  • A look at the classic Sinclair Sovereign from 1976. A very much high end calculator which was sold for £30 between 1976-1977. Sadly like many of Sinclairs products it was unfortunatly soon being produced at a loss.

That Sinclair is the coolest calculator I have seen by a country mile. You sound different doing a calculator video I’m used to hearing your CB voice. Thanks regards chris

Looks more like a tv remote made today. It was ahead of its time.

Here in the Uk on ebay expect to pay from £50 for a matt silver well used working example right up to £200-300 for a mint in boxed shiny finish. It depends on the finish the gold ones tend to cost the most, they also came in a wooden box. A lot depends on what collectors are bidding at the time.

I was looking online for any information regarding the Sinclair Sovereign Calculators and have just came across your post today.
I really liked your video on this particular calculator.
I have recently came into possession of, I think, every single calculator Sinclair ever made, I kid you not.
I have a matt black version, a shiny silver version, a matt silver version, the silver jubilee version, and two gold versions, one in matt finish and one in shinny finish and they are all in their original boxes.
I was trying to get them to work but was unsure if the correct battery to use. As you mentioned in your video the original batteries are no longer made and I didn't want to put the wrong thing into them and damage them in any way. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hi. Thanks for your comment. That video was a long way back for me. I think i just used plain alkaline batteries from Amazon but cannot rem the exact ones. The calculator did work ok though.

Your right. People are now not wearing watches as they use the phone. Iphone's are great till you drop the buggers. :-( Thanks

0:20 What, you British are not claiming you invented the pocket calculator?

Well really you could go back to the abacus which was what, some 4000 years ago.

+Duncan Hewitt I cant rem what I used for the video. Just 2 1.5v button cells work I think.
