  • Noise pollution is an invisible danger. It cannot be seen, but it is present nonetheless, both on land and under the sea. Noise pollution is considered to be any unwanted or disturbing sound that affects the health and well-being of humans and other organisms

Thanks Awula Serwah for the strong advocacy for the enforcement of the by-laws on the abatement of noise. The developed countries do not have or have fixed the noise menace. Why can’t we do the same as Ghanaians. We need all hands on deck.

Thanks for kind words. We need to encourage the relevant authorities to enforce the bye-laws.

Many thanks to Hewale for fighting against noise pollution in Accra and Ghana.
Where I live, it is forbidden to make noise between 10 pm and 7 am.
If you make noise between these hours, you can be sure that the police will come to warn you first. But the second time you can be sure that you will get a hefty fine.
It is a shame that the police in Accra and Ghana do not do much.
But this is beginning to change.
It is surprising that people in their 40s and 50s have heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure.
The cause is often due to lack of sleep because of the noise around them.
Spread the word to your friends

From dawn to dusk we are surrounded with noise. Continuous noise causes an increase in the cholesterol level resulting in permanent constriction of blood vessels, making one prone to heart attacks and strokes.
Noise does not only cause irritation or annoyance but also increases the flow of adrenaline and forces the heart to work faster.
Let’s all join Awula on this educative journey. Let’s create the awareness and make responsible bodies enforce the bye - laws.

I share your concerns and yes noise affects our health, not only our hearing important as it is. . Dr. Kyremanteng Amoah gave an excellent overview on how noise can affect our health.

Noise causes so much stress! There are hundreds of mosques in the Kanda/Nima area and ALL of them start making noise from as early as 3:30 in the morning! It's torture! We all worship God. Why should your worship jolt me out of my well deserved rest??

Hmmm we should ask the Police to enforce Section 296 (h) of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 Act 29. It clearly states that there should be no noise between 8PM and 6AM.

Noise population is a social menace, and it's health risks are underestimated.
Common health problem it causes is Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). Exposure to loud noise can also cause high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep disturbances, and stress. And the unfortunate part of it all is, these health problems can affect all age groups, especially children.
Imagine being hearing impaired because of noise from your own neighborhood.sigh!!

You are spot on. Please join us in spreading the word. If more people realised how harmful noise is, they would not tolerate it and would support persons campaigning against noise pollution. All of the best.
