In short, the walls of Congress is not the right forum but the COURT.
It's congress that reviews and approves franchises. This is part of their oversight. In any case, the death threat that Digong made over SMNI is now at the fiscal's office. We will see if the Philippines abides by the rule of law in that case.

They cannot even have a proper decorum on their hearings. Imagine, they cited Ka- Eric and Badoy in contempt without determining the length of time. There was already a SC ruling limiting the contempt powers of Congress (Pharmally case), read it and you will understand how abusive these Tongressmen was during the hearing. They are targeting SMNI because their hosts are asking hard questions. What is wrong about asking our Tongressmen to explain their expenses? When Sara requested for confidential fund, these Tongressmen acted like angels as if they do not have any stain of corruption on their bloods but now that the ball is thrown back at them, they refused to answer squarely rather resulted to harassments.

Freedom of speech is a hallmark of democracy. Mechanism exist, such as the court, or through counter narratives, to address it's limit such as when it encroaches on other people's rights, or national security. Simply calling a speech, "red tagging", or "disinformation" in order to censor it runs counter to democratic principle of freedom of expression

In my humble opinion Md prof.. It should not be the only reason to shut down a media franchise..
Because it is only one aspect from the sections of that franchise which is, a law in itself..
There several sections as far as I know.. And any violation of any of this section( example ownership, business affiliations,, stocks and shares, tax liabilities and many more) if proven true and fully documents can be and should be also a ground for shouting down the franchise..
And besides.. A, franchise is a previlegde given with conditions or rules and regulations to be follow..
It is not an absolute right..

A journalist, as a self- defining term, should be responsible in writing, recording, broadcasting or disseminating accounts of true events for recording or writing them progressively in the pages of history - not writing lies or any untruth or fabricated data or events or information not authenticated. The SMNI has a long story of violations of such misdoings, so that closing it is just right.

The phrase without prejudice to any civil and criminal liability, would give the aggrieved party a platform to force the respondent to reveal its source under circumstances provided by law. The Committee cannot force Ka Eric to reveal his source, neither such revelation will be set as a condition to free Ka Eric and Dr. Badoy. Second, there is no cause to charge the anchors for spreading false information. A question is not a declarative statement that would make the anchors liable for spreading false information. To insinuate that anchors are guilty of red tagging is a long shot because there is no law criminalizing red tagging.
How do you know that the hosts lie with their statements and commentaries. Lie to you may not be lie to them if they have basis.

Newscaters are not a lawyer, wheras news anchor, they are mostly wide readers and journalists but laywer is different in terms of Laws of the Philippines. They interprets Revised Penal Code, newscasters are presentors of what is being scripted and needs some good arts of broadcasting only. But interpreting a Law is for LAWYER. Not sll Congressman are lawyer as well. Makabayan bloc and other partylist are mostly not lawyer.
