I strongly agree with the lyrics to this song: it resonates with my life in the day, especially when cousin Lawrence Shelton, Jr. & Sr. waved goodbye 👋 as they journeyed back to Champaign, IL, Monday morning, July 18, 1977: Pat Moody spun it that day (a lady, Brandi L. Atkins also debuted)!!

The symbolisms used in the song are really powerful. It's how we always put on a happy face whenever we miss opportunities in life. And although we try so hard, we sometimes get disappointed or failed still. It means we have to put on a brave face in life. After all life is a stage and we are all actors in it.

When you put the most destructive and deceptive kind of advice to lyric. Has it occurred to you that real people who have real life honest experiences exist outside your box and you sound to those people like a liar and a fake? This must be what Kurt Cobain was referring to in heart shaped box.

@@OwnMySunrise Yes, she is one of the great voices. I had seen her in concert many years ago. She sang at the Academy Awards in the early 1980s. She was a back-up singer for Bette Midler, The Harlettes, in the early 1970s and released her first album in 1973 at the age of 22 and is still making music at age 71. Hers is not the only famous version of "Don't Cry Out Loud", but the most famous, released in 1978 when she was 27 years old. She has been featured on many television shows and specials.

The song is written from Peter's view on how his mother kept herself strong for them.

It was beginning a run to the top 10 and would eventually assume a place in history as a timeless and powerful American pop song. It wasn't introduced in the show as anything special, because such songs were simply what charted then.
...and then I look at the songs in the charts today :(

Over the years, I've traveled the world (with him), learned latin dance, l took up piano, learned a new language, cultivated a garden, skating, baking , ... I have and am living for two. I used to love this song about 40 years ago when they played it over and over on the radio. Looking back today, I can see this as a really dysfunctional song. It's telling people to bottle up their feelings and to be emotionally constipated. Repression is not healthy.... 😅😅

Though the song was a huge hit, soon to become a cult classic, Carol Bayer isn’t exactly keen on the lyrics she penned about hiding feelings and putting on a brave face. In her autobiography, she explains : “For years after, when I would hear [‘Don’t Cry Out Loud’], I would question if that was how I really felt. I mean, didn’t I believe in sharing my feelings? Letting people know how I really feel?”
Well, Miss Bayer, thank you so much for those enlightening words. Many of us were wondering WHY…, weren’t we⁉️ 💜🎼💚
