    I lost so many of my relatives in Sobibor with names of "Theodor Julich
    b. 1859. d. 1942, "Samuel Heumann" b 1858 d.1943, "Regina nee Jacbo
    Heumann" b. 1893 d. 1943, "Ruldolf Heumann" b 1893 d. 1943, "Samuel
    Heumann" b 1858 d. 1943, "Emma nee Kombert Schubach" b, 1885 (Mulheim)
    d. 1942, to name a few . May their memories be a blessing and never

      @@gergemall Thank you.. I have found more of my relatives who went to Sobibor. Most went to Auschwitz, some to Chelmno, Ravensbruck, Dachau, Bergen Belsen, Theresienstadt, Riga, Maly Trostenets and other subcamps

    I was born on October 14, 1943 in St Louis, MO. in a clean hospital with my father and older brother waiting. Sometimes you need a touchstone such as this video to remind yourself what the world was like when you got here.

      I clicked on this video as fast as a drunk man on a three day bender whose come home and regrets not doing the dishes before going out and needs educated noise to distract pickled head whilst scraping mould off of the leftover custard and jam from a rather successful trifle making session that impressed all who saw them at a very odd party that started all this.

    Thank you Dr. Felton! I've been with you since 10k subscribers and I'm going nowhere.
    My great grandmother's family disappeared in Poland at the end of 41' and as such, no more letters would be received from them here in the states. May the millions like them NEVER be forgotten.

    Dr. Mark Felton is a true Master at non-fictional 'storytelling.' With the intelligence, wit and lucidity this man brings to his fascinating subject, I am slave to every video he produces.     Mark, I'm very excited to listen to this series. Many years ago as a Teenager, we regularly attended a Church which had a weekly potluck where Missionaries and other interesting speakers from all over the world spoke regularly. The Pastor was one of those people who somehow knew people all over the world. One night Toivi Blatt spoke, and it really made an impression on me. I also bought and read one of his books about the escape. Thanks for reviewing this little known but important chapter of WWII history.

      @@billmers3219 It was a Baptist Church in WA State. Not sure exactly how he ended up speaking at the church that night, but the Pastor had been all over the world and had also been a Missionary in the Sudan for 17 years, I believe in the 1960/70s. He seemed to know people from everywhere.

      There is an 80s movie with the great Rutger Hauer as the Russian Lieutenant. Great movie. Don't know if the movie on Amazon is worth it. From my experience, remakes are usually never up to standards.

    Even though I know (because of my armature's interest in history) how this story goes, I can not get enough of Dr. Felton's story telling and ability to communicate history. One of the top, if not the top, historians on CZcams.

    Yeo Thomas (a British spy) said to his interrogator "I don't know anything and even if I did I wouldn't tell you " his treatment was brutal in the extreme including pliers on his genitals (you all can imagine that type of torture ) he is my hero of WW2 in a world of this type of brutality and I implore you to Google his defiance!     The story of the recently discovered Sobibor photo album is an interesting story. The photo album of the death camp was vergoten but survived because it's owner, the ss officer on the horse, got killed and his personal effects were bundled up and sent to his next of kin who stashed it away for 80 years.

      I remember that movie. The scene where the inmates are surging against the barbed wire, seeking to be free, brought tears to my eyes, symbolic not only for their desire, but for all people yearning to be free of oppression.

    I saw the film about sobibor, that to this day is the darkest film I've ever seen, but glad that history allowed the revolt to be successful.

      Terrible, frighful, horrifying might be more suitable descriptions. Imagine the horrible lives these prisoners had to endure and their desperation running across a minefield, under fire, to attempt to wrest back their freedom.

    I've seen a film about this which was very moving and inspiring in a way. My goodness, imagine the bravery of those people!! Imagine how it must have felt to finally fight back against the animals who had been their captors and tormentors.

    What is on the Sobibor site today? As a youngster, I had a neighbor whose father and brother perished there in WWII.

      These camps were demolished and attempts made to hide the murders. Too many had escaped to be successful.

      There’s zilch there, you see a few burial pits in the woods, an old wooden toilet by the church on the road, the small visitor centre museum. The buildings around the railway track where you see old pics with soldiers etc etc.
