After a long a productive musical life, Toots Thielemans has just offered his life to eternity. Let's feel awe and gratitude for this great musician, who has given the world so many wonderful tunes who play directly to the heart.
This is a terrific performance! Both songs are remarkable, because The One Note Samba is the greatest Bossa Nova Samba Jazz Song Of All Time PERIOD, and Bluesette is The Greatest Jazz Song Of All Time PERIOD!!!!!
It's Danish Singer Birgit Lystager! She's fabulous and 72 years old now. Love her!

Yes, he is TOOTS, the famous and excellent harmonica player for ever ... and ... guitar player, too ... when he was young. His whistle ... the same quality.

Our hearts, your's and mine feel deeply at the losses of authentic artists (not the ones today who grab their crotches for recognition), of true talent and genius, such as is here in moving pictures, which stands as proof of there being no recording tricks, no lip synching; only true, high art, which plainly lives in this performance. And THAT's rare today!!!.. "Bluesette" by Toots is the all time greatest jazz waltz in the world and decorated with he playing the greatest harmonica solos ever, to boot ! !

Beautiful!!! I was stunned today to run across this video - Toots Thielemans and Birgit Listaer (sp?), two artists that are solid and confident in their talent, and expert performers. I listened - and again, and again! One thing no one seemed to notice right off was the expert whistling that was, I believe, Toots Thielemans. He is just tremendous!
Mr. Jobim's works sound wonderful no matter who performs them!

How many musicians change the course of jazz? Toots was one of the greatest "ever". He created the harmonica as a jazz instrument - nobody had ever done that before. I got to seem him before he passed the Blue Note in NYC - one of the greatest concerts I ever got to hear.
I saw him in trio in a big pub here in Brussels in 1975...great session

I love the helmet hair!
Judging from the glimpse in one shot of Toot's hair in the back, I'll take her helmet hair any day. It was pretty good camera work. Kind of like music progams produced at OU back in the 70's. If you know what I mean.
Toots could whistle and play guitar very well but he was the king of chromatic harmonica jazz/pop!
