Man this thing's cool! i was impressed by the amount of backflips it did on big tires!
Yeah if it hadn't broken I could have done more. I was kind of building up to just holding the throttle down when I left the ramp but never quite got there.
Wow! You really did a great job on the upgrades. I think this setup on 3s is perfect. You created a monster. The little guy really rips.
Yeah it's definitely more spicy! Thanks for watching :-)
Great vid! Keep it up with the new places to bash. See you soon after I am home from Dallas, Texas. Watching the Sweet Sixteen. The only thing I am missing is an rc car to run out here. Any ideas on a good travel rc car? Batteries 🔋 will be an issue.
Batteries aren't really as volatile as some people think they are. As long as you don't get them too hot you can travel with them. Personally I think smaller is better when it comes to traveling.
“Out with the old and in with the overpriced…I mean new!”😂😂😂😂
:)
Yeah that got me too lol
@@AnthonyBencomo Glad you've enjoyed!
Such a great job with the upgrades. I agree that the 3s setup is perfect. Would you mind sharing a link or product information to the Mamba Micro Xtreme combo that you mentioned would fit better than the motor that you installed? Thanks very much. Really enjoy watching your videos.
I don't know for sure that the 1007 motor would fit but I've had other people say to try the combo with the 1007 motor at I think 6,700 KV. You should be able to find that combo on Amazon.
Awesome upgrade video! I would've thought they were more upgrade ready and reliable out of the box for that price, it's kind of disappointing. Lots of good info as usual thanks and keep it up! 👍
Unfortunately not really. The stock drive train is fine for stock power and mild 2s brushless but you need to upgrade at least the differentials if you want to go further than that.
Great video! We love seeing our tech in action!
Glad you enjoy. It's a beast!
That was pretty insane 👀 Very impressed how it based with stock tires on 3s though 🤩
Yeah I didn't expect the stock tires to hold up as well as they did. I would probably go a little bit bigger but to be honest it's not really necessary there. They're good
Great vid like always. Keep grinding bro
Thanks!
Amazing, have u checked already any mjx/hbx products and done some comparison/review?
Yeah I've done reviews on pretty much all of the little cars.
Hey I actually like the the upgrade. Awesome job👏👍👍👍👍
Thanks Glad you enjoyed :-)
Me and my daughter lover your overkill videos we live in Memphis TN Awesome!!!!!
Thanks I've got another one coming soon :-)
You should start posting links to the parts you add to these trucks, that way those of us that want to do these upgrades can easily source them. Other than that, good video! These trucks are a TON of fun. Bought one for my 6 year old (yes he is young, but I got into hobby grade RC trucks at 8 with a TMAXX 3.3), and being my first ARMA product, I am definitely impressed.
Glad you enjoyed. I don't do links for two reasons for the first one is that I don't want to have to keep up with the links cuz they're always changing and the second and more important one is that I don't want people to think I'm trying to profit off these videos because that's not the purpose of the channel.
Nice presentation! Looks like a fun little dirt missile 🏎💨
Yeah it's really fun on 3S and basically uncontrollable on 4s
@@DoRCsounds about right lol
Man that is fast. Great vid
Yeah and that was really only half throttle. It's got a lot left to give.
You always show some love for the community ❤️
And the community shows love back! Thanks for watching :-)
I think I am going to try the exact setup but just curious what 3s battery are you running? This is a great vid and I have been wanting to upgrade a grom soooo badly.
And what is the pinion called
Hot racing mod 0.5 1/8 in bore pinion and I don't even remember what battery I use. It was some old FPV quad battery that I had. Definitely not the ideal option.
I think you only had to upgrade the diffs and motor and esc. I'll be doing this on a budget in my next video. I'm going 3s motor swap. I remember you saying in the granite Grom video that the shocks were most likely not needed so it's interesting to see you upgrading them. Great video!
Honestly the only reason I upgraded them is because I pulled all those parts off the granite :-) I'm not sure if the outdrives are necessary to upgrade or not. I haven't run big power on the plastic ones.
COOL I like your channel!
@ReactionRC thanks!
@@DoRCyour welcome
@@ReactionRC :)
I had turned my 3s typhon and 6s radix6 into monster truggies with the 2.8 mx28s and its alot of fun. Its a nice change up from a nimble buggy to a Muggy and fun to bash around. Cool upgrade project Do RC!!
Monster buggies are one of my favorite RCs of all time! I've had a bunch of them :-)
Love this! How does this compare against the EMB buggy and/or EMB truggy?
I would say that this is similar in quality to the LC racing though the LC racing will have the advantage of more features such as all steel gears and drivetrain etc. This has the advantage in ease of repair and upgrades.
This was so cooool! Do you think you’ll do another video with a smaller motor? I would love to see a build that would need less mods
Probably not but if you take a look at my granite grom brushless video I have a budget set up in it that you should be able to get away with running 2S on without upgrading things.
You gave it the Zoomies package. It's like my dog when he get's excited. lol
Pretty much :-) thanks for watching!
i was getting a serious chrisfix vybes from this video and thats not a bad thing! i think a 3s focused system on this little thing would slap
Yeah I've heard that quite a few times. I don't really hear it myself but I'll take it as a compliment for sure!
Very fast on 4s good job :)
Yeah and that really was maybe half throttle. With the right tires location and driver I think this has 70 in it all day long.
Check out my speed run on 3 s, search for legendary Sonic beast
goddamn!!! i've been able to control my compulsive upgrading in my older age but i have a tendancy to go balls to the walls on one car a year, the TG might be that car this year. i love this little nugget, ton of fun in stock form
Do it Do it Do it.
Agreed!
Go for it it's a fun little car!
Great video! Did you forget to put the bearing on the front diff at 3:09 or am I missing something?
Good catch. Yes I did. I put them in before bashing though.
I think Im gonna do a similiar build but with a TP power motor. Sick build !
I've still never used one of their motors. I need to try one out one of these days.
@@DoRC they make some crazy powerful motors
Where did you get those goodyear tires👍, and would they do well with just 2s lipo? (If you tried on the granite grom or etc..)
They are Traxxas 7378. It depends on what you're trying to do. I'm not sure what their original purpose was but they really don't get much grip. It might be more controllable on 2S but honestly I think I would recommend trying something like 3S in fraction tires instead.
I can tell you from personal experience that the diffs can’t handle 4 packs of factory power out of the box. 😡 lol love these quick videos man! Keep it up
Yeah I don't know. I ran the granite grom on 2S brushless probably 20 packs before I upgraded differentials and didn't have a problem.
I ran 2 pack thru it stock then put in the traxxas velinion system and ran probably 7 packs on 3s before anything broke i thought it was pretty impressive for plastic diff gears
Not true. I've had my granite grom for over a week now and have put probably 20 packs of the factor 2s through it and zero issues with the differentials. And I've abused the hell out of it; hard jumps, hard acceleration, driving through thick brush, getting sticks stuck in the drive train to lock up the diff, etc, and it's still going strong on stock diffs. I will however upgrade to all metal when the local hobby shop gets them in stock as I plan to go full brushless setup.
@@EngineeringUSA Yeah I think most people's experiences are similar. As all you don't go crazy with the power the stock drivetrain is decent
@@EngineeringUSA that’s awesome to hear. Glad that people aren’t having the same experience as me. 👍🏼
I love your videos especially when your in the backyard ripping those rigs. Im too frugal to spend the 💰 on arrma or traxxas lol but my Remohobby 1631 rips on 3s 65+ mph
Thanks glad you enjoy! That's pretty fast for one of those :-)
Just wondering since you reply a lot. I cut the connector off the stock 16bl30 so it was just the metal pins, and soldered those into an xt60 connector. It’s in there good and soldered. Do I need to bring it to bare wire or will it work the way I did it. If that makes sense lol.
What connector was on there originally?
@@DoRC looked similar to a tamaiya. Also now the LMT 2mm pinion seems wobbly on the 2mm HW shaft … I’m about to give up that’s what I was told to buy on the FB page lol.
@@G35Jeesh ok well as long as it's solidly soldered it should technically be fine. There isn't a ton of currently being passed though the more connections you have the more resistance. not sure about the pinion.
Hey very good video.. can you tell me where I can buy the metal differentials?
Horizon has them but they're often not in stock.
One of these for me would be a project I’m aware there fragile diff wise but I’m still thinking of pre ordering the typhon . Also can I ask the shaft size in the typhon brushed motor please
The stock differentials aren't bad on stock power but if you're going to go brushless it's definitely worth upgrading them
Nice I ordered mine today
Pretty fun platform!
Goes like crazy! 👍 It that car was just a bit taller… I need some more space to fit my FPV gear on. 🤷
The granite grom has more room under the body than the Typhon.
@@DoRC I'm more interested in a body that's a bit larger.
@@NUeB_RCFPV bit larger than even the granite grom?
@@DoRC That's too high… ;) I now have a WLToys 124007 which is okay in proportions (w/ fpv just 120 mm high), just the wheelbase could be e bit longer (relative to it's width) and the build quality is very poor. So I'm looking for a small buggy w/ a long wheel base and a body large enough for at least 3000 maH 3S and space for the O3 air unit.
I've got a 1/10 Lasernut which is a FPV banger (see my channel) but need a replacement for the WLToy - a car small enough to fit inside a daypack but in higher quality.
Love the video!! For the CC combo what bore size is it? Is the OEM motor bore size the same as the castle? For the esc connectors did you go IC3? I plan on doing IC3 and just get regular battery’s and convert them to IC3 What do you think is that a good idea?
The shaft is 1/8" which is different from the stock one. I went with XT60 though IC3 should be fine.
@@DoRC so for the pinion size what should I be looking for 1/8 size or what exactly?
@@lilbeanboiiii Yes if you want to emulate this you'll need to get 1/8 bore mod 0.5 pinions. As far as I know only hot racing makes them. You can get them on eBay in several different sizes.
@@DoRC interesting. So tekno and robinson racing don’t carry those type of pinion sizes?
@@lilbeanboiiii it's possible that I do but in my admittedly limited search I couldn't find anything other than the hot racing ones. It seems like 1/8 in mod 5 is fairly uncommon
The offroad running portion of this video was oddly reminiscent of the first runs of the Maxx Slash with all the bouncing and crashing. Looks like a fun little rig for smooth surfaces.
Yeah for sure. I was definitely running it on rougher surfaces than it needed to be but I feel like it's a little bit different than the slash. It's understandable for a little car like this to be bouncing around on bumps like that but not quite as acceptable on a giant car like the slash. Honestly I think this thing handles rough off-road better than the slash.
@@DoRC That was honestly my first thought when I saw a Maxx Slash run. "It bounces like a little 16th scale car'. I also agree with its excusable for a 2 pound car with less than an inch of suspension travel but not a 8th scale truck. But, both are pretty good on smooth flat surfaces and at least they're tough.
@@boduke9428 Yeah the maxx platform definitely is tough.
Did you have any rubbing issues with the bigger tires? I’m getting major rubbing on turning
Yeah that's kind of the nature of the beast with a buggy unfortunately.
Do you have a link for the steel cvd and red hex for the wheels?
I just ordered the new upgraded diffs! And typhon grom
Go to the horizon site for the groms and look under optional parts. They're all listed under there.
@@DoRC thank you.
Putting the 1007 in mine and having trouble with motor mounts did you use the stock pre set mesh mount or did you go with the adjustable one?
Initially I went with the adjustable one but after fighting the mesh adjustment for 20 minutes I just went back to the stock plastic one. I was using an 18 tooth pinion anyway so I figured I would just go with it. Seemed to work well though if you're using a different tooth pinion that's probably not going to work for you.
@@DoRC I’ve tried the stock 18 and I bought arrmas motor mount kid I’ve tried every size from 18-22 meshes fine before too cover goes on but after top cover is on it’s so tight you can’t move the tires, did you experience anything like that?
Awesome build, was curious, I did a similar build and had to use an external bec with my micro castle combo, was yours different
Yeah Castle modified the X2 to have an internal BEC sometime last year. I don't remember exactly when. It is still possible to get the X2 without the internal BEC depending on how long were you get it from has had them stocked.
I bought it yesterday at the hobby store when I got the typhon grom and external bec came with it, it was the micro x2 with 1010,5600kv motor
@badmofreaker4205 Yeah it must have just been something they had in stock for a long time.
Maybe, I hope it's fast, waiting for a gear that's out for delivery. Do you have the part numbers for the upgraded shafts and diffs, etc
@badmofreaker4205 hop on the horizon site Go under the typing Grom and check under optional parts. They're all listed under there
Very cool build! Is really nice to see how easy it is to work, but the price of the full metal diffs and driveshaft is about 106 euro here in Holland, the car itself is 145 euro. Ouch.
And then the motor upgrade...
More ouch!
Again, cool build, but it comes with a heavy price. I think you could buy a Kraton 4s for you have spend.
Yeah the pricing in various countries really dictates which brands and models are going to be a good deal on which ones aren't.
nice video but how do you run without bearings? at minute 3.09 you put your diff without bearings...congratulations you're really strong 💪
I didn't. I noticed it before running and went back and fixed it :-) Good eye though!
You have made that thing into a little monster! Nice work!
Yeah it's definitely pretty crazy. Thanks for watching!
Great video. What wheels and tyres are those?(the big ones)
They're the stock team associated 14MT tires. Thanks for watching!

I would try the 6350kv 1007 motor from castle, can run up to 3s and is much shorter than the 1010. Run one with the micro x2 in my reflex 14mt and it goes even just on 2s (44mph on 2s).
Yeah for sure. I think the 10:07 motor would be more appropriate. Not only would you not have to hack up the chassis but it would also almost certainly be more than enough power.
I stuffed that 1007 into my grom and it's stupid. Had a hard time finding a pinion though where do u guys find .5mod 1/8 shaft pinions?
@calebworland967 hot racing makes them. You can get them on eBay
@DoRC do you know if the 18t is the largest? I have a 21 right now from LC Racing. I swear this thing goes 50 on 2s but the pinion doesn't look the best. Part of me wants to try and design a 48p Slipper system for the groms. Would solve all the gearing issues. But im not settled on these diffs either these little things are overpriced without having a rebuild kit available.
@@calebworland967 no I'm pretty sure they have larger ones.
The spur gear is 0.5 mod. Where did you find a pinion 0.5 mod with a 1/8th shaft? I'm assuming that castle motor has a 1/8th shaft?
Hot racing has a nice selection of them. They're the only ones I know of though
Thank you kindly!
@KevnRC You're welcome thanks for watching :-)
Where you get the parts, I see granite grom upgrades everywhere but no typhon grom. I broke a drive shaft and can't find parts
Everything from the granite grom will fit the typhon Grom. The only difference in the parts that I used is that the Typhon Grom springs are a little bit shorter than the granite grom ones with the shocks are the same length
This is the video I was waiting for the longest!!! I really want to copy your set up! If I end up pulling the trigger i will still get the 1010 motor I wanna have an over kill lil beast too. I still don’t understand why you had to take the cover off the esc? Also would this work w a dumboRc receiver? 🔥🔥🔥
Yeah I didn't make it clear in the video. I removed the cover because it was contacting the body. The buggy body has a lot less clearance than the monster truck body.
@@DoRC oh okay I see now. No motor fan wouldn’t it need one just to keep the components nice and cool?
@@Desauce512 in my admittedly limited experience it seems like the system is beefy enough to not need active cooling in this application but it was also 65° out when I was running it so that might not be the case at higher ambient temperatures.
Do you recommend getting an external BEC (I have no clue what that does btw) or just get the regular esc that comes internal with it? TIA :) or what should I go with?
@Desauce512 you definitely want to get the updated version that has the internal BEC if you can. The only reason that they included an external BEC was because the ESC didn't originally have an internal one. Having an external BEC, unless you need a bunch of extra power and are getting an external one for that reason, just adds weight wiring and complexity that you don't need to deal with.
Where do you get your upgrades? Are they just from the Granite hop ups?
Yes all of the mechanical upgrades are directly from horizon. The electronics are castle.
@@DoRC thanks! Just wanted to make sure those granite parts worked on the typhon.
Btw, that thing is ridiculous fast and looks super fun now! Thanks for the help!
@benjamin3769 Yes. As far as I can tell everything for the granite will also work on the typhon. The typhon springs are a little bit shorter so if you get the shocks you might want to swap them over though that's just dependent on how much sag you want.
@@DoRC thanks!
What receiver would I need to use the stock radio?
I'm not certain but I believe the SR 215 and SR315 would work. You might want to check with horizon on that though
Ok thanks

@@DoRC that’s unfortunate
Hey bud great video how about a parts list tho.
I don't usually do links or anything like that because they're constantly changing and I don't want people to think I'm trying to sell them something but I do list out everything at the end of the video and you should be able to Google whatever you need. All of the upgrade parts are directly from horizon and you can find them under the optional parts on horizon's website for the car
@@DoRC I just seen you throw a bunch of bunch of parts at it in the beginning of the video and was curious as to what all the parts were I didn’t think it was all of them at the end of the video.
@eliastaglioli7674 yep everything I listed at the end of the video is what I threw at it in the beginning of the video:)
What would be a good esc that i wouldn’t have to remove the top.
I'm honestly not sure. Space is pretty limited under the body. The micro X2 is already very thin and I'm honestly not aware of an ESC that would be much if any thinner.
Do you have a link for that castle motor esc combo? I'm using the 40$ Amazon special king val 😂😂 I'd like to use this later down the raid on the vorteks or MOJAVE
It's the castle micro X2 1010 4400 KV combo. There are a bunch of different places you can get them.

Where did you get the diffs?
I had these laying around. I ordered the upgrades when they first became available after the granite release. They never sent them to me so I ordered another set on eBay a while ago and then they finally sent these to me as well.
Hey friend! Can you please start adding links to all the parts you use in your videos? I really like your videos and want to upgrade my RCs the same way you show in the videos. Huge fan! You really should have more subscribers. Your videos are fun, helpful and entertaining. I recently purchased the Traxxas Slege, the newest one, and I've seen SO many videos being all OVER the place on upgrade parts. I'd really like to see a full on basher upgrade video for the sledge. Would you be interested in making a video on that?
I do have a full upgrade video on the sledge though it does have some things in it that aren't really necessary. I don't provide links for two reasons. The first one is that links are always going stale and it becomes a night where to manage them and the second one is that I don't want people to think I'm trying to sell them anything because I'm not.

I think 4s is kinda overpowered, but I recon 6s would be even better
I mean at that point let's just go straight to a gas turbine :-)
Anything can be badass if you put enough money into it
Very true!
Why did you have to take cover off esc ?
It was hitting the body. You could probably get away with out doing so but the body sitting right on top of the cover blocks air flow. I think as long as you secure the harness it shouldn't be a problem but no guarantees.
It would be useful if you posted the part numbers or the links.
I don't post links for two reasons for the first one is that it becomes a logistical nightmare keeping up with a bunch of broken links cuz they're always changing. Second and more importantly I don't want people to think I'm trying to make money off of any of this because I'm not.
Are all the upgrade parts the same as the Grom for the Typhon?
As far as I can tell yes. The only difference I found is that the springs on the Typhon are a little bit shorter.

do mjx difs fit?
It's possible but there's no inherent reason why they would. This is a completely different platform than a lot of the standard Amazon specials. They're really is no reason for there to be cross platform compatibility.
@@DoRC thats treu might be worth to check out way cheeper
Yeah they definitely would be.
Looks like a Typhon with big tires is the better choice than the Granite
I would agree with that. It's more stable and will have the same ground clearance as the granite. Basically it's a bigger version. The only downside is that it doesn't land on its wheels as often due to the flat nature of the top of it
@@DoRCIs it all possible to put the Granite body on this? Or is the wheelbase too long.
@daveshank1921 anything's possible but it's not a direct swap as the wheelbase is over an inch longer.

Isnt it crazy? Lol i knew an axle would go. Hopefully m2c can make us something
Yeah I'm not too worried about it as I don't plan on running this thing on 4S normally. It's just too much power.
@DoRC i know. Its just so much fun on this power. A center diff or a viscous coupling would make these tiny trucks perfect. Do you plan on keeping the micro x2 in it? All the upgrades are straight from horizon. You can see it under optional parts for the car. The tires are stock tires off the team associated 14 MT.
Turn your steering sensitivity down when doing high speed runs, lot easier to control.
I have a curve set for speed running but it's still pretty darty. I think the centering of the servo isn't very precise so it always kinds of end up pointing One direction or another so you're constantly having to adjust for that. A better servo or a gyro would certainly help. Or maybe just a better driver :-)
The 16th e revo gose 65mph
Theoretically yes but have you ever actually gotten one to 65 mph? Traxxas tends to significantly exaggerate there top speeds.

Go to horizon site look under the Typhon Grom and you'll find the button for optional parts. All the parts are in there.
REDCAT did it first also this is very similar if not the exact same company that made the 2 trucks the redcat volcano and the aarma Groms
Yeah someone had said that when the granite grom came out. I compared the two vehicles and they don't look similar at all. I mean they're the same style of vehicle but nothing about them makes me think they were made in the same factory. I suppose it's possible but I don't know.
Too powerful for its size and weight to be honest... Kinda reminds me of the HyperGo MJX H14BM... > car needs to be a 1/12 with some power (and not 1/14th scale)
I agree that on 4S it's too powerful but it's still more controllable than the MJX. 3S is the sweet spot for this car for sure.
First :P
Yup!
