Black gospel choirs learn music by rote. Culturally, it's an extension of negro spirituals where slaves sang repetitive songs while working, often with hidden messages on how to escape to freedom. This choir is following specific signals from the director on what to sing. He can improvise and stretch this song out 15 minutes if he wanted to, and the choir will follow him.

TeaJà Stapp crazy this is Ricky will get most of the credit - but it’s the CHOIR who has to really really pay attention. The littlest mistake is magnified in a song like this.
This choir gives me goose pimples such skill and dedication that Our Almighty God has put into both director and choir leaves me breathless . It is an honor and a blessing to show off what we are working with and to give back what he has placed in us . Hallelujah fantasy performance.
