Profound darkness phase 1 theme (Extended.. note this was a tough one to extend due to it seemingly not having a real loop like the original version in phantasy star 4) Ending? 13:50
I just started playing this game, and THIS GUY randomly showes up as a Boss Raid Alert. I am level 20 and the bosses have a difficulty level system. I got to fight the Profound Darkness.. and with another hunter... WE EFFIN WON AND IT FELT SO GOOD I have been following this music track since it first was released in Japan.. and to hear it in game... ALL MY YES! LETS GO!
Long time PSIV fan, seriously considering trying PSO2. All the while, nerding the hell out over this. This is what I imagine the original Ooze would have sounded like if Sega's plans to release it on a CD console panned out.
There's actually an official arranged album of the music from the original games that was produced in the early 90s and does not seem to be well known, but has some great stuff. There's a version of Ooze on it that has a decidedly different vibe from this one. You can listen to the album at czcams.com/users/PhantasyStarOST.
Nah the original sounded much more heavy, like an industrial heavy metal song. The first part of this rendition sounds good but when it gets to the main theme, I'd rather listen to the Genesis original because it sounds darker & evil. Considering that you're fighting the Profound Darkness.
I love all these extended mixes of PSO2 music. It really blows my mind how much detail went into some of this songs. Some of which can be a half an hour long o.o
Honestly I don't mind that it's not as good as the original, but I don't think that was even possible, as the original can't be topped imo. I'm just glad they brought any track back from the og series, and one of the best at that. And this remix totally fits the audial aesthetic of pso2
Remember to save your Megids... And now I'm upset that they nerfed that attack. For those not in the know, Megid and Megido were the two most powerful spells in the series. In the third game you only cast Megido in a cut scene but it's so powerful it vaporized an entire city, in the fourth game you only get Megid at the end and it's so powerful that it can one shot most non-boss level monsters and even some boss level monsters but even at max level you can only cast it something like five times. In the second game you get it at level 30 and again it's so powerful that it can one shot most of the bosses in the game and only the strongest monsters can take a single hit from it and still be standing. Animation was amazing too the whole screen goes red and everything explodes. Now it's just a slow moving black ball that does almost no damage and has a tiny chance to deal a bunch of damage to an enemy. Still pisses me off how badly they nerfed it, they should just make it really hard to get again rather than nuking what it does!
What you are looking for is Fomelgion, has as much punch, and can chew through most enemies easily, just that it requires both Fire and Dark Masteries to be maxed to get the most out of it as well as charging up a Technique meter to be able to use it (Must be set in Sub-Palette). It can't be spammed like you could in mainline PS series.
im working my way to the profound darkness i just beat Dark Falz Hunar in the ruins and his form after that.....i did some research and it seems i have long way to go as the profound darkness is episode 3 final boss. i wont give up ill keep going till i get to this fight!
+scaleofjudgment Don't just say "of course" so non-chalantly! You realize how long it's been since SEGA acknowledged any of the older Phantasy Star games? And they only decide to pay proper homage to PSIV NOW?
+AshramAstarcia IV is the only game with any reference to Profound Darkness. It is like expecting an One Winged Angel remix with every game featuring Sephiroth...Albeit not as frequent so the feel is pretty good and new.
scaleofjudgment Of all the comparisons you had to make, it had to be that loser Sephiroth? If you're going to make comparisons, at least have it be to Chaos from FF1, who (as far as I can tell) has yet to receive a proper MODERN arrange from his PS1 battle theme (his NES version simply used the regular battle theme, which he shared with literally EVERY fight in the game).
scaleofjudgment Oh my god... that's even worse. Just... how many people have not touched the original Final Fantasy? Because that's the one I was referring to. Not Dissidia Chaos, that shit actually makes it seem more like typical J-Pop Advent Children (which only exacerbated what I saw as overdone character/game worship). No, when I spoke of Chaos, I meant the original. The first final boss that Final Fantasy ever had.
God I miss classic Phantasy Star. Imagine if they put this amount of money, time, and skill into a normal Phantasy Star game. Y'know one that isn't an endless overwhelming grindfest filled with microtransactions T_T Naw instead the closest thing to a "new" Phantasy Star was shitty cheap flash game lookin "remakes" on the PS2 20 fucking years ago exclusive to Japan.
+FyreBlastkin PSO2 Tweaker. Look up how to make an account on the JP servers and use the tweaker. You can translate almost everything with that program. :)
+FyreBlastkin The game is quite addictive, and I wish there would be a western release! No seriously, sometimes the Tweaker misses files and the game will just crash during play. I'd make sure to update regularly though the game's launcher then go back to the Tweaker and install any english patches you want. Have fun!
Oh but according to comments around here, THAT"S JUST NOSTALGIA!!! I agree, it's not metal enough at all. THe original made The Profound Darkness sound like a demon invading in to your world. This just sounds like heroic rpg music where the heroes save the day from the demon. Everyone seems to forget just how dark & ominous PS2-4 were.
Wondering how many people like the original better....I think I'm one....lower quality...and yet I feel higher quality at the same time...it's weird. I don't find this terrible, but it's not as good as the version on the Sega Genesis.
Well, having never played the originals I can safely say that you guys have some pretty strong nostalgia goggles. PSO2 version of Ooze was one of the most hectic and tense songs I've ever heard while fighting a boss. The urgency and epic of the song is still there. In fact, if you took PSO2's Ooze and played it with an "16-bit" hardware you'd see the song is still the same, just cleaner and with less distortion.
The distortion is one of the things that made that song what it was. There is an energy about it that I just can't hear in this version, once it gets past the opening and into the faster beat it gets a bit hectic with the high techno stabs, but then just drops into standard j-pop/dance-esque video game fare. Perhaps you may be right about the instrumentation of the genisis chipset vs the modernized instruments. And if so, that says something about it.
Sage the Omnigeek the Genesis chipset is just fantastic. The sounds it made, and the music is put out was phenomenal. The modern instruments are okay, but they just don't give the same effect. The pulsing best of the original just gets the blood pumping for an epic confrontation. God Phantasy Star IV is a masterpiece.
Don't think of this song as a replacement, think of it as a 2nd cousin to the original. They have common roots and even share some traits, but otherwise are two totally different songs from two totally different places with two totally different upbringings.
OMG... Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought they would remix ANY PSIV track, this makes me happy. 'scuse me... *sniffle*
+AlcorZeta Yea heard the theme and my mind was officially blown. This is one of the many reasons I LOVE PSO.
Yeah!
+AlcorZeta I told someone a couple years ago that I wish they would remake this track. They thought I was crazy. Now look at em
I agree
+AlcorZeta are there any more psiv remixes in this soundtrack?
I just started playing this game, and THIS GUY randomly showes up as a Boss Raid Alert. I am level 20 and the bosses have a difficulty level system.

ALL MY YES! LETS GO!
Definitely a lot different from PSIV
Yet still pretty damn good and gets the idea of the song right.
It makes me so happy that some of Phantasy Star IV's themes got remade for PSO2
Also some from PSO and PSU
What are the others? Please tell me "Laughter" got remixed.
*screeches to a halt* Holy crap, they remixed this?! *turns on his genesis* New Game!
The final battle against the Profound Darkness has begun.
we are back to square one again, but this time we are struggling.
Now just give us Zio...and your GOLD!!
Or Lasheic
A remix of Laughter would be amazing.
OH ZIO! THE HOLY ONE!
Guess we're waiting on remake
@Filip Nikolic YES....we need Zio and Dark Wave...
the only thing left in PSO that is truly phantasy star
That's PSO2 not PSO.
@@ikagura same shit
@@varottodaniel Not at all. PSO is different from PSO2 (and PSU as well).
phantasy star 4 final form remix Yeah!!
Love this theme sooo much.
Long time PSIV fan, seriously considering trying PSO2. All the while, nerding the hell out over this. This is what I imagine the original Ooze would have sounded like if Sega's plans to release it on a CD console panned out.

Played this as a teen in the early 2000s good to see they brought this song back! I just wish it was nice and heavy but still cool
beautiful arrangement! the old one i will always love but this is well done
I love all these extended mixes of PSO2 music. It really blows my mind how much detail went into some of this songs. Some of which can be a half an hour long o.o
It's a nice remix of the final boss theme from PSIV.
It's a shame that the original series hasn't continued, but they wanted to end the story with IV.
Honestly I don't mind that it's not as good as the original, but I don't think that was even possible, as the original can't be topped imo. I'm just glad they brought any track back from the og series, and one of the best at that. And this remix totally fits the audial aesthetic of pso2

Bullcrap I was level 99 and could cast it 23 times
EP6 reboosts Megid as one of the more powerful Techs, thanks to Luminmechs having a Dark weakness
MEGIDO!!!
Best track of the Game.
I KNEW I heard an ooze remix on pso2, but I was too busy braver dashing away from dangerous dark falz attacks to be able to appreciate it XD
0:57 eargasm
Not gonna lie, I squeed when I heard this track.
holy shit this is epic sounding!
Awesome! It's great eher this music again. 😎👍
HELL YEAHH
2:06 Ok OK! This part won me over
it's Profound Disco
Anyone know a cut of the song where 57 to 1:20 is also included in the loop more than just once?
AWESOME, I hope this bodes well for Episode 4? Like more visual design elements, and maybe costumes in the style of Ps II and Ps IV.. I pray....
+ShadowArtist a Rune costume would kill alot of wallets ^^
Pedro Nicolau
I really want Rudy's(Chaz) outfit, re-colorable, so I can re-color it black....
+ShadowArtist Episode 4 has already been announced (since quite a while ago actually), but we don't have any clue as to what it will actually entail.
I know it has, I watched the Live Stream report that revealed it. I am just wishing that we will see some classic elements in Ep 4.
+ShadowArtist GOD YUS! GIB SUM PS CLASSIC OUTFITS, PRZ NAO
im working my way to the profound darkness i just beat Dark Falz Hunar in the ruins and his form after that.....i did some research and it seems i have long way to go as the profound darkness
is episode 3 final boss. i wont give up ill keep going till i get to this fight!
holy shit
i love 1:11 dunn dunn dunn dunn...
0:51 added for Most Replayed
They remix it from Phantasy Star IV of course.
+scaleofjudgment Don't just say "of course" so non-chalantly! You realize how long it's been since SEGA acknowledged any of the older Phantasy Star games? And they only decide to pay proper homage to PSIV NOW?

+AshramAstarcia I didn't want to allude to Dissidia because of some clash of stuff.
scaleofjudgment Oh my god... that's even worse. Just... how many people have not touched the original Final Fantasy? Because that's the one I was referring to.

Then Falz summons Rykros.
+Jamal Skidmore And your lone wolf run of this mission is put to an end.
Forgot to heal >:C
Fuck, THIS is in PSO2? I need to play this game now. Too bad there isn't a Western release.
+FyreBlastkin PSO2 Tweaker. Look up how to make an account on the JP servers and use the tweaker. You can translate almost everything with that program. :)
+OfficialTodayWePlay You're a saint and I love you.

FyreBlastkin You're very welcome! Hope you enjoy that game!
Star64DX Hey! You play on Ship 07, no?
Not metal enough!
Man, that theme would have been so properly revived in metal form.
Agreed
Oh but according to comments around here, THAT"S JUST NOSTALGIA!!! I agree, it's not metal enough at all. THe original made The Profound Darkness sound like a demon invading in to your world. I still prefer the Phantasy Star 4 "ooze"
+Matt Brine True. This is nice and lovely to see SEGA hasn't really forgotten the original games, but I find the original to be more at home.
Honestly both are fantastic as fuck and both are very fitting
nostalgia
Too bad it's nowhere near as good as the original :(
Yeah, they tried too hard with the orchestral instrumentation, softens it up too much. It doesn't have that foreboding or desperation of the original.

PSIV is better
Ew almost ruined the very essence of the song

nostalgia
What is the "very essence of the song"? Sounds very subjective
