This is a pretty good overview of transport in Brisbane.
Unfortunately it's quite out of date now, especially now that smart ticketing has been brought in. Also the city hopper is now using a different kind of boat, and there's a new free bus route. I have been planning on doing an updated version of this video, but I'm waiting for the new 50c fare trial to start, and also for the metro to start operating. Otherwise the video I make will need updating in just a few months!

I think Brisbane Transport would have had the first entirely accessible bus fleet in Australia when it withdrew the last high floor buses in 2015. I think there was a growing demand for that in the years leading up to that. Given how steep much of Brisbane is, you can't really go long distances in a mobility scooter, so public transport is quite an essential requirement for people in a mobility scooter in Brisbane. People requiring one in other cities, such as Perth, Adelaide and Canberra, would be able to do quite some mileage in one on a fine day and not even have to worry about paying a fare.

Try the tram museum at Ferny Grove. I'd give it a go considering the great history of them and how they were initially the main way of transport in Brisbane.

Some other things worth touching on. Seniors Cards - I am mid 60s and between that and the offpeak fares, I can go anyone for about half the price of a coffee. Then there is offpeak. Then there is the "great circle " - two large loops in opposite directions stopping at up to 10 or so major shopping centres (you can on and off it) and it's about 3 hour end to end - an interesting way to see lots of the "burbs". Oh, and once you do a certain of fares on a go card in a week, the rest of the week is free...
With the seniors card, weekends are free on buses and ferries as well. There is pressure for the railways to do the same rather than half price.

Great video! Is there a transport application? One where you can put the route and it tells you what your transport options are?
The official app is the Translink one, but I find Moovit is much better. It's more user-friendly and also has realtime updates. Both are free.

What I've always wondered is why Brisbane City Council have never erected shade 'sails' or similar across Victoria Bridge for pedestrians...it's so super exposed to ALL elements and with Qld being the skin cancer capital... not to mention protection from summer storms.... winter weather etc etc ...

If you get a Go-Card at the airport, there is a option to get from the airport to the city for under $5 (off peak $3.29)
I've never heard that, and couldn't find anything online that confirms it. Do you have a link?
@@BrisbaneChannel You can get a Go_card at the arrival hall (International terminal) then go to the bus stop at level 4. From there, take the Skygate loop bus service (it's free) to the Skygate shopping mall. Then you take bus 590 (don't forget to check in and out from then on) to Toombul shopping mall. Cross the street for a short walk (150m) to Toombul train station and you're on your way to the city centre for under $5. On my way back to the airport, I took bus 590 from Cannon Hill to Skygate shopping mall (peak $4.03) and the Skygate loop service to the airport. -Skygate loop timetable skygate.com.au/sites/default/files/2018-01/Brisbane-Airport-Skygate-Loop-Timetable-July2017.pdf

How to effectively explore Brisbane... hop on the over 350 bus routes the Brisbane City Council operates, and see where it takes you lol. Or, if one have a lot of time on their hands, catch the 598 and 599 to go on a massive adventurous loop around the suburbs 😂🙃

Best way to get around Brisbane. Find the next exit out of the place and just keep going. Brisbane would have to be the most unfriendly place I've ever been to.

Thanks so much! Very helpful information. Using a foldable bike, like 3sixty/brompton to commute in Brisbane is safe? Is it allowed to bring it on bus/train?
Safety for cyclists is vastly different in different areas, depending on things like the presence/absence of physically separated bike lanes and the level of traffic.
As for taking a foldable bike on public transport, on the Translink website they say "If your folding bike can be carried in a bag no bigger than 90cm x 70cm x 36cm, you can travel on any service". ( translink.com.au/travel-with-us/cycling-and-walking )
Thats a wonderful information about public transport. And how about weekends? Can we have frequent transport services on weekends too??
To be honest, public transport isn't great on weekends. On some train lines you may even have to wait up to an hour for a train from certain stops. Hi Adam, I'll be moving to Brisbane soon and your videos are super informative and really well put together. I was hoping I could get some advice RE logistics of getting to work in CBD. Some days I would ideally like to drive from south to as close to CBD as possible that has free parking and then bus or scoot to CBD (maybe at or near Park Road Station between Woolongabba and Dutton Park?). I'm finding it difficult to figure out where there is free parking though. Do train stations/park&ride facilities cost? I don't think they do. On the BCC website (can I share links?) it reads as if all of the street parking in Brisbane is charged (ie 'Zone three: rest of Brisbane'). Surely that's not right? I expect to pay in CBD and even fringe, but surely not all of Brisbane streets!? I'm expecting park & rides will be pretty full so it would be good to know if surrounding streets (outside CBD and fringe) are free to park. Thanks!
There are parts of Brisbane you can park for free on the street, but one thing to be careful is parking time limits. Pretty much anything from Fairfield Station inward falls in the Dutton Park Parking Control area (www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1JmVLwdaYDw_B6aHh5NWpnGVHEwI&hl=en&ll=-27.506748876916507%2C153.0484830332184&z=15), where you can park for free on the street, but could be fined if you park longer than 2 hours. Park Road Station is a good bus/train interchange, so there's both buses and trains into the city from there, but the Park n Ride carpark is so tiny that you're highly unlikely to actually get a park there in the morning, and it can be hard in the afternoon, but more likely. Park n Ride carparks are free, but they can have limited spaces. Your best bet may be to park the Park n Ride at Yeronga Station and train in from there. I've never had trouble getting a spot there. I used to park a block from Fairfield station (just outside the Dutton Park Parking Control Area) and take the train from there. The Park n Ride next to the athletics centre in Nathan is a big one with plenty of spaces, and the buses from there run along the busway pretty much all the way once you get onto it about 1km from the stop, so if you're that far south, that's a good option.
To be honest, I don't know of any places that are practical to park and then scoot in, but it might be worth asking on the Brisbane sub on Reddit.

Are streets directly north or even east of the Dutton Park Parking Control area are presumably the same in regards to parking fees or 2 hour limits? Is there a website that shows all parking control areas?
I presume it varies and generally gets more restrictive as you get closer to the CBD (like a couple blocks north of Park Road Station, which is outside the Dutton Parking Control area).
That's a shame to hear that some Park n Rides are usually full, but great to hear of some of your suggestions from past experience.
Parking a block from Fairfield Station and getting the train to Southbank and then scooting might be a good idea.
My initial idea with Park Road Station and then scooting I thought looked promising as it's near the bike path adjoining the M3, but yeah it sounds like parking there is not going to be feasible unfortunately.
I will be coming from a long way south but spending a couple nights in Manly while in Brisbane, so ideally parking the car somewhere near the M3 or perhaps Coorparoo Park n Ride (135 spots is quite good) on my first and last day (of a total of three days in Brisbane).
Working out the logistics is actually kind of tricky! I've never worked in a city!

Yes. But there may be paid (and signposted) parking in any of those areas, just that it's not a blanket parking limit, so the residential streets will usually be unlimited and free.

Instead of the go card, is it possible to use a digital wallet? Like here in Singapore I use Samsung pay to pay for buses and trains.
Unfortunately not. They are looking at working it into an NFC compatible app, so we can just use our phones. But it's not reality yet, sadly.

Pro tip: If you use public transport on the weekends, use a child card to get on free (I lived in Caloundra for until 2020)
Until you're unlucky and do it on a day Translink are checking tickets (unless you actually ARE a child, in which case it's all good)!

As a Brisbane resident of over 50 years public transport has been the bane of my existence. It's getting better but there are many shortfalls. Out in the burbs the transport gets a little less than adequate. The main vein of the city, the M1, has reasonable PT but many areas have nothing at all. Try getting to Algester from, say, Logan. Inevitably it means a trip into the city then to Algester for example. Don't mind me, I'm just having a moan
You're right, trying to rely on public transport can be a horrible experience. Funny you should mention getting to Algester, though, as that's where I live, and I can tell you that getting from Logan wouldn't require going via the city. You'd probably be able to go via Garden City or Grand Plaza depending on which part of Logan you're trying to get there from. Still, it wouldn't be either quick or convenient.
Which suburbs have the most frequent trains? And do they fit strollers/pram ok?
I give some tips for finding suburbs with the most trains in this video (spoiler alert: look for interchange stations that are served by multiple lines): czcams.com/video/QUEIICtESO4/video.html Ultimately, the more lines you can take to and from where you're going, the more frequent the services you can take.
Strollers and prams would not be an issue at any station, but be aware that some stations are only accessible by stairs, which can be quite inconvenient if you have a stroller or pram, and impossible if you're in a wheelchair. So you should look at station plans to see if they have stairs/ramps/or elevators. You can do that on this page: www.queenslandrail.com.au/Customers/Stations%20and%20Maps/Pages/AllStations.aspx Just put in the station name and it will show a map including accessible entries/ramps etc. I used to live in Annerley by Fairfield Station, and was shocked to find that the only way to get to the citybound platform was by taking a long staircase. Anyone in a wheelchair would not be able to take a train to the city from there. Thankfully, that station is currently being refurbished and made more accessible, but I'm not sure how many other stations there are like that one.

@@cannyyeohmanly1579 You don't 'buy' it, technically. You pay a deposit which you can get back by returning the card. The deposit is the same amount wherever you get it, so you might as well get one as soon as you arrive.

Hey, mate. How can I go from Brisbane International Airport to Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast? What would you suggest?
Hi Filipe. There is a train that runs all the way from the BNE International terminal to the Gold Coast which will get you most of the way. Then you'd take a bus or light rail for the rest of the trip into Surfers Paradise. Two possible routes would be getting off at Nerang Station and taking the 740 bus (this is the fastest option at around 2 hours 49 min), or taking the train to Helensvale and taking the light rail the rest of the way. Either way, you should get yourself a Go Card first (right at the station at the airport), as the trip will be cheaper that way. Going the Nerang way will cost you $34.38 with a Go Card, and $40.90 if you just buy a paper ticket (assuming it's during peak time).

It's cheaper with GoCard, but still expensive. I can't remember off the top of my head how much, but they list the prices on the Translink website, which a quick Google should bring up.

I agree that the Air-train is overpriced, its because it is own by a private operator, not like all of the other lines.

BNE lens It’s the way the contract between the Qld Government and Brisbane Airport Corporation. Basically the airport own the branch line and all the stations on it. The Government (and by-extension QR) provide the train and timetable. But because they are not on the translink network there are access fees on top of the fair. Also concessions don’t apply on the AirTrain. Additionally because of the arrangement. Other modes of public transport (like the buses) are not allowed to operate to the airport. With the exception of the 590 between Garden City and Toombul.
@@BrisbaneChannel since then I’ve found a sneaky way around this, get the bus to Skygate, and then there is a free bus to both of the terminals! A much better way there even if it is a bit more annoying

should have dabble more on the other form of transport namely 100s busses are south/300s north, busway ect, 598&599 going around, ipswich line to rail museum, ferny grove line to tram museum, gold coast line ect. A critical place to go when "ANYONE" comes to Brisbane is the 471 bus to Mt Coot-tha
