Being the kind of guy I am, I immediately made sure to talk to all NPC's in the town and see what they had to offer. I remember in one of your recent videos mentioning the solemn-looking soldier sitting below the large tree in the giant area. I suspect that the Ring of Whispers, which is sold by the cat with the description "Lets you hear the voices of enemies" -might- play a part with him. It's a wild assumption, but hey, that's what the games about.
I'd be interested to hear what you know about the limited enemy spawns, as well. Restoring the enemies to the world would be nice to get some info on, too. When I realized that it was a spawn limit and not some sort of.. world tendency-type thing, I got a bit paranoid about every lost soul, since the counter on how many times enemies can spawn effectively limits how many souls you can gather. Prolly not an overly strict limit given the existence of new game plus, but the fact that there's a limit at all is a big change : P.
I understand this is an old video - lots have been discovered since then, though this video is certainly still a useful aid to new players. Nonetheless, I'll list some of the important things not mentioned in the video. 1) Adaptability and Attunement both increase "Agility," with Adaptability increasing it much, much more. This is important because Agility determines the length of invincibility frames while rolling, making it easier to dodge with a higher amount of Agility. For those unfamiliar with the term "invincibility frames," it's pretty much exactly how it sounds: frames of an animation where your character is invincible. For minimalists, it's recommended to level Adaptability (not Attunement) to at least 15, but the benefit it still great up to around 40. 2) In most cases, if you kill enemies repeatedly, they will eventually despawn permanently. This can be useful if you're stuck at a certain part of the game, as you can then slowly and gradually despawn the enemies until you have a clear path to where you want to go. However, it's extremely detrimental to people who want to farm enemies for items or souls - fortunately, there is a potential fix. If you join the Covenant of Champions in Majula by interacting with the Victor's Stone, enemies will stop despawning. Further, enemies that have already despawned (excluding special enemies that only spawn once) will start respawning again, until you abandon the Covenant of Champions or join a different covenant. However, it's not called the Covenant of Champions for no reason... you cannot summon any phantoms - NPC or otherwise - while a member. That's not all of the downsides, though - the game scaling also gets raised a bit, making the game more challenging, as enemies will be stronger and more resilient. 3) All miracle healing spells now heal allies if they are nearby the caster. In Dark Souls 1, this was not the case, as only two miracle spells in that entire game could heal allies. 4) Online matchmaking is based on "Soul Memory," and not soul level. Soul Memory is a mechanic that tracks all of the souls you've ever gotten, regardless of whether they're spent, lost, or still with you. This means that a level 1 player could be matched with a level 300 player if they both have extremely high soul memory. Generally, soul memory is irrelevant for PvP or co-op sweet-spots, because everyone plays the game differently - thus, you'll almost always be able to find opportunities for PvP or co-op, unless the game is just outright not very active online. However, soul memory is important to track if you want to play along with or against a friend; you both will need a soul memory that isn't too far apart in value. The wikis, in this case, are actually useful this time for figuring that sort of thing out, so I recommend looking up the wikis if you plan to co-op or duel with a friend. 5) Normal low-tier Titanite Shards can be really hard to find early-game, despite how many Large Titanite Shards, Titanite Chunks, and Titanite Slabs you'll come across. For this reason, it's recommended that you are extremely frugal with upgrading weapons until you've reached Harvest Valley. The NPC Chloanne sells infinite Titanite Shards later in the game, once she's moved on to Majula. Additionally, the zombie hammer miners have a fairly high chance to drop Titanite Shards when they die, so farming them is also an option. 6) You actually take extreme amounts of falling damage in Dark Souls 2, so be careful! The damage you take isn't entirely percentage based, so leveling Vigor to increase your HP can help you survive some far drops. Additionally, you can buy the Silver Cat Ring for 13,500 souls from Shalquoire, the talking cat in Majula; the Silver Cat Ring greatly reduces falling damage. 7) Poison damage is terrifying. Most sources of poison damage deal at least 30 damage per second! That's over twice as much damage as the strongest poison in DS1! Fortunately, there is potential to obtain a really large amount of HP, and there are more healing items than just Estus Flasks. In fact, if you have life gems to spare, it's a generally good idea to use them while in poison areas or in a situation where you can't immediately cure poison. The travelling merchant Gavlan also sells infinite poison moss once he arrives in the Doors of Pharros, though you can also kill the large, orange butterflies for poison moss - any of the ones that emit poison gas are also guaranteed to drop poison moss when they die, so it can be a good idea to farm them in Huntsman's Copse. 8) Be very careful with treasure chests. In Dark Souls 2, many chests are trapped in one way or another. When they are opened, some may release deadly poison, while others will trigger an automatic crossbow. However, the real danger is that you, enemies, and other players can break wooden chests if you attack them too much - and if you break a chest before opening it, then the items inside will be lost, replaced only with Rubbish (literally, as there's a "Rubbish" item). Thus, it's recommended to kill all nearby enemies before interacting with wooden chests, to reduce the possibility of accidentally breaking them. 9) Illusory walls are now changed, and now have 3 'variations' in Dark Souls 2. The first is an actual illusion, which can be dispelled if you activate a nearby contraption using a Pharos Lockstone - however, every Pharos Contraption permanently takes the Lockstone, and some contraptions are actually traps. The second type of illusory wall is more of a secret door, which can be found and activated by pressing X (on Playstation) or A (on Xbox) when pressed against a wall. Doing so will cause the secret door to open, allowing you to access what it was hiding - sometimes it's a bonfire, and sometimes it's treasure. The third illusory wall is less of a secret door and even less of an illusion, but they are found in the exact same manner as illusory walls in Dark Souls 1 or Dark Souls 3: attacking. Some walls can be broken by your attacks, or blown up with nearby black powder kegs, allowing you to access what was hidden or reach a location in a different manner. Sometimes, you'll need to get creative and manipulate a large enemy to destroy the wall for you. 10) This is the last one - scattered throughout the game are invisible secret enemies, usually in the form of Undead Hollows. They die in one hit, even if you punch them, and you can reveal their shadow using a torch. These invisible Hollows drop variations of the Silky Stones and Petrified Somethings, which can be dropped in the crow nest inside Things Betwixt for random rewards - some of these rewards are extremely unique or helpful. So, a little fun challenge on the side; how many Hollows can you find?
@@leonardoe9883 Another thing I learned recently - when looking at the warp menu to travel to different areas, some destinations may have an orange border. Apparently, such a border actually indicates that the specified area has PvP and PvE activity at your soul memory range. Very neat.
Forest of fallen giants got me stucked for days especially on the pursuer guy that repeatedly beat my ass off and drained my souls btw this is best tip I have seen so far
@@didin1290 Alas, Forest of Fallen Giants - in its entirety - is roughly equivalent to Undead Burg or High Wall of Lothric in DS1 and DS3 respectively. So you've got a long journey ahead of you, stranger. Good luck, and have fun!
What a legend... This comment is more useful than some 10 min videos on Dark Souls 2. Appreciate the comment and it's insights, Don't you dare go hollow (:
If you kill the same enemy too many times they stop respawning because of Soul Memory so people with similar soul memory are matched online and you can't just kill enemies over and over to gain a large soul memory
Joining the covenant of Champions allows them to respawn infinitely, and burning an ascetic also respawns them, but both of these methods also make them stronger.
Illusury walls is probably the biggest change, instead of hitting or rolling through them you have to walk forward and press X. I literally found this out two days ago.
yeah, one of the many things that didn't need to change. It's the same button you use to read comments so if the comment is next to an illusory wall you sometimes read the message instead. Annoying enough in DS1 when there were messages next to levers.
not adaptability, agility, which is affected by both adaptability and attunement raise agility (though adaptability raises it faster) the item use speed increases at 95 and 100 agility (i had looked it up on the wiki after i told my friend)
In case you're still wondering: darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Power+Stance It gets a little complicated when you consider every aspect of it and exceptions to prescribed 'rules' but for general understanding, it explains everything you'd need to know.
Vaati, the exact mechanic for power stancing is to equip two weapons of same class AND having 1.5 times the requirements for them. For example, if you need 10 strenght for wielding them, you'll need 15 strenght to power stance them. :)
The limited spawn mechanic: if you kill enemies too often (12 times i think), they stop spawning. this is because it will allow you to get farther in your journey without having to face the same enemies you are evidently having to kill over and over again. its a newbie-friendly mechanic, but sorta kills effigy-farming of dogs. its stupid, imo lol
Micah Le Desma It's still pretty easy to become OP, you farm bosses by being summoned, I got around 100k souls easy in 20-30 minutes. In DS1 you needed like 40sh thousand souls at lvls 90-100, now you only need 15-20K. It's actually easier to level up this time around, but then again with so many more stats from the norm, it seems completely natural.
I disagree, this mechanic is brilliant. It discourages grinding/farming, and it gets rid of the annoying "I have to fight fifty wimpy, no-challenge guys for like ten minutes to get to the boss, who then kills me in two seconds" problem that the first game had. Remember what this feels like to new players. For expert players who just burn the enemies down immediately, this mechanic won't affect anything because they won't be around long enough to trigger it. Basically, all this mechanic does is subtract boring, unchallenging, repetitive shit from the game. AND there's even an in-game item that undoes it, in case you want to see the fully-populated, original version of the area!
I only have found 2 of the invisible guys. 1 of them is in the forrest of giants next to a torch above the 2 guys that throw bombs down at you where all those barrels of oil are. The other one is in 1 of the 4 cells right before that one primal bonfire boss that enjoys sitting in the dark. Remember to light that room up before the boss fight.
One important bit of info you should have mentioned is that Pushing A opens up secret walls. There are 3 types of secrets in Dark Souls 2: Pushing A (or X I believe for PS3) will open up secret rooms, attacking certain walls will make them crumble, and the final is using a Pharros stone to make a phantom image appear on a wall that then will need to be attacked.
I don't know if it was already like this in DS1 so pardon me if everyone already knew it, but I just discovered: The darker the area you're in is, your auto-aim will target only near foes. It really helped me against the Sinner in Lost Bastille, when I tried to fight her in dark room while I could lighted it up beforehand xD. In one word: always fight in light, it help greatly if you play magic or bow/Xbow. I don't know if the Sorcerer's Light Spell help your aim tought :s.
Adaptability and Attunement also up probably the most important substat in the game, Agility. It could mean the difference between dodging something and only partially dodging something.
An important note, all hidden doors (except those revealed by using a lockstone) now open by pressing the interact button (A or X) next to them, rather than hitting them. There is no button prompt, you just have to press the button when you're next to the wall. If you want to test this out, there are four hidden doors on the ground floor in the room where you fight the Ruin Sentinels. See if you can find them all.
Imbuing a catalyst with magic or dark (and possibly chimes with lightning?) will increase the corresponding spell power pretty substantially. A +10 staff of Amana imbued with magic is almost as powerful for regular sorceries as a fully upgraded staff of wisdom, difference is around 5 or so.
You can hit chests, but be wary, wooden chests can break. On Dark Souls 2,mimics are pretty rare, but it is always good hitting a chest 1 time, not more, enemies can hit chests too,so pay attention to it.On dark souls 1 and 2 you can figure out if a chest is a mimic by looking at the chain fixed on the chests. If it points to the back of the chest, its a chest, but if it points foward, its an mimic.
@@felipemiguel9907 how come that isnt common knowledge with most dark souls fans? Surprisingly i talk to a lot of people that say they know dark souls and dont know about the chain.
WHAT! I was almost hoping it wouldn't look too good since there's such a long time until the PC release, but this looks AMAZING! I LOVE the powerstance and the torches mechanics, and the guard break and the dialogue thing, heck I love it ALL! This eternal wait will be my demise, gods give me strength....
I am sure most people know about this by now, but it has helped me in a few mob fights. You can kick enemies below you from the ladder and punch those above you, right, and the rung from which you can kick an enemy on the ground (without them climbing after you) is one higher than the rung from which they can hit you with a melee weapon. Also, enemies crowding the top of the ladder can be punched so long as you are not high enough to let them start climbing down. Most everyone probably knows this, but maybe new players do not. It takes some time, but it can be satisfying in its own funny way and it has safely gotten me through a few fights, like the tower with the Heide Knight in the forest, when all those Hollows swarm you. Just climb up the long ladder, run right as fast as you can to the next ladder, climb a little bit up and wait for the Hollows to crowd beneath you and then... ...boot to the head, boot to the head, and another boot to the head.
Regarding torches: The game teaches you that you can light sconces with your torch, to permanently light an area. What it does _not_ tell you, and I only noticed later, is that you can ignite your torch at any sconce you have previously lit. This makes it much easier to spread the fire, as you don't have to start from the bonfire every time.
just wanted to add that also increasing the attument stat also increases spell casting spell.example being i have soul arrow with a cast of 30, i increased my attu up alittle and my casting increased to 32
In order to enter the dual wield stance you need 150% of the required stats of both weapons, it can be done with almost any two weapons but some are not compatible.
Man this game came out two days ago and it hasn't shipped to my house yet >///< ONE MORE DAY according to Amazon but omfg I might go hollow before then aaaaaaa
Don't know if anyone has said this but you have to be careful about trying to do the new kicking attack (forward + light attack) you can't do it in any other direction other than the one you are facing i.e. if your facing forward you can't just do the "kick" attack to the left or right of you you have to have your character face that direction first.
It's probably been mentioned, but I'll say it again because it's important. Being summoned with a white soapstone [size doesn't matter] (putting down your sign to help someone with a boss etc) and completing your task (living and helping until it says "task complete" and boots you back home) unhollows you. Free unhollowing, no limits, no health-reduction while you're helping. In summary, if you're willing to put in the ~3 minutes to help someone out, you get unhollowed, fully healed and spells recharged, token of fidelity, and all the souls you earn while doing so. (assuming you complete the objective and both you and the host survive)
Okay, here's what I'm wondering... Were you able to repair Rings of Sacrifice in Dark Souls?! No, right? That's why there were multiples of them scattered through the game, yeah? And yet, when I used the equivalent ring, the "Ring of Life Protection", to retrieve my souls from a boss I couldn't beat to go repair my equipment, when I went to do so, I had the option of repairing the ring!
Dual wielding in power stance is available to you if you have 1.5x the required stats for both the weapons you want to dual wield. You can also dual wield weapon in separate weapon classes. I've been able to dual wield a dagger and katana, 2 katanas, a curved sword and a rapier and a rapier and katana.
Noy sure if someone else has mentioned it but, holding circle (or B) while going down a ladder will produce the sliding animation from dark souls for as long as you hold it.
There is something I noticed that, if true, people need to know about Vaati. It looks like you no longer get a 50% boost to strength when two handing a weapon, meaning that you will need the base requisite amount to wield it at all. Also they seem to have brought back the ability to use the weapons move set, even if Strength or Dex is lacking, allowing players to know their move sets before investing stats into using it. It's something I noticed in footage, but please test and confirm deny.
+John Hatvik yes but u can increase ONLY int OR faith and ur fire (in ur case pyromancy) damage will go up at a good rate where as dark damage doesn't go up at a good rate unless u upgrade int AND faith. That's not to say that upgrading your int AND faith won't give you even more fire damage than just upgrading either faith or int.
another tip is once you get to SoA (4th bonfire) ur hollowing gets reversed if u pray at the shrine, for free, unlimited times. u just need to help release the girl in the cell in CoD.
I'm probably too late to provide this but... Some walls hide items or paths. To open these said walls, you'll have to press the interact button in front of them. It won't have a clear giveaway that it's an illusory wall. An example of one is within the room of the 3 sentinels boss fight. There's 3 illusory walls in there. I'm sure there's messages along the floor saying so
If you are summoned while hollow and complete an area boss as a phantom, when you return to your own world your humanity is restored. This is really useful for preserving your effigies.
About power stance (if somebody still watching this video): 1. You need to have 1.5 more stats, than your weapon requires 2. You can enter power stance not only if u holding same weapon types (you can powerstance with sword and dagger, halberd and twinblade, etc)
4:45 - Haha, if only it remained that way. Even with PS3 HDM set to Full and the lowest brightness setting set in game torches are still not needed for 99% of the game now.
I forgot I had the guide, I didn't plan on using it until NG+ but it has some mechanic info. Anyways, I can confirm that to dual wield weapons you need 1.5x the STR and DEX stats to do so. Faith and INT are not needed, just the str and dex reqs.
zeubersandvitch I don't think so, you can just join the Company of Champions to make most creeps spawn indefinitely. I think the devs just wanted to make it easier on people who keep dying on the same area. xD
the dual wield stance is called power stanceing and you need stats that are at least 150% of the the required stats for the weapons you want to power stance also to slide down ladders hold the evade/sprint button
VC12x Actually i have pre-ordered Dark souls 2 for PC... I just wanna play the first magical days when nobody knows whats going on, that cannot be played when people know the min/max builds AKA week after release, so yea, sucks PC gets the port later :P
VC12x Even if all the "PC only" players would do their best not to spoil it, the console owners will come to get some easy low Sl kills with their knowledge of the game. Also, DS2 is like breaking bad finale, the spoilers are impossible to dodge.
What the fuck...I have over 500 hours in Dark Souls, was one of the people who played it the first day it came out on ps3 and PC...but I always held O while sliding down ladders cause i thought just pressing O would make my character jump right off...well at least looks like "death by ladder" will never be a problem for me! xD
A mechanic I hadn't seen mentioned is the new 'soul memory' feature. Im not sure of the exact numbers but how it works is thus: every soul you get in the game is remembered in one big number. If you wish to engage in any kind of multiplayer (PVP or COOP) then not only does your soul level need to be within 10 lvls, but your souls memory needs to be within about a hundred thousand souls. Also, new sunbro's have both of those restrictions lessened. One more thing. The small white soapstone is not useless. Shades dont last as long, but the level and memory restrictions are less for summoning. Also, you are given smooth and silky stones, instead of tokens of fidelity. Shades also can be summoned in areas the bosses was already beaten. Last bit of advice. DO NOT CONSUME SMOOTH AND SILKY STONES! Save them. All of them. The new crows, dubbed smooth and silky, love that shit. Give it to them to get great rewards. Titanite, weapons, and if your lucky a ring that makes you look like a white phantom. Also, when trading items with the crows you no longer have to quit and re-enter. Just drop it and get it. Hope this is useful!
Yo Vaati, If you want to dual wield in "power stance", there's 2 things you need to remember: 1) For the most part, you need the use the same weapon type - curved swords seem to only work with other curved swords - but there are exceptions. I've used a bandits dagger and shortsword in power stance before, as long as the 2nd requirement is fulfilled. 2) In order to PS, your stats need to not only be sufficient to properly wield one handed both of the weapons you're using, but you need to have 1.5x the number of strength and/or dex. So to dual wield the scimitar, which i believe has 10 str and 16 dex, you'd need 15 str and 22 dex to dual wield two properly, as long as the other weapon has equal or lower requirements.
Yiulias I've waited for other games before, man. But dark souls isn't other games. I want to be mad but they're taking the time to really do their second pc release justice. Other developers should take note.
We didn't all play this game back when the video was made, so their advice is helpful to people like me who are watching this video, and playing the game, for the first time now.
if you use a torch or a weapon enchanted with fire you will be able to burn the black something-filled holes in the black gutter. This can be very useful cause it will damage any npc that steps on it. Also in no-man's wharf if you have a torch you will make those spider monsters back off and be able to kill them one by one. Although if you lock them into a corner after a while they get mad and attack you even with higher damage . And be careful using torches in this area cause there are many barrells (or enemies throwing them at you) filled with oil which will make you explode as soon as you light your torch.
Vaati, power stance dual wielding requires 1.5x stat requirements for both weapons ex shortsword, requires 10str and 10dex (just a placeholder, not for correctness) then to power stance with 2 shortswords, you need 15 str and 15 dex
It's actually Irritating that they Removed Resistance in the Game when they could've balanced it with some Major Tweaking. Also this is why I love and hate Dark Souls. I love it because the Game is Good, and not just any kind of Good, but Good because It is Really Good, and it Deserves the Praise. I could sing its Praises in Pages, Hell even a Video might not be enough. But why I hate Dark Souls is also because of a lot of reasons, and for this one, I'd have to say the Tank Playstyle. They just didn't give enough Viability for Players who don't mind Playing like a Moving Fortress, Terribly Slow, but capable of Taking hits while thinking of a way to adapt in a Situation. In Dark Souls GameFAQs Forums, they always talking about Fastrolls and Ninjaflippers and they rarely look at Tanks. At this Point, I feel as if Dark Souls is a little bit Similar to Devil May Cry, where it is only for Players who likes rolling about. Tank Players just didn't get enough Appreciation, nor Viability. Sure they can Tank some Damage in NG, but in NG+? They die almost as Fast as a Naked person, and not just that. Stamina Penalties when Putting Heavy Armors also included, as if they are not Underpowered Already! In Dark Souls 2 I hear that Now Heavy Armor requires Strength and that's a Great thing since it's a Very Realistic Method to Balance between Light and Heavy Armors. But when it comes down to it, since they removed Resistance (hence, the scaling too) I began to question if they made Heavy Armors really worth Pumping Strength into. I really do hope that In the Future, FROM took a look for this Comment. This is a Comment of a -Casul- N00b who became a Fan of the Series. - JSP -
Yes, but according to This Video, the Part that was Kept is only the Resistance towards Bleed and Poison. It doesn't mention anything about Physical Defenses and such. At first The Idea of Resistance Scaling with Armor is Great because finally Resistance become a Viable Stats, but now it just... didn't get enough Appreciation.
Ok, so I just did some research - it looks like (and I could be wrong) things like physical res and elmental res have been added to other stats - I think physical is added to either endurance or vitality but I'm not sure about the elemental ones. I could be wrong about this, but that's what it looked like when I was fiddling while leveling up
OMFG YOU CAN SPRINT UP LADD............... Wel............. Already beat the game...... Shit..... All the time i spent climbing up those bastards.... hahhaa
Being able to do lunging attacks with certain shields which are especially good for staggering enemies. Pretty much all of the new ambidextrous/dual wielding mechanics.
Well, I have DS 2 SOTFS, and I've had a 4-day boss run. 1st day: Skeleton Lords 2nd day: Covetous Demon and Mytha. 3rd day: Smelter Demon 4th day: Executioner's Chariot.
Wow, game looks great. It sucks though, I have to wait for the PC port to be released, and avoid as much game play as i can. I feel bad that i watched this but i just had to. Man, i have to wait over a month to play this :( What happened to the Master Race.
Jamie Ellis lol right...Anyways, it's not like i have another option. I would only get it on a console if i had a Playstation. Which i don't, so i have to wait for PC version.
You can open doors faster - the doors that open into a room can be fast opened - as the door starts to open do a roll forward and and the door will snap open and you can roll through it quicker. - this works on small doors not sure on the larger ones you have to push. Also when you press to enter the fog you can cancel then entering animation up to the point where you move through the fog or a cut scene would play - simply move back away from the fog - useful to know if you just realise your entering a boss fight with only half health.. Not much of a tip - but better than nothing.
vaati, i appreciate all of your videos, but i want my first playthrough to be completly full with any experiences, and "aha!" moments i cant get. So i will not watch a single video of DkS2 until i played it! Just saying, and i think i am not the only one.
***** is read your comment and got spoiled.. EVERY DETAIL about DkS 2 IS A SPOILERT, rather its just a mechanic, environment, enemy types, charakters, class system OR WHAT EVER. EVERYTHING. Thats my point. The Thumbnail itself is a spoiler.... there was never a sunset with water and stuff before. SO STAHP Q.Q
nomercy8989 Tell me, what resolution do you believe the game is running on? its 1024x720. Put that res on PC version of any game today with no anti-aliasing and you'll see jagged lines everywhere, making the game look pretty bad. Also, not to mention the lag i get in a lot of areas that don't have much going on. I'm not saying consoles are worse than PC, i'm just saying that the consoles its on are TOO OLD to be running any games nowadays as well as a PC can. I personally can't wait for drainleic (Anyone else found the ring that tells you what drainleic used to be called? it's interesting lore. XD) to look gorgeous on PC in 1080p, and maybe even mod support!
Someone probably already pointed this out, but iirc: To power wield, the calculation is 1.5X the required stats to power wield it. Ie. if you have two swords that each require 10str/10dex you need 15str/15dex to dual wield them with power stance. Also the Estus flask caps out at 12 charges @ +5 Finally mimics...If it's wooden and has a large clasp, or metal and has two small silver clasps, then it's a mimic.
figured out the dual wield. whatever the requirements are for the weapons, its 1.5x that to be able to dual wield stance with said weapons. for ex: falcon needs 9 strength and 13 dex, so to stance withe 2 falcons, you would need 15 str and 20 dex. hope this helps!
Is it just me or have invaders become very rare. After 20 hours of playing i only been invaded once while in the first DS i got invaded at the very moment i turned human or at least soon after.
its because everyone is exploring and playing, more invasions should happen in the coming weeks, and make sure ur human you will get more and it also depends if you are in a highly trafficd area i believe
Matt S Yeah your right ive been invaded a couple of times yesterday evening. I was so glad i got invaded because not getting invaded at all did seem to ruin it a little for me. Its frustrating but awesome at the same time.
So, what the hell is up with the lighting? This looks nothing like the early footage/beta... it has that ugly spherical light like the old Souls games.... why?
Here's a tip for newcomers to spell use in DS2: The damage of your spells comes from the DAMAGE DISPLAYED /ON/ THE CATALYST. Why all caps for that part? Because I didn't figure this out for the longest time due to a lack of MagAdjust stat. It's a lot simpler than it might seem. For simplicity's sake, I'll give an example. A basic chime might give you... say, 120 lightning damage total, whereas another gives you 150. YES, this is the damage inflicted by bonking an enemy with the chime, but it also directly translates into spell-power, so the 150 would do more damage with offensive miracles. The weapon determines nearly everything.
*forgets about lockstones* *

Dude thank tou so much for this comment.
Here's an important one: enemies stop spawning if you kill them too many times.
elmohead I think they stopped spawning because you died too many times
If you kill the same enemy too many times they stop respawning because of Soul Memory so people with similar soul memory are matched online and you can't just kill enemies over and over to gain a large soul memory
Joining the covenant of Champions allows them to respawn infinitely, and burning an ascetic also respawns them, but both of these methods also make them stronger.
no when u kill them alot they disappear, i did it with old knight trying to farm him
UN-Capital That's actually Better
Illusury walls is probably the biggest change, instead of hitting or rolling through them you have to walk forward and press X. I literally found this out two days ago.

Hurr durr
yeah, one of the many things that didn't need to change. It's the same button you use to read comments so if the comment is next to an illusory wall you sometimes read the message instead. Annoying enough in DS1 when there were messages next to levers.
Arya Timothy ik you thought x on the 360 XD
MonsterTeegs Holy fuck, that's why I can NEVER find any .. Thanks
Can't believe you didn't mention that you can crunch more than one soul at once. This is by far the best time saving addition to this game.

My god. So long, and I thought Adaptability only influenced dodge speed. But all animations? Wow.
I thought it was like resistance in DS1. God fucking damnit...

The life stones ironically get you killed faster. Fucking 3 second delay. Like really?
not adaptability, agility, which is affected by both adaptability and attunement raise agility (though adaptability raises it faster)
the item use speed increases at 95 and 100 agility (i had looked it up on the wiki after i told my friend)
That ladder bit seems like From Software trolling veteran players.
I dig it.
4:44 "On a final note I'm going to tell you the mechanic for my new favorite thing in the game which is *TORTURES* "
You forget something. Dark Souls 2 now has BADASS CAPES!!!!

Interesting ...
+Caleb TC They have to have the same attack style, like thrust or slash.
Caleb TC huh. Haven't tested it firsthand so I'll refer to your opinion
In case you're still wondering: darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Power+Stance
It gets a little complicated when you consider every aspect of it and exceptions to prescribed 'rules' but for general understanding, it explains everything you'd need to know.
TehSinWithin they become stronger in return man, do it too often and you'll be facing enemies way above the level you can handle.
TehSinWithin bonfire ascetics dont come very often, its like burning a rare item to farm another rare item lol
If you think about it. This mechanic also adds a level cap in a way to keep players from becoming too OP and having a literal walkthrough
Ring of life protection breaks and can be repaired for 3000 souls at blacksmith preventing you from losing humanity and souls. good deal i think
It's a good deal if u are carrying more than 3k souls or u are human and carrying more than 1.5k souls
you forgot to mention the creepy invisible guys whose shadow can be seen only if you are using a torch. waaaaay too creepy.
The fact that something completely invisible was watching me and I never realized is kinda creepy.
@οὐτόπος Παντού συχνάζουν όμως νομίζω περισσότερο στο undead crypt
I only have found 2 of the invisible guys. 1 of them is in the forrest of giants next to a torch above the 2 guys that throw bombs down at you where all those barrels of oil are. The other one is in 1 of the 4 cells right before that one primal bonfire boss that enjoys sitting in the dark. Remember to light that room up before the boss fight.
The fact you now have to hit A to open secret doors is frustrating and made me lose items/secrets
Fantastic starting guide!
Great work!
I love your videos
also you CAN slide down ladders if you hold sprint and down.
"more complex features at the end" *mentions torches at the end* :D
Maybe you should also tell people how standing in water or getting wet by Rain reduces your Lightning resistance and increases your Fire Resistance.
Also, Adaptability increases I-Frames (invincibility) when rolling or doing other Animations
I've just noticed a slight change when I do increase it
I don't know if it was already like this in DS1 so pardon me if everyone already knew it, but I just discovered: The darker the area you're in is, your auto-aim will target only near foes.
Dual wielding requires 1.5x the stats to power stance
Lol I never knew how to access Power Stance Mode! xD
DONT HIT CHESTS!
GhostGhosterson People are dumb. If you haven’t noticed. Hence why EA titles sell even though most of them are utter garbage.
Felipe Filps there is no chain in 2 i think u mean 1 nd 3
@@felipemiguel9907 I notice it more with the iron mimics, if the locks are bright its a mimic, if its the same as the rest of the chest its safe.
Probably the one downside to playing on PC, you get a bunch of games later than consoles smh
Note: Powerstance takes 1.5 X ST AND DEX. INT and FTH do not need to be 1.5X of stat requirements.
To power stance you need 150% of evey stat there for example if you need 10 strength to wild you need 15 to power stance (sorry abiut my english)
Regarding torches: The game teaches you that you can light sconces with your torch, to permanently light an area. What it does _not_ tell you, and I only noticed later, is that you can ignite your torch at any sconce you have previously lit. This makes it much easier to spread the fire, as you don't have to start from the bonfire every time.
just wanted to add that also increasing the attument stat also increases spell casting spell.example being i have soul arrow with a cast of 30, i increased my attu up alittle and my casting increased to 32
In order to enter the dual wield stance you need 150% of the required stats of both weapons, it can be done with almost any two weapons but some are not compatible.
you forgot about the fact that they changed the jumping button from dark souls 1 :}
Man this game came out two days ago and it hasn't shipped to my house yet >///< ONE MORE DAY according to Amazon but omfg I might go hollow before then aaaaaaa
SchwaAkari have you gotten the game yet?
EdgyGrandma have you?
@@moi4820 i dont think he did
Don't know if anyone has said this but you have to be careful about trying to do the new kicking attack (forward + light attack) you can't do it in any other direction other than the one you are facing i.e. if your facing forward you can't just do the "kick" attack to the left or right of you you have to have your character face that direction first.
That ladder tip is going to save a lot of lifes.
Watching videos without spoiling the game for myself is nice. It makes my waiting until PC release easier.
4:48 cant believe you said that unironically
If you HOLD the sprint button while going down a ladder, you slide. The jump off option's basically there to let you do falling attacks off a ladder.
It's something I noticed in footage, but please test and confirm deny.
fire damage increases with int OR faith. Dark damage increases with Int AND faith...
It is the opposite , fire dmg scale on both dark only on the lowerest
another tip is once you get to SoA (4th bonfire) ur hollowing gets reversed if u pray at the shrine, for free, unlimited times. u just need to help release the girl in the cell in CoD.
I believe that only works when you have no more effigies on your character or in the item box, but I may be wrong.
What is SoA?
AkariLT The Shrine of Amana, it's a mid to late game area.
this only works if you have no human effigies in your inventory/item box/ dropped on the floor.
So we get to Sons Of Anarchy and free the girl in the cell in Call Of Duty
XD
Actually, if you tap R1 immediately after a parry, you perform a guard break riposte which does the same damage as an "on the ground" riposte.
Soul memory?
And determines who you invade/co-op with.
Sub Sandwich *or lost by dying before retrieving your lost souls.
the illusory wall mechanic?
Press A (Or X) against the wall
I'm probably too late to provide this but... Some walls hide items or paths. To open these said walls, you'll have to press the interact button in front of them. It won't have a clear giveaway that it's an illusory wall. An example of one is within the room of the 3 sentinels boss fight. There's 3 illusory walls in there. I'm sure there's messages along the floor saying so
and here I am breaking my sword against them 6 years later.
If you are summoned while hollow and complete an area boss as a phantom, when you return to your own world your humanity is restored. This is really useful for preserving your effigies.
About power stance (if somebody still watching this video):
1. You need to have 1.5 more stats, than your weapon requires
He he he I am not gonna tell my friend about the ladder part >:)
I forgot I had the guide, I didn't plan on using it until NG+ but it has some mechanic info.
Anyways, I can confirm that to dual wield weapons you need 1.5x the STR and DEX stats to do so. Faith and INT are not needed, just the str and dex reqs.
I lost 2 duels and even died once to the guard break critical but never knew how it was done. Thanks for clearing that up.
Ugh, waiting for the PC release is torture.
what about the 15 kill permakill?
Brandon Wallace isnt that the games way of making sure ppl wont grind in the same place the entire time?
zeubersandvitch I don't think so, you can just join the Company of Champions to make most creeps spawn indefinitely. I think the devs just wanted to make it easier on people who keep dying on the same area. xD
Brandon Wallace I thought's it just 5 to 10?
Seven years late but OMFG I died so many times from accidently/intuitively jumping off ladders.
the dual wield stance
is called power stanceing
and you need stats that are at least 150% of the the required stats for the weapons you want to power stance
also to slide down ladders hold the evade/sprint button
So Pyromancy flame scales with both faith and intelligence? Nice that's a way better mechanic than it had in DkS1.
4:14 Ring of steel protection +1?

Puddimans I have nothing but my PC... gotta wait... I hope that the PC community will not spoil itself and have the day 1 blow.
VC12x Even if all the "PC only" players would do their best not to spoil it, the console owners will come to get some easy low Sl kills with their knowledge of the game.
Also, DS2 is like breaking bad finale, the spoilers are impossible to dodge.
You can actually slide down the ladder if you hold down the O button and the down directional button
Learned all this in-game, wish i would have seen this before i started. Really well explained.
What the fuck...I have over 500 hours in Dark Souls, was one of the people who played it the first day it came out on ps3 and PC...but I always held O while sliding down ladders cause i thought just pressing O would make my character jump right off...well at least looks like "death by ladder" will never be a problem for me! xD
WOAHWOAHWOAHWOAH
Old Dragonslayer soul?
Implications, HO!
Yo Vaati,
If you want to dual wield in "power stance", there's 2 things you need to remember:
1) For the most part, you need the use the same weapon type - curved swords seem to only work with other curved swords - but there are exceptions.
So to dual wield the scimitar, which i believe has 10 str and 16 dex, you'd need 15 str and 22 dex to dual wield two properly, as long as the other weapon has equal or lower requirements.
april 25.. april 25.. april 25.. ;_;
I feel you brother.
Yiulias I've waited for other games before, man. But dark souls isn't other games. I want to be mad but they're taking the time to really do their second pc release justice. Other developers should take note.
May 25.. may 25.. may 25.. ;_;
i think its funny how people are directing stuff in this video when its 2 years old
yea man me too
how about 5?
Vaati, power stance dual wielding requires 1.5x stat requirements for both weapons
ex
shortsword, requires 10str and 10dex (just a placeholder, not for correctness)
then to power stance with 2 shortswords, you need 15 str and 15 dex

They didn't get rid of resistance... it's part of the adaptability stat
I could be wrong about this, but that's what it looked like when I was fiddling while leveling up
Not sure about Physical but according to the Beta, Elemental Resistance are gained by Raising Int or Fth.
Yeah, it looks like that... would be interesting trying to make an elemental tank... might be something I try out in the future
1st day: Skeleton Lords
2nd day: Covetous Demon and Mytha.
3rd day: Smelter Demon
4th day: Executioner's Chariot.
Wow, game looks great. It sucks though, I have to wait for the PC port to be released, and avoid as much game play as i can. I feel bad that i watched this but i just had to. Man, i have to wait over a month to play this :( What happened to the Master Race.
They're a bunch of stuck up twats :)
^accurate as fuck
Jose Angulo Thank you :P
I just don't see why people can't just play games and enjoy them, regardless of platform...
Jamie Ellis lol right...Anyways, it's not like i have another option. I would only get it on a console if i had a Playstation. Which i don't, so i have to wait for PC version.
NO I WILL NOT TAKE THIS SPOILERS, I WILL LEARN DYING, see you in april.
Not much of a tip - but better than nothing.
i honestly didn't have much of a problem going through most of the game completely hollowed, it's quite nice not having to worry about curse. :)
vaati, i appreciate all of your videos, but i want my first playthrough to be completly full with any experiences, and "aha!" moments i cant get. So i will not watch a single video of DkS2 until i played it!
Just saying, and i think i am not the only one.
Same here, it sucks because I like his videos so much. Oh well, can always watch them later.
***** Going into a video with Dark Souls 2 in the title is like going into a packed bar expecting not to see people drinking. :)
Xzile40 I think he was just politely letting one of his usual channels know that he won't be watching his DS2 videos yet.
how the fuck am I suposed to avoid info till april 25th?...
Right?
what's April 25th?
Patrick Morgan pc(so called lead platform) release date
Patrick Morgan The PC release of Dark Souls 2.
nomercy8989 Tell me, what resolution do you believe the game is running on? its 1024x720.
Also the Estus flask caps out at 12 charges @ +5
Finally mimics...If it's wooden and has a large clasp, or metal and has two small silver clasps, then it's a mimic.
figured out the dual wield. whatever the requirements are for the weapons, its 1.5x that to be able to dual wield stance with said weapons. for ex: falcon needs 9 strength and 13 dex, so to stance withe 2 falcons, you would need 15 str and 20 dex. hope this helps!
When would you ever actually need a torch in Dark Souls 2?
DGneoseeker1 i found them pretty helpfull when in the spider lair. and against the duke's dear freja. spiders are afraid of light.
*****
I had no idea. Damn.
DGneoseeker1 The Gutter, Poison Mist in Harvest Valley, Shrine of Amana, Old Chasm of Dark. The torch REALLY helped in the last two areas.
+Un1234l telling people to light torches in shrine of amana isnt exactly a good idea, especially for n00bs or casuls
TheFreeViper
Yeah, I realised my mistake since the posting of that. God damn, that area is balls. Bullshit level of unfairness, level-design-wise.
1.5 months to wait :(
Ring of steel protection +1?
Looks like you can upgrade rings, Is that right? Or does the +1 just mean one was added to your inventory?
wow seeing this old video, when not even Vaati knew much about the game..brig back some memories
Is it just me or have invaders become very rare. After 20 hours of playing i only been invaded once while in the first DS i got invaded at the very moment i turned human or at least soon after.
Think about it for five minutes. lol. How many people are playing right now, vs how many people will play at release.
TARRON STEWART It's been released on consoles. Just not PC genius.
TARRON STEWART Dumbest answer i ever read on youtube!
Either you didnt read the question or you're a idiot!!!
its because everyone is exploring and playing, more invasions should happen in the coming weeks, and make sure ur human you will get more and it also depends if you are in a highly trafficd area i believe
Matt S Yeah your right ive been invaded a couple of times yesterday evening.
I was so glad i got invaded because not getting invaded at all did seem to ruin it a little for me. Its frustrating but awesome at the same time.
So, what the hell is up with the lighting? This looks nothing like the early footage/beta... it has that ugly spherical light like the old Souls games.... why?
I wouldn't say I'm playing it for the graphics, but it bothers me that something that was advertised actually isn't in the final product.
Dual weilding requires 1.5 times the initial stats of the weapon and you can dual weild any combination of two weapons with the appropriate stats.
Here's a tip for newcomers to spell use in DS2:
The damage of your spells comes from the DAMAGE DISPLAYED /ON/ THE CATALYST.
The weapon determines nearly everything.
it took me half the game to realize I could run and jump ;-;
How do u jump
+Terrianne Etta While running, push down on the analog stick to jump.
That's why developpers put tutorial in for not so smart people , but if you even skip tutorial then jesus you need some help
