A joy to watch!! I think she was amazing & proud to be Greek. God bless her, it's important to keep the Greek tradition continuing to our younger generations.
This warms my heart, my yiayia and I used to dance all the time, at party’s and Sunday after church. Unfortunately we can’t anymore because she has dementia really bad and can’t remember anything, she’s even forgotten who I am… cherish the time you have with yiayia and paupou! One day all your time will be used up 😢
What albanians don't understand, and it's actually hilarious, is that they themselves borrowed stuff from greek dances and traditions. Pogonishte, rugova dance... First one from syrtos, the other from the ancient dorian pyrrhic dance. Then they say "It's pure, autocthonous illyrian dance" 😕😕😕 Or "Well, Syrtos and pyrrhic are ancient ALBANIAN PELLAZGIAN dances. We dance it as well, so it must be originally from us" 😂 Albanian (oops sorry, I mean autocthonous) nationalists be like: "If we have it, then we made it first. Can't be the other way around. No questions please."
The etymology of the word comes from the word tsamis, which means "tall", and refers metaphorically to the Levantine stature traditionally possessed by the dancers, since "tsami" is called fir or pine in some areas[1][2]. [citation pending] It is also called the Thief, as it was danced by the Thieves during the Turkish occupation.
