“And does that express your view, the marriage between the races is fine?” the interviewer asks with slight incredulity. “Yes” Hammerstein shoots back without a pause

Hammerstein is direct and sincere. He is also perceptive and without guile. He is a rare bird-his values precede his politics.

it's so interesting seeing answer questions about Ayn rand of all people. He still remands so thoughtful. " we need her to pull us back and she needs us to pull her forward" is such a beautiful look at the back and forth between conservatives and liberals and leftists.

🎹 If only Oscar Hammerstein hadn't died right after he and Rogers opened the Sound of Music on Broadway in 1960. Imagine the additional gems they would have given us.

Yes agree totally, he was working on a Television version of 'Allegro' when he sadly died in the summer of 1960.

Oscar is a cool dude. He be:
    Cynics gonna' be cynical. I'll
make my art and follow my heart.

The comments about liberal and conservative voices indicate how little has changed. Paul Robeson comments are so pertinent.

The interviewer is way too prominent …. And his opinions haven’t dated as well as Oscar H’s. And comments like “nothing vague about having faith”, “the things we are sentimental about are the most basic things in life, like the birth of a child” “I love trees and I hope I never stop loving them” feel spot on.

The so-called "enhanced audio quality" is positively creepy. They both sound alike and neither one sounds like himself. This is nothing less than digital vandalism!
