I'm 61, I have discovered opera with Madama Butterfly more than 40 years ago and it always makes me crying like a baby. I've just seen last sunday Butterfly in Monaco, exactly the same staging than in this video, but a different production, with a stunning young soprano, Alexandra Marcillier in a last minute replacement of Alexandra Kurzac, it was awesome.
Cio-Cio-San farewells to her son and death is probably the most heartbreaking scene of all operas in the world. This is so unfear. Maestro Puccini, why did you mistreat so much this poor little Butterfly who was just pure and sincere love, each time I cry like a child. But I can't stop listening to this opera, and this for more than 40 years.
Wow! Love this live version we can actually listen to the beautiful voice of Ermonela it sounds much better here that in recording of Royal Opera House, Thank you very much! Now I can really appreciate her! :) Loved it !
It's knowing the back story and tragic ending that makes every performance so moving. We know Butterfly was being used, have been shunned by her family and culture for choosing a foreigner. We know Pinkerton is a cad and used Butterfly for a play toy and have no intentions of being an honorable man. We know Pinkerton was at heart a racist because he couldn't marry an Asian but will marry a "proper" white woman. We know that Butterfly bore him a son and will surrender him to he cared fir by Kate, while she will save her family's shame by committing seppuku. We know all this from the beginning. It makes it even more tragic.
I have seen her Butterfly at the met and her singing was beautiful. Unfortunately the rest of the production was not at the same level. That might have been 2 years ago or something like that.
That is most likely the worst Butterfly I’ve ever heard. She has no clue when it comes to singing that beautiful aria. It should be motherly, filled with love and sorrow, while conveying her hope that he will be better off with his father and that he will remember his mother with love. There is none of that in her voice. She is just screeching it out, with no concept of phrasing and coloring. Really poor interpretation.
Stunning voice and amazing actress I'm a 60 year old man and I don't mind admitting she made me cry like a baby love her

The most tragic wrenching scene ever written in operatic history
Lovely voice, so nostalgic, yet beautiful. Magnificent operatic soprano.💖🌻🌹

We already knew this but thanks.
Sublime !
Heartbreakingly emotional
Ermonela Jaho is Sensational!
Dear Mr. Gelb
and she's not singing this at the Met because...
Because this is European opera not to be sung in second rate theatres
Because her voice is far too small to sing this role at the Met
I have seen her Butterfly at the met and her singing was beautiful. Unfortunately the rest of the production was not at the same level. That might have been 2 years ago or something like that.
Great performance!

La principal soprano sería María Callas .

she has a perfect voice for puccini...
m c Because she got emotional impact on us listeners. It ain’t big or solid but nevertheless convincing.
Incomparable Voz, Extraordinaria Ermonela
Impresionante
Të rehaton shpirtin kjo artiste

Tadinho do menino….vai ficar traumatizado 😅
Brincadeira. Brava !!!
Hey, who's peeling onions here?
Não é possível transmitir a ópera completa. Ficava muito grata
Brava
Too strong to be a Butterfly

Bella voce ma perche' cosi piu veloce i tempi???????
Why are people clapping at her death?
Meh

Great voice - absolutely horrible harmonics from the stage and terrible recording quality.

vocally very mediocre if not bad.
