West coast swing was developed for crowded dance halls. It was done in a "groove" - BACK AND FORTH. May it has changed. That was not the west coast swing I knew, did and taught.

It definitely has changed through the years, but you'll notice this it NOT a crowded dance hall, its a pro demonstration for an audience. On the social floor you're not going to see nearly this much traveling in the dance, it will be smaller and tighter (depending on how crowded it is, of course).

Wouldn't be nearly as popular now if it stuck to traditional roots. I guess that the petition to change the name to "modern swing" or something along those lines has merit in order to segregate the old from the new.
