They Thirst was my first McCammon back in October. First book I read on Kindle too! I loved it! Really loved that last chapter with... well if you know, you know. The vampires are extremely savage, scary. Palatazin was a nice protagonist and there really was a feeling of dread and anticipation throughout the whole book! I just finished Swan Song a few weeks ago and THAT, absolutely met the hype from Mike's Book Reviews. I think everyone needs to read more Robert McCammon. Swan Song is also about to be released in official trade paperback form in April if anyone wants to buy it and support him! He's slowly becoming one of the greats, in my book.
Since you like Swan Song I recommend Dark Advent by Brian Hodge. It even has a blurb on the cover or somewhere by Mccammon vouching for it. It came out a couple years after Swan Song I think
Love the book, I have the first edition. Just so you know, in the epilogue the village is in Hungary. Also the little boy in the epilogue is the main character Andy when he lived in the Hungarian village as a boy!
They Thirst is currently my 6th favourite vampire book. Loved it. Robert McCammon is so great. Unfortunately I'm running out of books to read by him. Well... there's always re-reads.
@@cds1112 Yeah. Stephen King is probably my favourite author. Whilst I don't like Salem's Lot as much as some people, I think it's very good. Salem's Lot is 9th on my Top vampire list.
I read this novel a year or two ago. Wasn't the police detective Armenian and that opening scene was him as a little boy in the old country? This book felt to me like a 1970's disaster film with "an all-star cast" except add Vampires. It's dope.
I'm a huge McCammon fan. He never fails to get my mind theater going. He writes so cinematically!
I love love LOVE They Thirst! It is screaming out for the big screen treatment. It's such a cinematic tale

I still have the paperback from 1988. It's so good. I just got the audio book so I'm hyped about it again.
As someone who grew up in Los Angeles, he absolute nailed the geography/street names and locations etc.
the author spent a weekend in LA when he was doing research for the book and said he went all over the city
“They thirst…I was drinking in every word.” Well done
I read swan song after seeing your review and I've been looking a second book from him to get into.
McCammon is one of my favorites. Read it back in the 80's and a time or two since. Love his style.
It's supposed to be a Hungarian village at the beginning, but I'm pretty sure he made it up.
Great video need to read this

@@StElna I need to read more vampire books, only read Salems lot and the saga of Darren Shan which is good
This is my favorite of Robert McCammon's novels. Have you read anything by Ray Garton? He's another favorite.
Great review
I just finished it the other day, myself. It was fantastic!
My favorite books by him are Swan Song and the Wolf's Hour.
And They Thirst. That's the holy trilogy for me.
