Yes. The complaining about wanting different movies, but not seeing them when they drop irks tf out of me. It makes me question do we really want something different or do we just want to have something to complain about?
C'mon people, I love y’all 🖤
🇩🇪
Definitely something to complain about. It irks me too. Black folks won't admit it but many of us want buffoonery, struggle black love, and slave movies over and over again to throw millions of dollars at...and then turn around and complain about lack of variety on Twitter.
When Tony mentioned he was reviewing this film I couldn't wait to see the thumbnail 👀... and I was NOT disappointed! 😩😆😂🤣
😂gets me every time too
😂😂😂😂😂 agreed, he changed but he left James McAvoy alone though😅😅
@@TheTingram813 😅
@@kosmicjedi Cam does a GREAT job with these thumbnails! 😃👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
😂😂😂😂
This was a great film. Jeymes Samuel has become one of my favorite filmmakers. Went to see Harder They Fall five times in the theater. Can't wait to go see this again. Cultural, emotional, insightful, funny, GREAT acting, GREAT score. This film had it all. Glad I was able to catch it in theaters. And I DO PULL UP! The Blackening. American Fiction. Harder They Fall. The Book Of Clarence. For the culture, I pulls UP!
Respect... Working Together Works!!! 🏆❤️
Where can you watch this at.
I didn't see harder they fall until Netflix I guess. Waiting for this guy to make an original film. This one seems like a Monty Python rip off based on the trailer.
Correct Tony! 😊👍🏾
A.D. stands for the Latin phrase Anno Domini. That translates to “In the year of our Lord.” It's used to mark years after the birth of Jesus.
I came here to say this. Anno domini is one of the few things I remember from latin class😂
Good explanation,I never knew this-THANKS. What does BC stand for ????
@@user-be7tc2bd6e - You're welcome. I cut and paste A.D. definition from Google. 😊
I'm sure it can provide you with the breakdown for B.C. too. 😊
@@user-be7tc2bd6e Before Christ
@@user-be7tc2bd6e Before Christ. I think nowadays, they try to use more secular terminology for this type of thing and tend to favor:
- CE which is short for Current Era. This is equivalent to AD
- BCE which is short for Before Current Era and is equal to BC.
The "Warriors" shirt is EVERYTHING!!!
I went and saw it last night, I enjoyed it very much!!! But you’re right, we do need to pull up more for our movies. I need to see American Fiction real soon
Please see American Fiction this weekend, if possible. It is an independent film and looks like it has a short run. Next time you go, it may be gone.
Happened to me so many times.
@@Lilboozibert I’ll definitely try. I might go tomorrow if time permits
You're spot on about quality nuanced black films like this and American Fiction not getting our black butts in seats bro. I saw both movies this weekend and me and my wife were the only melanated folks in each showing...
What's American Fiction about ??? Is it any good ??? Thinking about going to see AF.
Cuz black people are conditioned to either enjoy comedic minstrelsy or violence and trauma. Conditioned to be entertained and take in media on a surface level.
Cause black people don't want to see this type of crap anymore. Give us some sci-fi or anything that doesn't involve religion or racism in any form.
@@user-be7tc2bd6e - I thought AF was phenomenal! Tony did a review on the film on his channel.
@rezwolf83 - Interesting. I created an event to promote (for example ) American Fiction but even without the individuals that accompanied me our audience was predominantly Black. 😊✊🏾
I saw the book of Clarence on the 13th and American Fiction on the 14th. I love them both and their soundtracks. I hope we get more black ensemble casts with great stories.
I really hope people check out both. They’re so nice
Haven’t heard of American fiction , about to check it out now
@@ceeaz1633 Enjoy brother, its one of the best films I've seen in a long time and like this film, a predominantly black cast.
American Fiction sucked man
@@prabhdeepdhahan1147 lies. That movie was great
If you're hesitant about it, it's not blasphemous. Clarence is atheist and wants to "know" God is real vs "believing". Go see, it is a good film.
It was a great film . Had me weaping like a baby towards the end .
Me too!😢❤
Same here!
I really enjoyed it too! Thought provoking, elements of surrealism, dope soundtrack, great cast, creative approach, etc. Might see it a second time.
Yes Tony, A.D means Anno Domini year of our Lord, his birth
I was todays years old: AD don’t mean after death?!??
It wouldn’t make sense to mean after death. BC is before Christ so Year 0 is the start of AD. if it meant after death it would be year 33 because that’s how long Jesus lived.
It's all fake anyway....
@@marshallelliott8894 what’s fake?
I think it’s Latin. I’m too lazy to look it up tho 😅
Girl I just learned it too
I watched Origin. One of the most beautiful movies I've seen! I'm cutting back on spending money, so Origin was my movie of the month, but I look forward to seeing Book of Clarence when it's on DVD or streaming.
Thank you. Everyone needs to see this movie.
Tony definitely would be rocking those ‘The Biblical Bakery 7s’ in these BC/AD streets!
Movie was 🔥. I pull up on black movies. On opening weekend it goes black movie, black lead(Creator), everything else. Those superhero movies will be just fine. We got to love us first.
Yes!🙌🏾
The Book of Clarence. Was a great movie filled with an amazing cast, plot, and meaning. The lesson that I got out of the movie is not to "JUDGE" others and that we should "BUILD" others up and not try to tear them down.
God sees all of his children as positive beings, masterpieces, and wonderfully made.
Let's all spread love, joy, peace, appreciation, happiness, harmony, passion, grace, and mercy. ❤❤❤
Shoutout Anna Diop! I knew she had the range in her but I’m glad she finally gets to show it off in this.
Preach Tony! I pulled up for this, The Blackening, heck even the latest House Party. I greatly enjoyed all three. I'm ashamed that I missed American Fiction but I will be buying it when it's released on Blu Ray.
Very well reviewed and EXCELLENT message... We deserved that moment on the GRILL... Working Together Works!!! LET'S GOOOOO 🏆❤️✊🏿✊🏽✊️✊🏻
Facts. Largely because of timing and where i am in life, this has become my favorote movie all time.
Rubs hands like bird man 👏🏾 I’ve been waiting for this one lol
I was waiting for this review and I definitely want to check it out. I hold your reviews with high priority and you never disappoint! I never watched the price of Egypt🤭🤫
I thoroughly enjoyed the book of Clarence. I agree it's a conversation starter.
Keeping it real. Support various stories.
Glad you got to check it out. I really enjoyed it and beyond appreciative of Samuels' insistence on black representation in spaces where they historically weren't and historically should've been. Seeing the apostles as black men hit more than I was prepared for.
Read the bible as it is written and you will see the people of God were black ( Book of Job 30:30 my skin is black upon me) and still is today black people, all shades of brown. Some may appear to look like the other nations because Ephraim is a cake not turn and has mingle with the people around him.
Our enemies has take crafty council against us and has kept us from becoming a nation by erasing our identity, history, savior and our history. They have given us lies for truth.
Yes! I got chills when the apostles came on the scene, and then the Messiah walked through the middle!! 💪🏽
You convicted me, Tony Baker. I rarely go out to the movies. Most of the time, I wait until I can pay to watch them at home. BUT, one thing I always do is buy tickets for Black films while they are in the theater. I didn't actually see CREED 3 until it was on Amazon Prime, but I had bought FIVE tickets for it on opening weekend to support it. Same with *ORIGIN.* I didn't know about The Book of Clarence until right now while watching your review, which is sad. *Are the Black films we NEED to support just not advertising?* If we all show up and show out the way we did for the first *Black Panther* movie, then Hollyweird would understand that we want quality.
Thank you Tony! Great review and absolutely spot on. I planned to see Origin tomorrow but it’s not playing near me; I’ll probably have to go into the city this weekend to see it. I’m looking forward to your review of Origin 😊👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙏🏽❤️
This movie was amazing man....and the ending tho!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for this review! I absolutely LOVED this movie! I have seen it twice already. I have never felt so intense about a movie since “Crash”…please encourage everyone to see this flix.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I’ve been telling everyone to please get out and support this movie.
Great point about supporting movies that show us by us living and loving like everyone else. Answer no! So no more complaints
Cool, you made my mind up pimp! You signature sandals would be them "Air Jesus" 3's; The Trinity drops!
Tony...I'm glad you got your frustration off of your chest...but PLLLLLLEASE don't put that onus SOLELY on us Black folks cuz our 13% of the population (which includes a disproportionately high amount of incarcerated individuals) do NOT control how LIMITED the AVAILABILITY of these Black films are.
They don't be playing those Black in our neighborhood, city, county...or sometimes even our state!
Perfect example, your recent film "Outlaw Johnny Black" was only playing in ONE theater out of the usual THIRTEEN theaters in my neck of the woods. It also had the least desirable showtimes AND only a FEW showtimes so I wasn't able to pull up.
The system is SET UP for NUANCED films starring Black folks to FAIL with LIMITED/ZERO MARKETING & LIMITED/ZERO AVAILABILITY so that same system can try to shame and blame us and say that nobody wants to see the films when they make it damn near impossible to see in the first place! 🤬
Things are slightly better than they used to be it's still nowhere near where it SHOULD be!🙅🏾♀️
That being said, yes I DID see those films, except for The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster - and that's because it wasn't shown within a 500 mile radius of me. 😡
(Inhales and exhales slowly and deeply then gets off her soapbox)
Here, here! 🎉 💯
And when they put movies like these in the theatre, they have such short runs.
@@Lilboozibert - EXTREMELY SHORT runs! 😭
This was a good movie and something different from what I thought. I will definitely watch it again. Please watch it before you judge it. Also the soundtrack is really good!
Appreciate the review. I'm definitely checking it out next weekend.
A. D is actually Latin and stands for "Anno Domini" short for "anno Domini nostri Jesu Christi" it means in the year of the Lord Jesus Christ which means they started counting on when HE was born.
This movie is great. I do hope more people watch it. There is more to this movie than just faith.
Tony should’ve been in the movie
When I walked out the movie theater, and the sun’s raises were peaking out the clouds I felt a warm relief. Dang near cried, but it felt good seeing that movie.
saw it and it def is an amazing movie... it isn't a remake of History of the World pt 2; but more about the plight of a sinner and how he found God
I agree with you. It was a good movie, worth supporting. Touched on so many relevant issues and seeing biblical people depicted closer to what they would’ve looked like is indescribably inspiring.
Exactly!! I loved it! It's so thought provoking for our community.
Loved this review as always Tony don’t miss and 100% agree with what he had to say! Also ugly cried at Passion!
I’ve never heard about this movie to just now! All the movies you named except the blackening I never heard or only heard once or twice but now I know and I’m going to pull up on all of them!
@Tony
Real shit! Thank you for saying it
Went to see the movie about 4 months ago when it came out. Loved the movie so much I bought it online and watch it whenever I want to see it, which is every weekend. Thank you for the best review. OneLove
Just saw this movie and it’s breathtaking! God is real! God is good! Great African American cinema
Tony, this is the review I’ve been waiting for on this film. I thoroughly enjoyed Both!
I loved loved loved this movie. I pulled up and when i say my daughter and i were the only ones in this theater....😢 however, it was a great date. My daughter loved it, and so did i. 9/10 highly recommend
Thank you for giving me an insight about the movie.
Great film! Great review, Tony!
It was a GENIUS move to set this in Biblical Jerusalem, (still drenched in its own issues) but missing the deeply mired oppression of the New World.
My ashy feet will be taking me to see American Fiction this weekend as well as Origin, Imaginary, and GOAT when they drop. Definitely not American Society of Magical Negroes, though, but no judgement to those who partake.
I'm not sure if this counts but "Talk To Me" is one of the best, unique horror films of the decade. It's from Australia.
I also saw Exorcist Believer (but that was mainly to ditch candy duty on Halloween last year).
Damn I'm pulling up to watch it today. Gotta vote with the $, and they marketing it so can't blame them on that. You right Tony. I was gonna wait to stream American Fiction but I should go check that as well.
I’ll have to go check this out. I’ve seen American Fiction and The Blackening.
First time seeing your content, very nice. Your quite funny!
Love the Rant, seeing this today
Facts Tony, we need to pull up. I'm guilty of not pulling up
Loved it !
Tell em Tony .....support our own films or hush
Yes, I checked out the blackening and actually loved it! And plan on seeing this film along with American fiction.
This movie was amazing. I did cry as well.
Loved the movie, paying to see it again soon.
I'm with you on the film. It was excellent and different. And you're spot on with the black film support. I saw Origin and did an American Fiction / Book of Clarence double feature the same week.
Saw this opening night in a theater with like 4 other people lol. I thought Harder they Fall was better & more cohesive. I give it 3/5.
I'm definitely going to check this one out.
I love the black movies! I saw American fiction and the blackening. Loved them
Great commentary
Yep doing my part and this movie is up next. American Fiction was the best
Sad to say, but the people pulling up for Madea movies are not the one's complaining about slavery & drama movies. Black people who enjoy Madea movies are the majority in the Black population, that's how Tyler Perry is soo rich. Duh lol! The majority of black people will always pick a hood classic or a Lifetime drama over anything sci-fi/fantasy/out of the norm.
Was a very good movie. Like you emphasized, the story, acting, imagery & soundtrack was on point!
Just saw it. Great movie. Great performances. Love the way Jeymes wove in the nuanced messaging. Very symbolic movie. 👍🏿
"Talk to em" - Conway the Machine. Real talk though, thanks for calling our people out on the lack of support but frequent complaints ✌🏾
Thank you Tony I appriciate you're review , and I'm glad to see more peole of color giving reviews im indefinitely tired of watching W culture vultures
I liked it but I can't deny it had problems. Fun ideas, good performances, great score, but tonal whiplash, characters change massively on a dime for no reason, and the metaphor is kinda muddy.
Also hell yeah I pull up to the black movies. This, American Fiction, The Blackening, all movies I saw in theaters opening weekend ✊🏾
Yesssss!!
Ok, I actually feel like everyone who called this film blasphemous before its release needs to apologize. The film was great, but the stigma killed the box office performance.
I just went to see this today and I thoroughly enjoyed it! ❤
Just purchased this on Blu-ray. Loved it.
Just started back going to the movies. Watched American Fiction this past Saturday. Planning on watching the Book Of Clarence next week. This month and next are going to be a feast for black movie goers
I got to see a test screening of this back on January 3rd, I thought it was a really special movie, a ton of style with the camera work and act 3 had me very heartbroken, an unexpected favorite of mine going forward
‘Not what kind of Robe I’ll be rocking’ 🫠😭
I always grew up being told AD meant "after death", but found out later in life that it stands for a latin phrase meaning "the year of our lord". So I totally understand your confusion
They didn’t push this movie enough. I went because of the actor. Didn’t really know what it was about. Great movie though
Saw it today!! Saw Origin last week! Both were great!
I thought the movie was cool and I don't regret seeing, but not a must see. It had brilliant moments and I think it had potential to be so much more. Compared to food it was good, but a pinch of this and a scosche of that and it would've been mind blowing. Good tho
I have wanted to rewatch a movie in a long time. I thought it was phenomenal. My new favorite!
You're right about us pulling up. That's how I feel about hip hop. Everybody wants real music but when it's being delivered, nobody is supporting it.
This movie was very good! I'm surpised at how it's not performing well. I do also agree with the call out.
You were spot on with your review and the soapbox about supporting these diverse projects. Question on deck... do you think Jesus setup Benjamin on purpose?
yoooo nice work!! and where the fuuuu k did you get that warriors tshirt😁!!?? keep creating g!
The soundtrack is amazing! Every song that played in the movie moved me. The acting was great. It was a bit slow for me at the start, but it eventually picked. I laughed and also cried. The fight scene with LaKeith and Omar was really done well. I already saw American Fiction last month( Jeffrey Wright doesn't get enough accolades for his body of work) and I'm planning to see Origin this week
I loved it! It’s a shame it hasn’t done well. I believe one reason is Christians believe it’s blasphemous. I even saw a live done by a preacher with thousands of followers, and he said it was blasphemous, yet he hadn’t seen it.
It’s a powerful movie that shows us as powerful people. I pray it will get more support.
I couldn’t have said it better myself so I won’t. This movie was amazing two out of two for Jeymes Samuel 💪🏿🔥
I pulled up for all the movies you mentioned! American fiction was the best out of all of them!
Tony's shirt tho!👀🔥🔥
I don’t go see everything just because someone tells me and I don’t go see it just because it’s got black in it. But if it’s a good story and it doesn’t mess with my morals or certain beliefs in a way that I feel it disrespectful I’ll definitely check it out as a grown man who’s lived a certain level of life I’m not just gonna sit in front of anything.
Movie is great
Yes I am. In the last few weeks I’ve gone to see The Book of Clarence, The Color Purple, American Fiction and Origin.
I’d love to pull up to American Fiction... but it’s in select theaters (meaning hardly none). 🥴
"yall should ceck it out and form your own opinion" has swayed my standing and i will go watch the whole movie now lol
