As a youth, my cardiologist told me he didn't want me building muscle and putting strain on my heart. Instead, I was supposed to do cardio to strengthen it. Now that I'm through all my prime muscle building years, I'm now learning how important it is to build muscle.
I’m 51 years old and spent a year and a half getting to a 405 deadlift, 375 squat, 295 bench and 165 strict press. I added running 5km’s under 30 mins to round it all out and my next goal is 12 Guinness in a single evening. Always focus on self improvement!!! It’s the journey, not the destination!
I can drink12 Guiness in a single evening although...I never do anymore
I am a doctor and I ❤ur show...working on my strength training journey
I am a Dietitian in the Northern Territory of Australia. I see mothers feeding babies full sugar coke in baby bottles... children with diabetes at the age if 8yrs old. This is predominantly in the indigenous population but does spread accross the low socio-economic populations.
Your podcasts have helped me to reach some of these populations using the terminology and explanations you provide. Thank you for your consistent new content that is scientifically backed. You truly do bring an insightful perspective to diet, fitness and longevity.
im a doctor too. im the best doctor
I have constantly over estimated how much muscle I have and underestimated how fat Iam. In some recent pictures of a day at the beach I was shocked at how bad I looked, I knew I was heavy, but I felt pretty good that day, but definitely didn’t look the way I felt. So after listening to mindpump and bio Layne , I have awoken out of the diet industry matrix and now I am making real progress. Cal in vs cal out, protein goals, full body workouts 3x a week. In 3 months Iam down 10 pounds and have learned how to track macros and weigh myself every morning and take the average lbs lost for that week My new hack is if I eat out ,I just count it as 1000 Cals even though I know it’s not but that gives me a safe idea of how much more I can spend out of my 2000 cal budget. Good things are happening 🙏🏾
careful with this. Most restraunt dishes are over 1k cal believe it or not. Now if u order something that seems healthy on the menu then count it as 1k your probably safe. But ive seen simple chicken dishes at applebees that are 1500 kcal
@@blairsmith9849 😦thank you. 👍🏾
@@blairsmith9849 thank you. I also just found my vitamins are 45 calories so I have definitely been over consistently. I don’t eat out much but every day Iam getting these vitamins. 😂 well now I will start accounting for them.
1000 percent agree about doctors being informed about strength training. I was telling someone about this the other day.
Last year I had a doctor tell me that I needed to lose weight to get my colon removed. He gave me 0 information on diet and exercise other than low carb. Even with a follow-up visit with a different doctor, after my surgery was postponed, the doctor said the same thing.
In my personal experience with medical professionals, their level of information concerning "being fit" remains at the level where the general consensus arrived on such topics when they were medical students.
My father was thin as a stick. He was a bricklayer for 35 years. Hard manual labor. You can consider his work as being workouts. 8 hour workouts! He had excellent muscle mass even in his older years.
He lived to be 91 years young!
I'm thin like my father and I wouldn't change that for nothing. At 63 l'm active as ever!
Cheers
I love this podcast, I’m currently in school studying nutrition and dietetics but to be honest they don’t teach you all the things I’ve learned from you guys. I’ve always had a passion for weightlifting but I would always get misleading advice or was eating to lose, etc. but you’ve guys have helped me a lot when cutting or bulking. Keep up the consistency guys, thank you 🙏🏽
Experience provides so much more than research you didn't control 😉
Today's intro seems to be made as a direct message to me; I've been underweight for too long and now I'm on recovery face by gaining weight and these days I've been feeling bad with image and my self. Listening the intro has open my eyes and realize the most important thing is to be healthy and be able to live your life with energy and happy!
Listening to mind pump on my commute back home is the best. Thanks for all the knowledge!
Great to hear I'm on track. Good info to share to get my friends on board
I always love seeing the notification of a new mind pump video🎉
Man I just wish you guys would release like once a week. Always want to catch every episode but dont get to finish most of them these days! By the time i get back to watch youve got a new video out. I cant be the only one going through this
I live in a dense suburban neighborhood and there are never, ever any kids playing on the block. Here in AZ, everyone stays in tiny backyards by the pool.
I love how you guys quote statistics frequently! I always find your show very informative. Thank you for the opportunity with the giveaway 💪🏻
💪🏿Ready for another great show!💪🏿
#4 is such a great question!!
Mind pump Let’s go 💪🏾💪🏾 Love you’re consistency
I wish I'd known all of this stuff 14 years ago when I started running. I would have spent many more hours strength training compared to the road trying to get leaner. Rather late than never I guess. 😅 Thanks for an amazing show. 🔥
I've never been more motivated to get strong and healthy! Thank you for so consistently putting out content that is both motivating and entertaining! Keep it up!
I’ve always been into fitness but I’ve only really been consistently lifting and following a lot of the things you guys talk about since August and I can’t even believe the changes I’ve made to my fitness. Thanks for the show guys 😊
Hey love the work you guys put out there, keep it coming our way 💪🏼
Another good one guys!! Thanks for all the free knowledge you give us! I❤
This is one of the beessst episodes!
Love all the content! Thanks for the laughs to make my commute more fun!
Love the content thanks guys!
Just finishing up Anabolic Advanced. Best program yet. Keep up the good work! Thanks guys
Great stuff guys, thank you 🙏
Love your podcasts! Thank you!
As always, great 😊episode! Great info!
Very interesting and informative discussion.
This is a great topic. I’m so happy to hear this because I love building muscle. I had a shoulder replacement on Monday. It’s 3 days later and I can’t believe how fast I’m recovering and almost pain free. It’s because of the muscle I’ve built in my arms. Build muscle so if you get an injury you can recover easier.
Mind Pump is gold for my mind, body, and soul!
Love the show
I don't ever want to be "fat," but I would definitely like to be stronger, and I understand your argument about the importance of muscle mass. 🦾 Another excellent episode!
❤❤❤❤ here for this
Y’all had me dying with the trashcan bike flip story. 😂😂😂
Your shows always show a different perspective in life and fitness. Appreciate you guys for sharing your knowledge and wisdom to everyone.
I’ve been soaking up your content! Thanks so much. I could definitely benefit from your programs. I plan to order as soon as I can!
@jennifergray4357 Winner! Please email: ann@mindpumpmedia.com with a screenshot of your youtube username, winning episode number, and the email address you would like the program under and we will get you hooked up!
I've lost 7-8 pounds just by lifting weights No Cardio. OMAD-ish/14/10 fast diet .... Thank you mindfreak 💪🔥
I know I’m not your usual demographic but I can’t tell you how much I needed this episode. I’ve been struggling with severe anorexia most of my life. I can’t believe how women glamorize this disease. I am completely disabled and will be lucky if I make it to 40 I i don’t turn it around. Even when I was only moderately underweight my health was so poor. This really gave me the boost I need too keep fueling, behaving, then lifting and growing. I had some healthy athletic years in my teen and would give anything to get a fraction of that back.
Please look into and research carnivore diet. I believe we have been taught so backwards and upside down by all the "proffessionals". Im on month 2 of carnivore diet. 4 weeks in i started squatting in the gym. I just hit 265 where before the diet i couldn't do my own bodyweight due to pain. Please look into it.
Since you guys mentioned cage fighters jumping around moments before the fight at the very end of the episode here, I have to mention the very recent Brian Ortega vs. Yair Rodriguez fight. Ortega actually landed bad from one of those jumps and tweaked his ankle. It was a rematch and many were very concerned because in the original fight he had lost due to injury and seeing him visibly grimace like that before the rematch even started just seemed, at the time, like the fight was cursed. Dude then goes on to win via marvelous comeback. Really inspiring story with Ortega in general, especially since Yair is no joke.
💪🏻 I like how you emphasise (once again) the importance of performance and growth, rather than running after shitty, demoralising cardio exercises. Both in terms of longevity and longtime motivation for your journey. Keep up the great work guys. 🙏🏻
Took weight loss out of my program and focused on strength. My body will adapt
Great show guys. I am very interested to hear how the doctors at the Dr Seeds event react to your talk. Keep up the great work!
These information r gold! My daily dose of goodness 🤩
Strong dad bod for the win 👏👏👏
That's why I like following yall programs, because they are well rounded programs. I have a lot of yall programs and they help to build a well rounded body
Listening to you guys on my way to work it’s just a pump mind.
I would soooo love to ✨win✨ the MAPS Split!!! I don’t have any of your programs yet and would love this one to start!! I learn so much from y’all everyday!! Thank you for everything you do!!
Which MAPS program should I buy I have a knee sprain Injury and an injury in my left shoulder?
Oh man. I'm 32 and I need to start focusing on mobility. After really heavy squats my left knee occasionally gives me issues.
My hip mobility is lacking and likely ankle issues.
Thanks for the podcasts as always!
Thank you all for pushing me to be better! After these podcast I feel like I've actually gained something from my time and that's huge these days
Just purchased MAPS Anabolic Advanced ! Let’s go 🤘🏽
I am loving your show and all the amazing information you share!! Even the hard to swallow truth bombs 💣
Loved the dad talk. ❤😂
Can I just win already. Tired of telling my story hahaha
Awesome jobs guys. You guys are awesome!
I had type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol taking multiple medications but through proper nutrition and strength training off all meds
Age 53 female here. Started getting serious building muscle about 7 months ago. Last couple months had terrible knee pain and muscle pain that was taking longer than expected to recover from in which I tried to manage by resting and just taking it a little easier, focusing on form and sleep. Someone mentioned to me that I could be dehydrated even though I drink water and to add electrolyte water to my day and within 2 days my knee pain went away. Is this possible?
If you were magnesium deficient that will slow muscle recovery and cartilage repair.
Under-muscled, not over-fat is such a paradigm shift. Makes sense why skinny folks still get diabetes and metabolic diseases. The root cause looks more like the lack of muscle leading to society’s 99 problems. Dr. Lyon FTW ❤ I pray this message gets out because so many folks still think “diabetes is irreversible” or try to “lose weight without exercise” or are not motivated to strength train. SO MANY PEOPLE STILL THINK THESE THINGS 😢😢😢😢 glad y’all are broadcasting these messages. Waves need to be made to help people.
Justin needs to watch the episode, were doing hard or difficult things are good for you, next time he puts out the trash it may be difficult but it might be safer. Sal if you are looking up older athletes, look up Cliff Young he won an ultra marathon in Australia in the 80s
Guys I appreciate all the knowledge and advice has help me out a lot keep up the good content 🦾
Great content guys, keep going, listening to you i have learned a lot. I have recently (about 3 months ago) started training with a power lifting and bodybuilding coach. Have to admit, I never thought i would achieve what i did in such a short time. Used to struggle lifting 30kg on flat chest bench, now i lift 65kg. I would say training heavy is the best training, i haven't lost to much weight, still struggling to get rid off the fat on my abdomen, but in other places i see a mssive improvement.
Love your podcast.
Ive got a question and wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.
Ive been training for years and was eating around 3000 calories whilst training with high intensity. I was struggling to both lose fat and build muscle. I had plateaued so i switched up my training and started working on strength in the 5 rep range. I also increased my calories to between 3500 and 4000.
My body responded perfectly, im building muscle and losing fat at the same time so delighted with that. However, im also feeling so lethargic and fatigued to the point im thinking i can't keep this going. So more calories and less volume is actually making me less active. I thought it was because my body was wanting to recover and now that it was getting more calories it was making me rest. That has been 4 weeks and I still feel lethargic and fatigued. I know its not laziness although it feels like it.
Interested to know if anyone has experienced this or has any thoughts. ❤
The concept of happy hour just blew Adam’s mind
I am bigest fan of Sal 😭🙏🏻❤
If you want to get strong ankles learn to skate on hockey skates. Once you can skate well, your ankles will be strong with super human balance plus you get great cardio too.
Just another way to get the ankle strength if you want an alternative to the great advice from MP.
I am definitely one of the undermuscled. Have diabetes now. Working hard to correct both.
This Justin story of pulling the trash cans down hill with the electric bike should’ve been an instagram vid….it would’ve been priceless 😭
I have CP and love learning from you guys this may be the missing key for me. I know new lifters should do compounds but if you are disabled and need to focus on your shoulders to prevent other issues is this ok to do or how would you couch a physically disabled person compared to others (nero-typipaclas)?
Can you do a video on training a physically on mindtely changed (neo diverest) people?
I don't understand the 3-5 pounds of muscle and takes care of a big mac a day... And I KNOW this is not an exact thing. But everything I read says one pound of muscle burns about 6 -10 calories a day at rest. So even 10 lbs of muscle is only burning 60-100 calories a day.
I need to show this episode to the ladies at the bar so they can see I'm healthier than the skinny dude they're talking to.
The coolest show on planet earth
after losing 25 pounds recently though diet alone (cutting ultra-processed foods and cooking from whole foods) i realized i felt weaker, it was a heck of a wakeup call. lol, got scared into lifting, i don't want to be old and frail.
Put my type 2 diabetes into full remission by embracing resistance training and diet and building muscle 🎉
I agree 100% with the thumbnail statement. Undermuscled 862,485% 😅
Today episode’s it’s me , im 5”4 and weight 72.6 Klg according to my Renpho scale I’m high muscke and 22 .8 % fat , which of your programs should I start with ? Maps .? 😅
I bought the anabolic and loved it. If you want to build muscle MAPS Anabolic works.
I'm not surprised. Dudes in strong man competition tend to be very healthy. And almost none have low body fat percentage
Boom
Always root for old guys ! :)
I want to win this. I need it!!!
So why does conventional medicine disdain anabolic drugs and promote cardio with catabolic diets?
20:10 my son is the same way he has no grace lol which is the complete opposite of me I have too much grace lol
I tried Seed Probiotics and they completely messed up my hormones. 😢 I felt horrible.
13:49 yes, because there's a change in the space, but that's still healthy user bias, meaning that's true for people who go to the gym, not a valid cross-section of the general population.
Guys, vaccines! The kids get a ridiculous number of jabs, starting from the early 90s
I never took it seriously until I saw the schedule and that the generations after mine gets at least 10x what we received. So many more chances for complications.
@@zerrodefex Me too!
Do Gabriel Lyon is the most knowledgeable on this subject.
Hey Adam, business idea. A Dave Ramsey target audience/topic related podcast, but in MindPump format. A lot of us basic people need your $ knowledge, but need to be entertained before potentially getting bored with the topic
Save me 😅
Rippetoe approves this message
Wrong Again Sal... Total Lean muscle stores 5x More glycogen than the liver.
Please 🙏 🙏 🙏
I can't believe you find the Brady and Bellicheck to Michigan conspiracy theory worth talking about. First it's Michigan not Michigan St. Second Brady forfeited his eligibility by playing pro football and most importantly Michigan already hired a coach back in January. You guys sound ridiculous bringing this up.....and I say this with love. 😅
Ive got alot of muscle now but im about 23 % fat still. If i got to 21% id be happy.
It's interesting to hear what you say about doctors as my doctor did some blood tests believing that they would come back with terrible results because of my weight. Well they proved that I'm in excellent health. Now I'm not saying that being overweight is healthy, by no means, but I go to the gym regularly and try to hit my protein target everyday. I think this is why the tests didn't show what he expected. Regardless, he put me on Rybelsus (a variation of Ozempic) and all I lost was 2kg in 3 months. It just wasn't for me. He really isn't happy that I would rather stick to gym and calorie tracking than take Rybelsus which is supposed to result in quicker weight loss but it has shown that a lot of people lose muscle mass while on it.
Ozempic and similar shortcuts may have horrible outcomes..lots of information out there..some medical conspiracy there..maybe as messed up as covid..hit the gym with intensity..just be super careful to avoid injury
He also doesn't get any kickbacks from you going to the gym.
@@zerrodefex hmm..
It’s Michigan not Michigan state.
What about Mo Farah? He's clearly underweight and under-muscled!! Yet he's a 4 time olympic gold medalist?..
There is one muscle of his that is exceptionally well exercised - his heart. His VO2 max will be superb and add in very little body fat and you have better overall health.
I just purchased a book on how to play chess for my 10 year old daughter, all this fortnite talk is just amazing to me.
54:30 I don’t think yall know how profitable courses are. A trader I follow (granted he’s one of the biggest) had 30k people in his course at one point and it was priced at 1,799. That’s 53 mil lol
Marathon runners are skinny right
1st!!!
The age cut off for an athlete might be higher. We will see when Mike Tyson (58) fights Jake Paul (27).
