- In this discussion about the mind-body relationship a questioner wants to know more about the connection between infinite consciousness, the finite mind and the body.
Rupert explains that there is no distinction between body and mind. Infinite consciousness localises itself as the finite mind. What we call the universe is what the activity of infinite consciousness looks like from a localised perspective. What we call the body is what the localised portion of itself looks like from the point of view of another localisation.
That's why when you close your eyes you don't experience yourself as a body - you experience yourself as a bundle of thinking sensing feeling and perceiving. But we experience you as a body. In other words, there is no relationship between the body and the mind because they are two phases of the same thing and there can only be a relationship between two things.
That is the consciousness only model.

One doesn't exist without the other. 'Mind' is one side of a coin and 'Body' is another. There is no relationship between them, however, they come and go together. 🙏

'Hogen, a Chinese Zen teacher, lived alone in a small temple in the country. One day four traveling monks appeared and asked if they might make a fire in his yard to warm themselves.
While they were building the fire, Hogen heard them arguing about subjectivity and objectivity. He joined them and said: "There is a big stone. Do you consider it to be inside or outside your mind?"
One of the monks replied: "From the Buddhist viewpoint everything is an objectification of mind, so I would say that the stone is inside my mind."
"Your head must feel very heavy," observed Hogen, "if you are carrying around a stone like that in your mind."'
I remember reading that one years ago. Maybe in Zen Flesh Zen Bones. Just because consciousness is experiencing the body through the senses doesn't mean it's not real still but just an aspect of it.
@@kelvinbel8910 That's what I would say too... I mean it's undeniable that the only way we can ever experience the stone, or the universe, is as an impression on our consciousness. But that doesn't mean the stone and the universe don't/couldn't also exist outside of our consciousness. We know the earth (and the universe) existed before human consciousness did, or our consciousness is for some reason trying to fool us into believing that? Since no conscious being ever saw a living dinosaur, does that mean living dinosaurs didn't exist? If so, why would consciousness be dreaming up all this extensive evidence that they did? Maybe I'm misunderstanding a key part of this philosophy.

Your physical world body is more like clothes offered to incarnate. There is a connection between the Spirit realm where pure consciousness dwells. These two realms are both connected and needed to advance to a level to leave this cycle. They are the ones that ask questions to advance back to the souls birth place.

To visualise this message conceptually, I visualise a circle (consciousness), then within the centre of the circle are vibrational waves (consciousness’ activity), then within the vibrational waves, are whirlpools (finite minds). Consciousness experiences it’s activity through its finite minds. How it experiences it’s activity is determined by the sense perceptions of each finite mind. We are all consciousness experiencing our activity through these finite minds. When the ‘body’ dies, we’ll either delocalise back to consciousness or we will continue to experience our activity as a finite mind. The vibrational waves could also be called God’s dream, maya, consciousness’ VR world, consciousness’ projection, consciousness’ manifest form/creation
With that perspective then could the perception screen be an electrical activity to represent the idea of the mind? Could matter be explained electrically?
I wonder if someone has created images/art based on this concept.

If we humans arrive here as a "container" holding a piece of consciousness and a mind within and controlling 5 physical senses on the exterior of the container, where is personality while here and what becomes of its uniqueness when the container is destroyed?

So when our body dies, what happens to our mind? Mind and body are aspects of the same energy, the former intrinsic and the latter extrinsic seen according to the viewer’s perspective. Then it must be that even though they are not separate and distinct, the mind is more than the body. On death , this core subjectivity continues while the body turns to dust.

And this body is also what takes you into the mental institution if you practice too much of not being this and not being that and identifying with supreme consciousness, which in fact is also an act of the ego as much as the observer is an ego state as much as identifying with "I am" and slowly loosing it, prepaving the way to the mental institution.

Mind is Open/"Empty" Space of which our bodies are visible spacial extensions or projections of the surrounding seeming emptiness. Mind=Space=Emptiness=Being.
The Body is the visible part of Being. Being is the non visible part of Body. The Body is the surface, we are the depth.
Modern research on Near Death Experience by Raymond moody, reincarnation memories by Ian Stevenson/Jim trucker and past lives regression by Brian Weiss all independently but coincidentally show that our consciousness survive death, we live many lives and our thoughts and actions matter in the hereafter.
So be kind and helpful to others, be virtuous, meditate and cultivate ourselves to higher spiritual levels. Cheers.

A person doesn't have a body that is distinct from their mind. That which we call body is that portion of the mind that is perceived by five senses.
The universe, as you know it, is what activity of infinite consciousness looks like from your localized perspective (finite mind-body). Infinite consciousness localizes itself as the finite mind-body, and it views unlocalized portion of itself as the universe, and other localized portions of itself as other finite mind-bodies.
what baffles me is how a belief in this conceptually complex system of inter-reactons can be seen to be in any way related to an understanding of non duality. Has anyone ever tried to see if this system of beliefs actually reflects personal experience or is the point here just to accept the ideas posited by another? Thanks

You’d have to ask the yogis who teleport. One was mentioned in the Autobiography of a Yogi. Bruce Goldberg is a hypnotherapist who wrote his experience in round trip teleporting from Long Island to Virginia Beach where he walked into the water. When he returned to his office in Long Island, his suit was even wet. He wrote the instructions on how to teleport but I found them quite vague.
I have entered another dimension, it happened in zero second, without being conscious of it, until after it happened.
In that dimension, my head got spinned around and around like a rollercoaster three times, and my body got torn in half two times.

Awareness can, mind can't. At least that's my experience. As mind and body are one as Rupert explains here, the mind when its healthy or sane will also result in a healthy body (not necessarily ) but when the mind has mental health issues like depression or addiction (which is the case on my personal level) the mind is very capable in destroying the body. I dare to say that the mind can never be trusted, so awareness and discernment are the only way (for me) to stay sane.
@innocenzz awareness is the mind ultimately isn't it. Because there really isn't matter and everything is one ultimate field of consciousness .
Could we therefore change what we once knew as matter and change that with belief and attention at ultimately the So called matter is really me/us .

@@121withtom3 It isn't, simply because one can be "aware" of the mind, it's thoughts. doubts, convictions etc. Indeed there isn't matter and that field of consciousness could also be seen as a screen. Matter is the stuff which appears on the screen, but the screen is only a projection. the screen itself holds nothing. Therefore there is no need to change what we once knew as matter, and beliefs are products of the mind therefore they won't help us with Truth. In fact there is no need for any-thing to change. One can only change the way he perceives to get it in line with Truth, but i said there is no "need" as one actually always perceives the ultimate reality, we only give our attention to the stuff on the screen which creates bondage or the illusion of separation, by returning the attention within we see reality as it is. That reality shows clearly that we aren't the "so called matter" and that it's merely a projection of the One infinite consciousness. so matter is Maya.
What we are is therefore unborn, eternal and infinite, which isn't dependent on the future nor medicine. Medicine therefore is only relative to that which appears on the screen of consciousness, while the consciousness itSelf stays untouched by a good or bad health. (otherwise it wouldn't be eternal :-) )

Hi I am a spiritual teacher so can answer your question ‘how does he know’. When we are meditators we regularly go beyond the mind, prior to the mind, and all the perceptions and we see reality clearly AS IT IS. Unobscured by mind. This is how spiritual teachers KNOW. It is from clear unobscured experience. They have not been taught or read anything in a textbook; but they HAVE had everything validated BY ancient spiritual and religious texts. And they HAVE been guided by people who are already Self Realised. But they have been led to discovering it for themselves in their own experience. They have not learnt and been taught this with their mind.

I disagree. There is a body without the mind. It is the perception of the body that does not exist without the mind. These are two distinct things, the body and the perception of the body from the mind. It like when you are watching an object, the perception of the image of the object exists in your mind, but when you close your eyes the object vanishes from your perception but it does not dissapear from reality, it is there when you open again your eyes.
What you are describing is STILL your perception of the object…our senses give us perception…without the senses there is nothingness…without the senses you return to the void which is the still silence you enter every time between falling asleep and dreaming…when your body expires you will have no perception of that body and it’s experiences, however, those left here in this matrix game will PERCEIVE your expired body that consciousness has left behind 🙏
You can perceive the body with your mind. This doesnt mean the body is mind. Saying "everything" is made out of atoms therefore everything is atoms is somehow correct but only true from a certain perspective.
