttle than just enough to do the job till I'm well away from them. I did run into a guy at a service station who had one of those Hyosung 650 road bikes with exctactly the same 2 Brothers Exhaust system on it's 650 V twin and I can't say it sounded as good although it was also almost exactly the same motor design it sounded like a heap of shit making a bit more noise than normal so just hearing the 2 together you could easily hear the Suzuki engine ran MUCH better and so much crisper sounding. I think the Hyosung sounded better than with their standard exhaust too but obviously the design and quality of the engine can make a big difference too because that thing didn't sound anywhere near as crisp and clean running as mine on the DL 650 did.
    Two Brothers Racing obviously put serious effort into making a really good product, or rather line of products that I'd definitely recommend as a fantastic system that improves your performance simply by removing a stupidly heavy lump of a thing and then who knows how much more by helping it breath so much better too. I traded that DL 650 on a BMW S 1,000 R which 2 years later I got wiped out big time on thanks to an inexperienced idiot launching out in front of me while traveling at 60 mph and putting me in a critical condition and not expected to survive. I've still got the DRZ 400 but that absolutely awesome BMW is gone and now I really wish I hadn't traded that DL 650 in since I can ride a more upright bike like it but sports bikes are out now my shoulders are torn up badly and even on a moderately comfortably laid out bike I can't go more than 60 miles without being in agony and it was a very pleasant bike to ride that I was going to keep but it was just so slow by comparison to that BMW with 160 hp and just insane performance that it was hard to swap to it and enjoy the ride while knowing I could as easily be riding that insane monster. The DL 650 wasn't at all slow, only by comparison to the BMW did it FEEL slow and disappointing.
    Absolutely recommend the 2 brothers gear though too. They seriously design a well thought out and very well built system that I'd recommend any day.
