    Guys, that engine is spinning over way to slow. I'm with diesellivesmatter on this one. A good set of jumpers hooked to a truck with high idle and hooked directly to the starter and she should spin fast. It had an ether knock for sure but there was another weird noise even before you gave her a shot of ether. I'm hoping this one turns out well for you guys.

      Where the positive goes into the starter housing it is melting. The starter is bad and there is a bad connection. We tried with a jump box added and the battery is fully charged.

    Chances are it's got a spun bearing on the crank or some thing else major if it's knocking like that when it's running. take the oil filter off and see if it's got metal filings in it and drop the oil and see if you got any in that and on the drain plug. If you got to rebuild it those motors are famous for dropping coolant in the oil from porous blocks. it's not advisable to rebore worn bores and put oversize pistons in , it's better to bore and sleeve them back standard. It wouldn't be the first time a blocks gone porous after a straight oversize re bore without sleeves fitted. That tractors got to be cheap because of what that motor might cost to sort properly. A friend of mine did an 8630 that's the same motor a few years ago, it was around 6K Canadian and apart from the rebore he did the rest himself ,and parts have gone through the roof in price since. The starters the least of your problems L.O.L. Good luck and take care.

    I was looking right in front of the cab. Those screens you can see through to the other side. The air to air system seems to be missing. Those systems on our Two TW 30 tractors have not given any problems over the last 40 years bought one new they have closed to 9,ooo hour each. I’ve seen people putting straight chrome pipes on them unhooked the hose going to the factory muffler. This hose cleans the air to air system unhooking it clogged up the system. A big expense to fix. If you’re watching those tractors pulling hard like a silage chopper it will look like a puff of brown dust coming out of the muffler every now and then. This is dust coming out of air to air system. They’re self cleaning for the most part. I think we have cleaned our about 2 times in all theses years. We kept the factory system up as it’s supposed to be. This is free horsepower if it’s running right. We were cutting 200 acres corn plus 100 acres small grain silage per year. We were cutting silage per ton with less diesel fuel than other farmers using JD tractors. Not only our farm but others reported the same results. Check into weather this tractor had this on it from the factory it it did its going to costs to put one back on it. Maybe you could find a good used one. engineer said these tractors were out front on this technology that came from Europe. A head of their time.

    @Ford7710 Před 5 měsíci +2

    That’s an 83 or 84 model. They are great tractors. Fuel stop IN is run fuel stop OUT is stop. Always push it back in after you shut it off.
    The motor is a 401CI 6.6L Ford motor. The injection pump has a button in the shutoff lever. Give it full throttle and push it in. It should click. Then start it. The dual power is the button between the clutch and brakes. Drive it around and figure it out.

  • @kennycraze
    @kennycraze Před 5 měsíci +2

    Did nobody think to check the coolant level in that thing? One possible reason the oil level could be way above normal is that the bottom third in the pan is antifreeze! Sleeved engines can develop perforations in cylinder walls allowing coolant to seep into the crankcase even when they are not running, just sitting. Good idea to loosen the drain screw on the pan a bit to see if water comes out! Of course there will be no compression in perforated cylinders either.

    • @poorfarm-nn6ii
      @poorfarm-nn6ii  Před 5 měsíci

      We did check the coolant level and it was very low. But after starting it we didn’t find a milky oil on the dipstick so we thought it was fine. We worked on it yesterday and this next video will tell the tale! It’s coming!! Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment!

    Well, like I always say, win some, lose some lol. I have an aching suspicion there is something not great going on in that motor…
    May want to check the oil again, you mentioned it was way over full and in my experience that means there is a bunch of water in the bottom of the pan. Water is heavier than oil and will go to the bottom. Had that on my 1100 and my 1155. Good luck! Still a cool old tractor!

    • @poorfarm-nn6ii
      @poorfarm-nn6ii  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yeah it’s on a fairly decent slope facing down hill. After getting it started I checked the oil again for signs of water in the oil and there wasn’t any. I probably should have put that in the video as well. It is low on coolant so that was a concern of mine. The tractor was towed back here for a reason so I know there is going to be some issue. Hoping for a clog in fuel system or something like that but this starter melting made it impossible to start. A lot of guys saying I need more juice but with that big batt and a jump pack it wasn’t spinning fast enough and was inconsistent. Plus the smoking and melting around where the positive goes into the starter is a big indication of a short. Got a starter ordered and will revisit as soon as it arrives. Was cold out there too. In the 30s, so it was sort of a cold start. Has a bit of a fuel drip near the pump so I know the fuel pressure wasn’t up to par right off the bat. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching and commenting! Keep up the good work. I enjoy your vids!

      @poorfarm-nn6ii  Před 5 měsíci

      I guess I should add there is 20-30 minutes between these starts due to the starter melting. We were letting it cool completely. But the way it’s edited would make it seem like I’m constantly spraying fluid down its throat. The fuel system is dripping so pressure probably isn’t great. This tractor was towed to this spot because it quit. It may be a catastrophic failure too. We are just trying to get it to start due to several uneducated opinions of what’s wrong with it. I do appreciate you watching! Thanks

    When you know it's the wiring and you ignore that you are prolonging the agony. I had high hopes when you brought a 'real man' battery, not a couple sorry excuses and a cobbeling kit like old Hank and Wylie, but then you brought no tools or cables or even tried to correct the smoking connection. Electricity turns into one of two things when connected to the starter, a magnetic field, or heat. It's the magnetic field that turns the motor, the heat on those connections is just lost energy that keeps the starter from doing its best work. With old diesels like this you need that starter to do its best work!

    That engine was used in tractors and trucks. Trucks might a cheap source for used engines; buy a running truck. Never tried swapping in a truck engine on a TW; works on many other tractor models.
    Many other TW's use same engine at different hp ratings.
    Run it with the pump settings that come with it to not overload the transmission and axle.
    That model is nearly the largest and latest of the TW series.
    Also a running engine from a smaller TW would have had an easier life from being turned down and could be another source.

      Well , it’s a big arse tractor . I think they were built in Europe weren’t they ? I may have taken the starter off and bench tested before I invested in a new one . Look forward to your next step -

      @@TKM1951 thanks. The positive post where enters the starter housing is melting. There is a short in the starter for sure. It’s melting the case and smoking. Causing a slow and irregular crank. New starter is like 235 bucks. Getting it rebuilt was 6 weeks out.

      Battery is in great shape and we tried with a jump box connected as well. The post going into the starter case is melting. There is a short in the starter. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

    Take the oil cap off and see how much blowby when it starts. We had a forklift like that sounded like a hole in the piston, started like a pulling tractor and had as much blowby as it did exhaust.
