  • Honda Civic Type R brake pad change. I cover the front and rear procedure as well as properly retracting the electronic parking brake. I used the Akebono Performance brake pads for the front and pro act for the rear. #brakechange #civictyper

    just did this job on my buddies car, there is a way without an obd2 device, i manually did it for the rear calipers, great video btw

    Great video! Good to see a someone as meticulous with a clean car as myself. Love my 2020 Type R and considering a brake pad with less brake dust too. Any follow up after a few hundred miles would be great!

    This was a great video. Super clear and simple with good angles too. I did my rears without the scanner, it was a terrible experience lol and I had replace a sensor.

      I did it without the scanner and worked out just fine just keep hand break off and do not turn on car PERIOD

    You can release the handbrake and disconnect the battery no need for obd scan tool right?

    Great content and binging lots of your uploads. Honorable mention to Carbotech pads as they are pricey but much better bite and less dusting than even the Akebonos. Lots of good info out there on them for your next change in a few years. Just a thought,

      My front Akebono’s are great but the rears are still dusting more than I would like.

      I'm looking at the carbotechs now. Just not sure if $430 is worth it. The hawk Hawk performance ceramics are like $180 right now front and rear.

      I got the NT530 but I had the purchase the license. This 510 should work. This one comes with the Honda license already pre installed. amzn.to/3xcDA4Y

      Yeah, you can reset or enable the parking brake after swapping out the pads
      Took I used is just a pin tool used for punching calipers pins for most brembo brakes

      Yes. It's required for electronic e-brake. I used a Foxwell

    What rotors do you have on them? I have 2019 and those look like you can resurface them

      These are probably stock rotors. The 2020 refresh uses different rotors from the 2017-2019 models.

    do you leave the obd2 scanner plugged in and on while you are doing the rear pads?

      I can’t recall if I left it on but it was plugged in. I want to be able to take the parking brake out of service mode.

      You want fog lights to activate with the high beam? I think the best way is have fog with high beam coding and turn on the fog lights as needed.

      No, those are the OEM rotors for the 2020+

    Do you have to remove the brake master cylinder cap while compressing the piston on the caliper?

      It’s not required but good practice. Since the pads have very little miles on them there was hardly any room to push back the pistons.

    did the same install and i’m having the very very annoying squeak on the rear pads not sure why. Maybe it’s because the oem pad had some sort of adhesive to the caliper and the akebono dont? please let me know if you had this issue

      I had the same issue. I had to buy new anti rattle clip in the rear. One of them got stretched out.

    Did you fluid fill nesr the top after you changed brakes?

      No need.
      Fluid doesn’t evaporate and since it’s a closed system the fluid from the pistons got pushed back into the reservoir

    Hello I am doing my first ever brake pad change. Mine are very used and grinding. Do I need the compression tool or can I use my hands like you did and pull?

      Compression tool is easier but you may be able to use your hands or carefully use a flat head screw driver covered with a towel so you don’t chip the paint on your caliper.

      @@eddiemcarshello just letting you know the job is finished much thanks to your easy to follow video. My buddy had to come and help me with the rear brakes, I used the scanner for the electric brake maintenance mode but the piston was way too tight for the new pads. So he brought a tool that squeezed the piston back into place! So far so good.
      I Do have a question though. Do I have to bleed the rear brakes now since we took the caliper off like in your video?

    Can’t you just unplug the actuator and use a piston push tool?

      That will MIGHT work but at risk of damaging the actuator. I’ve heard a few people doing it this way and ended up having to visit Honda for replacement after losing rear parking brake and having a bunch of malfunction lights in the dash

      No. It's a closed system for a brake pad swap. You should only bleed if you open the bleeder valve or replacing a brake line or caliper. Even if you open bleeder valve by accident because air is introduced in the system.

      I think it’s because of the VSA. It working in the background. Really not 100% sure. Had a Acura TL the ran through more rear brakes than fronts.
