So tsunami warnings are out of order just like the fire alarms were in Hawaii. It's amazing how these high tech systems happen to be down when actually needed.

That stuff on the solar panels is exactly the finish I'm trying to get on my large plastic outdoor plant pots! Seriously though, are the people still in their homes on this island? What are their chances if things get worse? Sometimes, cold wet Scotland seems a good place to live! @@lauradouglas9275 No problem Laura! Once you look up a bit of the geological/volcanic history, you can see what they're talking about. Most of the West coast was either volcanos or formed by volcanic upheaval. Glen Coe, Knoydart, Skye - my favourite and the first caldera I made out from the descriptions lies off the road from Strontian to Lochaline, around the Loch Arienas area. I'm not a geologist but I've always loved rocks, and am fascinated by the patterns you can see in them. It was only about 15 years ago I had the pleasure of talking to a geologist at Edinburgh University (wanted to identify a stone!) and he explained more in half an hour than I had found out in 50 years. If you're interested, there's geological trails around the Fort William area, Glen Roy having the parallel lines left by melting glaciers (Scotland was cold then, too, lol). The ages of the rocks around the Caledonian canal and then further north around Torridon just flummox me, I can't begin to imagine it. Anyway, I'm absolutely not well educated in the field, just enthusiastic. As I am in my 70s now I doubt I'll ever know as much as I would like to, but I do encourage you to do some research, it's simply fascinating. I'm sure some other, more knowledgeable people than I might chip in with more information for you - that's the great joy of youtube, isn't it? All the best, hope you enjoy yourself 😊

Etna erupting, Stromboli erupting, Vulcano degassing, Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei are both experiencing tremors and eq's. Italy's volcanoes are definitely keeping INGV very busy.

Really worried about Vulcano. I climbed it back in 1999. After visiting the island and chatting with locals I found out it (Vulcano) was the most dangerous volcano of the area. They explained it had been dormant for ages and it was very similar to Mt St-Helen. If it were to awaken and erupt it could be disastrous.

I have been wondering if there have been any comments about the "dust" clogging engine filters. Vehicles and boats could be useless for escape if the engines don't work.

that "dust" is partially molten when it accumulates like that so it cements on things water will not wash it away
Silki should look into Cleveland volcano / ifm volcano Alaska also a loaded super volcano. Just keep an eye on it for us all and let is know if it gets more interesting than yellow alert it just raised to. Also it could blow somewhat towards her area.

The solar panels are made from a special toughened glass and should not be damaged unless a very large rock lands on them. We have 18 panels on our roof. I think you also need to keep an eye on the Cascadia fault, it is starting to rumble there have been 3 large quakes today in the northern part.

Strong hail just destroyed a solar field in Texas. Just golf balled sized destroyed most of the panels.
I heard someone mentioned someone they knew panels where destroyed by hail.And they had spent in the THOUSANDS for them.The insurance wouldn't give them a penny for repair. @annglowacki7475

I would think that that the immediate thought of any geologist aware of the simultaneous eruptions would fear instantly what was going on. The simultaneously raised volcanic activity at Campi Flegrei and Stromboli and Etna indicate a larger under surface disturbance, such as a large pool of molten lava under pressure from volcanic activity beneath the earth and involving all three volcanoes.
What this suggests is an area of volcanic activity above which is subject to instability above this pool and involving a large regional area, including the whole Tyrrhenian Basin. On a size basis this is comparable to say Yellowstone Park in the United States, another volcanically active area threatening havoc on a similar regional or potentially even continental scale.
What creates fears here, especially with the eruption of Etna, is that the whole Tyrrhenian basin and the populations around it could now be in similar if not even greater danger, not just from aerial ash fall but from accompaying sea and local land disturbances which as well threaten a much larger local population than Yellowstone. Especially from the sea. Because at Yellowstone there would be no danger of sea involement if the region erupted. But in the Tyrrhenien Basin if the ocean becomes involved with the lava beneath the vents all bets are off and the whole region could explode like a steam boiler. Naples being right between several possibly connected volcanoes could be obliterated like a hydrogen bomb, at least it would be subject to ash and pumice fallout if not pyroplastic flows if even one of volcanic areas and volcanoes surrounding it regionally erupts. The tsunami from Stromboli could strike at any hour on a scale comparable to the explosion of Krakatoa volcano, which could within HOURS from NOW threaten Naples and the whole western Mediterranean basin. And then the ash cloud threatening air travel. Did I mention millions of people are sitting on a potential powder keg? Even now they should be boarding up shop along the Bay and heading inland from possible tsunami. SZ BA MA
I wonder why all of this activity is taking place all at once...
Silki. That part of the world has been involved in international trade and influenced language for longer than any language has existed. That is the same part of the world where Pliny the Elder died and Archimedes as well.
As such, the brown, abrasive, polishing material is a trade material referred to a "pumice" and the softer, grey, abrasive polishing material is referred to as "Rotten Stone.
When Pliny the Eder died, during the infamous "Pompeii eruption," large amounts of FLOATING TONE were plugging all the harbors in the area. This, in effect, causes the buoyancy of the boats to decrease along with adding excessive ballast to the wrong part of the boat. Even a modern military ship would be in serious peril in such conditions.
So, please do use the word "Pumice" when you are looking at the definition.
