So.... yes there is a tutorial saying you need to do the long press to upgrade your pixelings. But never does it tell you that the entire middle is a button which is what I failed to understand. Plus given that there’s exclamations marks on a lot of other stuff and other icons that look like actual buttons my feelings remain the same overall. Not to mention that no other mechanic (that I know of) requires a long press. So if you forget about the tutorial that shows up once then it may be hard to remember. Despite the tutorial others had the same problem 8:00
Regardless 10:38 is the reason I have no desire to play again. So the tutorial is nice and I wish I remembered it while making the video to give it credit but it doesn't change my mind at all.
I've played this game for too long and have gotten really good at it even with the lackluster tutorial and bad U.I. But yeah, we aren't getting an update anytime soon. What would a better U.I appear like?
Unfortunately there are no unlockable skins, only purchasable
As someone studying Web Development, that UI(edit: *UX) makes me sick lol. I feel like there was no usability testing done on this at all

I don't think it's the UI tho, it should be the UX. UI looks completely fine to me, everything looks clean. Isn't this like an important concept? cause I remember my computer technology high school class differentiating the terms a couple of times.

Hey there Keelvin. I am one of the Co-founders of Outerminds and I just wanna say, no offense taken. I appreciate the criticism. We tried our best to make a creature battle game but we are a small studio and are still learning. Hopefully if we ever make another game like this in the future, we will have learned from our mistakes. I am still proud of what we accomplished as a small team, but we can definitely improve on these aspects. Thanks for your insightful video!

Pixelings was a great game at first
It really had a lot of potential
It had some issues and most were fixed but over time Outer minds started giving less attention to pixelings
They worked on this game for 2 years before they released it
And it's really sad how they left it rotting for the developpement of another game

Tho the UI in this game does feel worse because it's vertical and thus is so cramped as opposed to the horizontal layout of the cookie run games which is unfortunate

cookie run ui only really sucks in ovenbreak rn imo but kingdom does get confusing i agree
i do agree because the ui in ovenbreak feels really sad, and kingdom is slightly better
as someone who just began playing cr:ob after a long break, it took a bit to actually get back into sense of what i was doing, it definitely gets confusing
Ui is one of the problems with the game. The other was the balancing and the connection issues/ unresponsability in pvp.

PVP is troublesome cuz the game doesn't have enough players to consistently provide you with opponents in your progress range
I understand that game development is hard and all but I just cannot look pass that UI(and UX to a certain extent) it looks very amateurish, one of the main point that I’ve learned in design is readability is EXTREMELY important, so much in fact that if the User is confused about what to click on than you’ve failed completely to design a good UI
I used to play that game years ago, you had to wait a lot, which sucked, and the glitchy boss was absolutely broken
Just redownloaded the game a few days ago, and it was kind of fun, mostly because i'm already used to the ui
It's been a long time since I've played it and even used to grind for it. I remember the option for doing offers for money came out and dang I was dusting through. Been a fat minute though the game became a lil too much for me

i think the problems are the biggest problems with free mobile games in general, cluttered colourful UI, pay to win, forced timers, limited variety in game play. sure i dont think its outerminds fault that the whole mobile game industry is this way but could always avoid the tropes ditch the power, make more variety in game play and make the ui simpler.
I remember playing this gmae at launch and somehow picked up on all the features you couldnt figure out instantly.

I remenber playing this game and actually enjoyed a lot at the start, The UI was garbage, like you said, but I looked past that because I very much adored the adorable art style and surprisingly deep combat strategy, I even managed to collect ALL PIXELINGS without wasting a single cent, but once I got there I saw myself with no reason to play through the rest of the game anymore.The game had many flaws, like the progression system and lacking endgame content, but I very much enjoyed the game despite it's flaws. Great video, Keelvin! keep it up.

@@keepyourshoesathedoor I don't think so. This guy definitely does effortful and insightful content, but Pewdiepie has been a long running creator that became a nostalgic staple for a lot of people. He practically grew with his audience.
So I don't think it's unfortunate that this guy wouldn't be able to beat Pewdiepie, it's much more fortunate to simply enjoy what you have without thinking about statistics. After all - That's actually what made Pewdiepie so liked, maybe not what made him popular but it's the effort and honesty that counts.
didn't know this game existed before watching this game, but when i saw you open a chest and it gave 3x pewds, i knew it had a card-style upgrade system.

Does anyone remember Pewds game called Poopdie?it's no longer available
You can use energy to “redo” levels and gain more XP to cards and or get more foods there’s also an extra function for rewards and gaining stuff that way, and there’s a “clothes” or avatar collectible for pewdiepie. This is all very cool but makes it a bit hard to figure out when you don’t immediately get shown these things. I was very into pixelings, but sadly the idea that it’s not just strategy based and there are very OP enemies towards the next few worlds, it makes you go back at the start to regain better things. Yes it’s replay-ability. But you just start hating the game because it’s levels you’ve seen 10 times over :/
This reminds me of Angry Birds Epic... But worse?
Well Angry Birds Epic had different issue of it being a bit too hard due to game wanting you to cash in, but I remember when I had the game I 3/3 stared all main campaign levels and even 3/3 stared some early levels in the challenging levels of end game as well, while Pixelings has a different issue of being way too easy

The only reason ive never played this game is cause it had the word IDLE in the title. Its an instant turn off cause the only thing you do is nothing, You paly them by doing NOTHING. so I saw the word idle in the games and just left it not installed.
i played this a bit when it came out i don't get how you didn't know how to level up cards didn't it have a tutorial for that?

Edit: I also don’t think there’s anything else in the game that requires you to use a long press so its still an odd choice imo. So if you forget the tutorial that pops up once then good luck.
Something about tuber simulator feels much more like a game that just happens to have pewdiepie in it's name, while pixelings feels more like a pewdiepie fans exclusive game

Its the UX mistake, before going onto UI process, there will be an UX research to understand the users and they did not do it well.
When the game released I had a really garbage phone, I downloaded this game cuz it looked fun and I really wanted to play but the app just instantly crashed everytime I opened it 🥲 then a week later I forgot it existed for years until now
Its weird that the Blue dog has its eyes Looking Up while its tongue is out, kinda Odd and out of place of a pixel game
I figured everything about the UI in pixeling because of my unga bunga brain, I pressed everything the moment I opened it, tho the long press did make me butt scratch.

When this game first released, I was one of the first to get my hands on Lulu, and it was a cake walk since that point. Although the game didn't last longer than 2-3 months for me.

I really liked this game but on the 3rd world it started to get kinda boring and it eventually got me to stop playing
The only thing I didn’t like is how Pewds kept insisting that it was better than the current Pokémon game at the time. It’s not.

My friend played the game since its release, a month in and a chest they got bugged out so it gave no rewards. One feedback report and a week of silence later and they deleted the game. Can't believe it's still running.

The idle thing is bullshit. If you can't beat a hard level, you're either bad or you don't have a lot of pixelings. When you actually obtain a couple of rare ones or even mythic ones, there are so many strategies that you can win against opponents that have pixelings which are 50+ power above yours. I'm not kidding, every time you get stuck you just build a team based on the opponents abilities. I am at level 20 and I most of the times beat levels that have pixelings that are 120+ power above mine. You just have to obtain the right pixelings. But yh, rip the arena system, nobody plays the game anymore so you have to wait 5 minutes.
Hm, when I started playing this game (I still play it) I figured everything out in menu in 5 minuts. But I get it why you are hating this game, yes its kinda hard to figure out the menu in the game but its still cool for me👍.

the UI is only problem? This SIMPLE AND UNDERSTANDABLE (for mobile games standard. Yes, they can go that low) UI?
You propably havent seen the true gacha menu-bloat horrors yet then! Just look closely (or even download, if you dare) at menu of things like Raid: Shadow Legends.
Also the play button on bottom is like standard in those types of games. I think Clash Royale started it. Same with the bar above play, i bet there are chests going on here with 3h, 8h, 12h and very rare 24h timer to get you more creatures and resources (4 chests mazimum too), but you didnt got many since it might be PVP exclusive feature. In fact UI is made well for its purpose, but the purpose is not user's comfort, its MONEY LEECHING.
Rant aside, good video, keep it up!
