Goosebumps guaranteed: German military music plays march Robert Bruce - incredibly beautiful

- Also known as King Robert March or Marche des soldats de Robert Bruce
At 33 degrees Celsius (said the outside temperature display of my car) on the Munich Square of the Bonn Hardthöhe, the music corps of the German Armed Forces under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Christian Weiper plays the "March of the Soldiers of Robert Bruce".
These are the moments when I love what I do. Goosebumps guaranteed.
The occasion was the handover of command of the Armed Forces Office (SKA) on Sept. 28, 2023, and the outgoing commander, Maj. Gen. Franz Weidhüner, had requested this piece of music as a farewell.
I thank the PIZ SKA for the invitation and the possibility to set up my equipment directly at the square.
I thank the head of the MusKBw for the briefing and the short official channels.
And to the musicians - Bravo Zulu! I am speechless. That was great.
If you would like to support me and my work, I would be very happy about a small gift:

Every Euro helps.

Well done from bonny Scotland Wonderful music
Oh Oh - My ancient Prussian roots are sprouting listening to this. Such beautiful music and so eloquently played. I can only hope it is never again needed in a field of battle but only relegated to fond memories of loved ones lost in times of war. And let us rejoice in our ability to bring forth peaceful times ahead. It is so much better.
Wunderbar! Symphonische Qualitätsmusiker. Danke schön. (US Army Bandsman 1968-1971)

Merci beaucoup. Bravo à tous.
c'est bien dit camarade .
This tune was played by the Scottish soldiers who accompanied Joan of Arc at the Relief of Orleans.
magnifique !
Sehr gut gespielt!!! Kompliment, meine Damen und Herren! 👍👍👍
Excellent performance. Music transcends all nations, all cultures.
Magnifique interprétation ! Avec de très belles nuances musicales ! 🇫🇷👍🌹🇫🇷👍🌹🇫🇷
Wow. I'm Scottish, from dumfries. I remember being told as a boy that Robert Burns, our national poet took a tune that was supposed to have been played at the Battle of Bannockburn, and used the words that King Robert the Bruce reportedly said to encourage his troops before battle, and used them for one of Scotland's most patriotic hymns "Scots Wha Hae".
"Tyrants fall in every foe."
Lest we forget.
Said to be the same tune played by the Franco-Scots army in front of Jeanne d'Arc at the siege of Orleans in 1429.
Much like Shakespeare's "Band of brothers" speech from Henry V, an idealised version of what may have been said in order to raise patriotic fervour in later generations
When Joan of Arc entered Orléans in 1429 her troops included a contingent of Scots who performed this march.
Very subjective but I always felt this melody as both very Scottish and undated: as much from 1314 as from the 21st century.
It is sometimes said that it is by being the most ourselves that we are the most universal. Would this be an example?
@jeanpierrechoisy6474 I take this as a direct question, but have no immediate answer.
For me "Freedom" is something I take for granted, unless it is challenged, in which case it is most definitely worth defending.
Fortunately I live in a country which has never lost its freedom since 1314, and would like to keep it that way.
Long live liberty. Those who have lived without, or who are fighting for their own now will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Greetings from Scotland
@@thomasgeddes4817 I leave the theme of music but not that of Scotland. More than 20 years ago I spent 5 weeks in Scotland focusing on wildlife with my eldest son, then finishing secondary school.
More recently I spent 16 days there with my daughter and my second son, invited by a couple very concerned by the reintroduction of the Beaver in Scotland and who had made two field information trips to my home, in the southern French Pre-Alps.
Besides the wildlife, it is one of the parts of the world where I have stayed whose landscapes impressed me the most. Although as an inhabitant of the Alps, I have no reason to complain from this point of view.
We could be less enthusiastic about the climate, many French people would say.
But not me: during each of my two stays, I enjoyed an exceptional summer with good weather.
During my stay with my eldest son an old lady said to us: “You brought good weather: come back! come back!”

Maravillosa interpretación, un gran aplauso, Me emociono. maravillosa interpretación.
Wirklich richtig gut!

Beautifully played 🇩🇪🇬🇧
Magnifique interprétation !
MAGNIFIQUE.....

Very beautiful. Germans don't do things by halves, including music!
Magnifique..
I enjoyed that. I retired from the US Army Airborne after 21 years in 1993. I was stationed in Italy from 1976-1979. Went up to Germany many times.
Scots wa Hae
Beautiful rendition
It's amazing !
Ganz, ganz toll und bewegend
grandiose
Traditional in the French Armies since 1429, when it was played by the Scottish troops at the siege of Orleans.
A Scottish contingent was fighting the English troops with the French since 1420...
Probably the oldest military march still played regularly.
As a French woman I thank you for your comment. 👏🌈🙏
With Joan of Arc?

Super !
Most moving. I have a Son named Bruce. Yes, his excellent majesty, King Robert did influence my choice.
His Grace (only pretentious, foreign Monarchs are majestic) Robert I (the Bruce) ruled Scotland from 1306-29. His son, David II, died without issue in 1371, allowing his Grandson , Robert II to found the Stewart dynasty.
Großartig! Danke!
a great Scottish anthem, see approach proud Edwards power
very nice, beautifully done Wunderbar.
Bravo, bravo

Immer wieder beeindruckend. ein würdiger Abschied.
Brilliant rendition of this Piece of Music, by possibly the Best German Miitary Band.
Possibly. I like to recommend the Gebirgsmusikkorps Garmisch-Partenkirchen of the Bundeswehr, directed by Oberstleutnant Karl Kriner!

EXCELLENT GRANDIOSE !!
Lovely performance! Great Piccolo and Flute. And, very impressive conducting.
I second you emotion, on all counts. Not many would notice the excellent conducting.
In the US we would call him the drum major. I'm curious, what is the German name for someone who leads the band in parade and conducts them in concert formation?
Perfektion !
I can feel it! My brother was in WWII, and my relationship with Germany was somewhat strained, but as a war veteran myselff, I FEEL this music, and I love it! I can see young soldiers marshaling for battle!
MARAVILHA !!!! ESPETACULAR !!!!
Boah, MusKBw.
Boah, Bonsai.
Wahnsinn.
Muy bonito 👏👏👏
A nice arrangement (and new to me) of what I would call Scots Wha Hae or Bruce's address to his troops before Bannockburn and until "Flower of SCotland" was our defacto national anthemn.
Superbe interprétation !
Magnifique
great video Joaquim Antunes da rocha São Paulo Brasil
Wunderschön!
The tune, "Hey Tuttie Tattie," is probably 13th/14th century, but is generally used in Scotland for the Burns Composition, "Scots wha hae."
Wonderful!
Dankeschon this is indeed incredibly beautiful.
Thank you.
Linda emocionante!
Fantástico viva Alemanha
Beautiful Sound Excellent 😮
Thank you.
I've not heard that march before. It's very musical and well played. The drum major does a wonderful job of bringing this brilliant tune to life.
Conductor..The drum major is the man with the glases on the left side 🫠
@@BadBonsai1 Thank you for that information. It's worth focusing on the conductor to see how he builds the sound from small in the beginning to big at the end.
@@voiceofreason9238 yes, i like him and his orchestras a lot. One of the best conductora in Germany.
