I found out when I was about 18 that my Dziadzia was an alchemist. He passed when I was about 4 from a heart attack, so I didn't get to know him. I've always been interested in the occult, and I think it stems from him. Thank you for sharing all this information!
OMG! I loved this. I have been interested in alchemy since I was a kid without even realizing it. As an avid HP fan since the release of the first book (a fan with a tattoo of the deathly hallows, representing the lesson and message of virtue within the story of the deathly hallows) and also as an avid science-lover with particular interests in chemistry and quantum theory/mechanics, I knew even the basis of the HP stories stemmed from actual truth and history of Flamel. As I’ve come into my spiritual journey much more only very recently, I’ve come to realize quite often that the ideas, goals, beliefs, virtues, and curiosities of both the occult and alchemy are one and the same with those I’ve arrived upon completely on my own over the last 10-15 years as I began to part ways with my Christian upbringing and really, truly begin to think for myself, from my very core, about what makes sense to ME and what I can whole-heartedly say I believe and stand for, and continue to seek out. (That may have been the longest sentence in the history of language 😂). I am a die-hard epistemophile, through and through. But two things have always RAVAGED my brain with intense and overwhelming curiosity and infinite desire to know and explore more: quantum mechanics and (all) alchemy. You are one of my favorite content creators recently since I discovered your channel a couple months ago, and I continue to turn to and appreciate your content and all of the information you so beautifully concoct into these videos, helping me on what feels like the most overwhelming and chaotic beginning(ish) of what is my spiritual path and journey today. I said ALLLLL of that to say: any content you choose to create and post regarding anything alchemical will absolutely be some of my very favorite and most cherished information resources/references used to guide me further down the vast number of endless rabbit holes of information that is my journey and practice development. I also cannot wait to begin delving deeper into Kim Krans’ Wild Unknown Alchemy deck that’s been sitting on my shelf for months just begging to be utilized to help myself and others. (I’ve begun to read the guide book and I’m already so in love with the deck before I’ve even gotten into each of the cards and their meanings/representations). I appreciate you and the time and energy you put into this content. I found your page when I reached a point while trying to begin practicing that I felt SO lost and overwhelmed and completely directionless. I didn’t know where, when, how, or what to start with, desperate for someone to just break some of it down for me enough to know where to START, in order to develop and create my own unique practices and styles. Not only does your content do just that, but your videos are seamless, articulate, and informative, all while being so easy to listen to. Once again, I love this video! I never really thought about alchemy until Benebell Wen put her latest tarot deck into eight orders. I wasn't hoping for any particular one, and I received alchemy. Then I couldn't imagine myself not having it. I started doing a lot of reading. I love the mental and spiritual aspect. AND YES, please do more videos on this. I also started reading a little book called On Alchemy by Brian Cotnoir, Denis Poisson reviewed it on his Foolish Fish channel. Theres even a Complete Idiots guide to Alchemy by Dennis William Hauck. Both are pretty good for starters. When you mentioned art alchemy something clicked in me. I'm an abstract surrealist and my work leans towards alchemy quite a bit. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I always look forward to them.

I mix my own oils and colognes to wear since my allergies prevents me from buying popular brand or store bought due to certain floral, or musk oils that trigger my migraine headaches or severe sinus. I never thought of my self as an alchemist until I saw this video. I have read or watch documentaries about the history alchemy. But to see in a more modern way of us in art. This blew my mind. Also thank you for the book recommendations too.

So, not sure if anyone mentioned this, but if you read fiction, “A Discovery of Witches” is the first of 3 books in which the main character is a witch who studies the history of alchemy. Great books if you haven’t already read them! Loved this super informative video, would love to see a series!!

excellent and thank you. i guessed it would be an hour long video, but i don't even know how you fit what you did into 20min, amazing work. you are a great writer. i was also waiting to hear about wood and metal, but i know you focused on western alchemy, so maybe in the next one? i really appreciated how you broke things down into their proper sections and explained them. while there are lots of physical alchemy videos out there, there are tons of new age videos that do spiritual and mental alchemy, but call it something else, like 'starseed awareness' or stuff like 'atlantis wisdom' or whatever. you really did a ton of research for this, so thank you so much again, peace......
I have to admit... I thought this video was going to be an hour long video as well. When I was writing the script, I kept getting "analysis paralysis" because the subject of alchemy is SO vast. I was finding it very difficult to even find the motivation to film this video because it was a lot of information to cover. So I decided to scale back a bit and give the highlights in some areas - then I can tackle each piece with other 20 minute videos. I still tried to keep it "deep" enough to cover all the important sub-categories, but then it doesn't seem too daunting to write a script and film the rest of the sections separately! And yes, I'd definitely be getting into the elements more (adding in wood and metal for a lot of Chinese alchemy) as well as the planetary associations for physical alchemy! 😊
@@IvyTheOccultist i'd say you found a great strategy for doing videos and staying sane!! you can prob extend this to a few more vids easily. -should you decide to tackle new age alchemy, Gigi Young would be an amazing interview. i think she created her own Planetary Religion. certainly has very interesting stories about Atlantis, Lemuria, dna blood magick, technology, ancient consciousness knowledge, angels, ensoulment, Mercury, Mars, & Venus, etc..... Occult Lux shares a plethora of audio books on Alchemy & Kabbalah. I find these FREE audio books from him to BE EXTREMELY Helpful since I find these texts difficult to read with My ADHD😬! Plus I can listen whilst I go about my mundane tasks😉🤙 He also includes GORGEOUS Artworks relating to whatever subject matter he's reading/discussing! Hopefully this different type of source will help since it's My BElief that we're all here to Help SHARE KNOWLEDGE🤗💜🖤💫

I would absolutely LOVE more videos on Alchemy from you! It's a topic I know little about, but it's something that has slowly been drawing me in over this last year, so this was perfect! I started my magical practice, and how I use it and view it...alchemy has definitely come up A LOT! I love the depth of the topic, and how it's rooted in science and its a focus on the individual and their role they have in their transformation. Absolutely love that!! Whenever I am struggling mentally (very much looking forward to hearing more on mental alchemy) I just repeat "transmute that shit" over and over till my mind accepts it and I work with it instead of against it. Curious if you ever heard or read any of Bruce Lipton's work? He talks all about how we can reprogram our subconscious to change and transform. You talking about mental alchemy reminded me of it.
Ivy, I am very interested in everything you talk about, but I *really, REALLY* am interested in more videos about alchemy (I just ordered both the books you mentioned in this video) and I would love the "more sciency" aspects as well. ❤ I apreciate your academic approach to witchcraft and the occult more than I can express. I would absolutely LOVE a series deep diving into the various aspects of alchemy. It's definitely not something that is talked about a lot in the witchy circles, and certainly not in such an approachable manner.
What a fantastic, concise, well-organized history and overview of alchemy in all of it's facets (exoteric, esoteric, physical, mental and spiritual). The books I had read were a bit too esoteric, so much appreciation for the research. The Alchemical Dragon caught my interest, but a series on alchemy where the dragon falls under a specific topic in the series would be great!
I’m interested in any videos on alchemy. I really became interested in it after reading the All Souls Trilogy (discovery of witches). The show didn’t do the books justice, because the e author goes into all kinds of details about alchemy which is the main driver of the story. The show mostly focused on the love story and species drama. Anyways, new subscriber, and I’m enjoying the content very much ❤

Loved this video because of the amount of research you've done. I just have one question: How accurate is our modern understanding of historical alchemy? I've seen historians and academics on the internet claim that the esoteric form of alchemy wasn't even a thing historically, but rather Carl Jung misinterpreted it or even "made it up". Most of these people, even though highly versed in history, don't really understand esotericism because they're not practitioners, so I take anything they say on these topics with a grain of salt.
Very very interesting and wide-ranging video! As you say, please do a book rec and I'd love to hear more about spiritual alchemy and if this is something you have explored in your own practice. I would absolutely LOVE more videos on Alchemy from you! It's a topic I know little about, but it's something that has slowly been drawing me in over this last year, so this was perfect! I started my magical practice, and how I use it and view it...alchemy has definitely come up A LOT! I love the depth of the topic, and how it's rooted in science and its a focus on the individual and their role they have in their transformation. Absolutely love that!! Whenever I am struggling mentally (very much looking forward to hearing more on mental alchemy) I just repeat "transmute that shit" over and over till my mind accepts it and I work with it instead of against it.
Curious if you ever heard or read any of Bruce Lipton's work? He talks all about how we can reprogram our subconscious to change and transform. You talking about mental alchemy reminded me of it.

What a fantastic, concise, well-organized history and overview of alchemy in all of it's facets (exoteric, esoteric, physical, mental and spiritual). The books I had read were a bit too esoteric, so much appreciation for the research. The Alchemical Dragon caught my interest, but a series on alchemy where the dragon falls under a specific topic in the series would be great!

I’m interested in any videos on alchemy. I really became interested in it after reading the All Souls Trilogy (discovery of witches). The show didn’t do the books justice, because the e author goes into all kinds of details about alchemy which is the main driver of the story. The show mostly focused on the love story and species drama. Anyways, new subscriber, and I’m enjoying the content very much ❤

Loved this video because of the amount of research you've done. I just have one question: How accurate is our modern understanding of historical alchemy?
I've seen historians and academics on the internet claim that the esoteric form of alchemy wasn't even a thing historically, but rather Carl Jung misinterpreted it or even "made it up". Most of these people, even though highly versed in history, don't really understand esotericism because they're not practitioners, so I take anything they say on these topics with a grain of salt.
