I painted my 1/76 scale figures like a 1/35th scale figure and it looked incredible with the shading and amazing painted details while yes I spended a lot of time painting them I was still happy knowing they looked Great and that was all that mattered.

These look great! I did an Alpine tank commander figure last year for a battle of the bulge Sherman dio. I also ordered some alpine German panzer crew for a jagdpanther diorama I'm working on. Im planning on painting them with ak 3rd gen acrylics. If you're at all interested, I can send you pics on IG, but I won't be ready to paint them for a couple months, especially after spruecutter models announced that cold war gb. Also, after you prime figures in black, you can spray white directly from above, which highlights the raised detail, and makes highlights and shadows much easier. Also, you can polish the MG with a pencil and give it more of a steel-like metallic sheen.

Everything looks great save one thing. The "belted ammo" on his rifle is much too bright. The bullets should be a dull copper but needs to be "slightly" brighter than the brass cases, (which needs to be a dulled down gold, to look like tarnished brass, with the links, being a gold highlight over a light olive drab color in the recessed areas). The rest looks "primo"!

Hey there. Nice job. I have a question. I am looking for some Viet Nam era mechanics. I have a diorama I’m trying to get the pieces for. I have a 6x6 truck and a Willys that I want to setup in a garage. I have some great accessories, but finding American mechanics is tough. I do have some German WWII tank mechanics, but those will probably be a last resort if I can’t locate Americans, mostly because the uniforms are different. I looked through the Alpine figures, most look to again be WWII and I didn’t see any that looke to be mechanics. Have you got suggestions? Thanks.

Not sure if they have mechanics, specifically, but hopefully you can find something that works! 👍

Hank, how in the heck do you airbrush Vallejo Model Air? I've thinned it with water and with Vallejo Air Brush Thinner trying every different ration from 10:1 to 50:50 and it always comes out less than satisfactory. Regardless of the ratio used, it doesn't seem to be worth the hassle when you can just use Ammo's Acrylic which works with either a brush or an airbrush.

    • @SpruesNBrews

Yeah I haven't had a ton of success airbrushing Vallejo either - I much prefer airbrushing with AMMO. I do love my Vallejo colors for brush work, though!

    Hank, greetings.
    Those soldiers look superb!!!
I’m new to modeling and trying to build a Pacific jungle US Army infantry diorama :)
Have some questions, if I may.
Why the black primer if painting khaki?
I’m using XPS foam as base for a beach sandy uphill trail (Mindanao); which paint, primer or plaster should I use?
Paint; acrylic or oil should I use on my project?
Scale is 1:35; what height palm trees should I use? Scales have me all confused.
    Thank you for your answers.

    • @SpruesNBrews
      @SpruesNBrews  Před 2 lety +2

Hey there - thank you for watching! Re: your questions...
Sounds like it'll be a great project! Enjoy!
I like to use a black primer before doing any paint work because it can help you check the model for imperfections... if you missed trimming or sanding a piece, it'll be very obvious once you prime. The primer also offers a nice base layer & is a bit more friendly to paint on than the bare plastic.
Good call with the XPS foam, that'll work well - I like to us a plaster called Durhams (which has worked really well for me in the past). I also like to use acrylics for all my paint work & save the oils for weathering effects afterwards.
Finally, the palm tree height is totally up to you - I would just keep a fully-built figure on hand to use as a sort of measuring stick. If you consider that the figure is supposed to be around 6" tall, then you can adjust the height of your tree from there. I scratch-built a tree this time last year - here's what I posted about it on Instagram: instagram.com/p/CJ2OeYwh-qA/
Hopefully that can be a helpful reference! Good luck & happy building! 👍

I have just finished painting one of these figures and discovered this tutorial afterwards! Excellent tips and you've got everything spot on; superb results and I'd put these into a display cabinet right away. It's a good figure with a great pose; I've only recently discovered Alpine miniatures, they are slightly harder to obtain across the pond here in the UK 🇬🇧 but the moulding quality is amazing, really excellent detail. I would like to do a British WW2 soldier but can seem to find one; are there any in the Alpine miniature range???
