      The two-party system forces so many people to vote for the lesser evil, and I really do believe that we have to play the game since it’s often times unavoidable that voting for your first choice will result in the people with completely opposite opinions winning. There’s a reason we only have two major parties, while Europe is full of smaller parties that represent a plurality of opinions. But considering the two ruling parties dominate politics because of the election system, they will never change it, especially when the party most open to the idea (Liberal) refused to change it even when it was an election promise

    I voted liberal party back in 2015, for a couple of changes they were running on. One of the important ones was electoral reform and getting away from first past the post to mixed member proportional or ranked ballot... anything but FPTP.
    Then when they won a majority government with just less than 40% of the popular vote, they spent money researching other voting systems and just kind of tabled the whole thing... failing to keep that promise clearly had /nothing/ to do with them winning a majority they wouldn't win with a more fair voting system, right?
    I haven't even looked at when the next election is scheduled for, or what all the parties are saying they'll do at the moment, guess I should get on that -- not like anyone holds them to keep their promises anyways though.

      Quick rundown of the parties and what they wanna do at the moment:
      Liberals - Return Canada back to the corona period where we had to wear masks and the economy was even more horrible, further increase carbon tax to take even more from the people so they can take more vacations.
      Conservatives - Attempt to lower the cost of living while still keeping mass immigration policy so they don't insult immigrant voters. (Won't work as mass immigration is the core reason for high cost of living)
      NDP - Grasping for any sort of support from their voters after selling their soul to the liberal party. Actively working against the workers they claim to be working for, only caring for the desk job federal workers rather than the ones working the mines and the power plants.
      Green - Wanting to return Canada to a tribalistic state again like always, but this time with an American leader insulting hard working Canadians at the same time by comparing them to "scum that rises up in the pot"
      PPC - Wanting to bring back freedom to the people and lower taxes and cost of living without being afraid to lower immigration quotas to manageable levels around 100k a year (Similar to US immigration numbers by population size)

    For our friends south of the border, here's a quick and dirty summary of the Canadian political parties:
    The Progressive Conservative Party. Pretty much like American Republicans. They tend to be fiscally frugal when it comes to social welfare, and routinely prioritize military spending and industry. Their scandals are usually themed around intolerance or deceiving voters about their agenda (sound familiar?). They like balancing the proverbial checkbooks and successful Conservative adminitrations usually finish their terms with the government having a surplus ready to deal with problems.
    The Liberal Party. Like American Democrats, our liberals prioritize social welfare programs and public spending projects. Their scandals tend to be around corruption and (especially under Trudeau Jr) financial mismanagement. Reckless spending is very much a double-edged sword, but despite that, there's an argument to be made that more Canadians would have died during the Pandemic had the Conservatives been in power instead of the Liberals.
    The New Democratic Party. While never getting a Prime Minister into office, only recently managing to become the main Opposition, the NDP are focused on workers and citizens rights and are heavily backed by the remaining workers unions.
    The Green Party. Hardcore Environmentalists. They barely qualify at the national level, and really only have power at the provincial and municiple levels in British Columbia. They seek environmental reforms at all costs to get Canada back on track to the Kyoto accords emission goals. Their plans are detailed for all to see and would likely cost the country a significant hit to the economy to implement their proposals (even if it would be for the greater good).
    The Bloc Quebecois. Seperatists. They want Quebec to become an independent state from the rest of Canada. Fuck that.

    • @robrib2682
      @robrib2682 Před 5 měsíci +2

      As someone who has studied history, something tells me that those bloc probably have a fair few of their ideas around isolationism and I've never really understood why Quebec has that mentality that seems to always get portrayed every so often of they just want nothing to do with the world. Because when you go isolationist whether you want to or not the world is going to come back with a big stick.
      Again this is from an American who has had his country wave the stick a few times and had someone wave the stick at us at least once (pearl harbor), so take this with a grain of salt.

    • @TrilliumGrandiflorum480
      @TrilliumGrandiflorum480 Před 5 měsíci

      Comparing the conservative party to the republicans is such a stretch that you might pull a muscle doing it. I'd say they're more of a balance between the two major American political parties. We don't really have a party that is a genuine comparison to their republican party.
      The cons aren't really pro gun, they're gun-neutral, they won't take the guns away but they also won't give them back. They are also in favour for mass immigration and would never even consider the idea of deporting illegal immigrants because it would be bad for their image. These are two major things that separate them from the republican party in the USA.
      Really the closest thing to the republican party in Canada is the PPC, but even then it would be better to compare them to the American libertarian party as that's more accurate.

    • @tommybelanger92
      @tommybelanger92 Před 5 měsíci +2
