This is why i use acrylics. I know your not a fan of them, but they are more forgiving. If I mess up in watercolor, i dont know how to fix it, but with acrylics you just wait for them to dry and paint right over. Takes off some pressure.
I don't like acrylics either. I feel they are a smeary medium, besides them literally being pigment suspended in plastic with the leftover paint ending up in the wastewater which can't get filtered out at the water treatment plant, thereby putting microplastic into the environment.
The Beatles look amazing in both mediums! But it’s always good to find something that works for you and you are more comfortable to use. Usually when I draw I opt for a mechanical pencil instead of a traditional pencil, because it’s easier to “sharpen”
My friend draws and I paint, I could never understand how she could make such cool art with something I thought was not flowy and stale. Seeing your opinion on both mediums I’ve come to the conclusion that it doesn’t matter! As long as you love making art it doesn’t matter how you do it :) thanks Mr.Sava!
And you can even combine both to get the best of both worlds!! Personally I love just wante4colours and gouache but occasionally it's nice adding pencil crayons on my watercolor painting to add more detail/textured shading. They combined together really well
You've really been a big reason I've returned to making art after 2 decades away. Experimenting with various mediums has been eye opening. Thank you so much. 🤗
Your videos make me happy. Your energy and kindness just brights up the room. I was feeling down and you just put a smile in my heart. I feel like I go do some art now, even if it not any good. Thank you so much for posting these videos.
I found watercolors hard to use back then but now I realized it's more easy than any coloring art mats i used lol, love ur content! you inspired me to do art
This guy really helped me find the courage to explore new things and try new things in my art I've never had anyone tell me to try new things and it's okay if I fail the first time.
I was in a long art block, lasted since 2019, before I entered my degree in fine arts a few months ago, then I found Scott. I've been watching his videos and it's been a joy to see how he works with different mediums in each of his videos. It's given me a lot of inspiration to continue practicing even though I was purely demotivated from pursuing it back then. So, I'd like to thank Scott for keeping me on track
we actually have been using watercolors in my art class for our recent projects & ive started preferring watercolors over other things, it's just more calming to me
And this is why I like water color pencils so much! I can get more color coverage much more easily, but I have a lot more control over how the color initially goes down on the page
I really love this I’ve never really been into colored pencils mainly just cause it takes very long and for a lot of the reasons you listed so it’s nice to hear someone else who has that similarities I personally like to paint too but also markers are my main art supply that I use but I think it’s super cool hear your perspective on it❤
Watercolours are cheap , But watercolour papers are super expensive. on the other hand , you can use a colour pencil just on any type of paper (even a printer paper !)
I'm so glad I went back to watching your videos, i remember watching these during covid and enjoyed hearing your commentary and watching you create art. I recently went through a rough patch in my life and I had to cut back on my main form of art which was sewing. But these videos reminded me of long lost mediums that I had (pencils, markers, and paints) and I went back to watching your lives to experiment with my technique and gather the courage to get gouge to mix with my mediums and now I'm so much happier and it really brought me out of the dark place I was in. Thank you so much for your content and inspiring messages
And that's why I mix mediums like you always say! My watercolors and guache for my large backgrounds and my colored pencil for the main subject and fine details
i know this is probably oversharing but thank you for the amazing content!! it’s super comforting and i’ve been having a hard time these past few days because i recently went through a breakup but your content has really helped brighten my mood!! you and your wife both seem like very amazing and caring people!! thank you for all you do!!! :D 💗
I use watercolours and pencils together! I love your art style and how you make videos it’s cool and just got me out of a long art block so thank you so much for that! I also drew the Beatles the other day! Mine were no where as good as yours but I do like them
I love watercolors! But love the colored pencils, soft pastel too! I use mix media because colored pencils are a little slow media... Thank you for this! I didn't know that watercolors were cheaper than colored pencils! Ohhh my!!!😱
I was wondering if you were gonna mention Sarah’s video and her testing of EVERY SINGLE AVAILABLE color pencil test. It’s a fun and learning video. Now if I can get myself to master the watercolors and color pencils!
I was a fan of acrylic Paints, but recently I found out that watercolors are more relaxing, as you don't have to be quick to blend them out. And the moment when two watercolors blend with each other and creates that gradient effect, is awesome. Watercolors definitely provides you with much ease.
I haven't drawn much faces but i think just watching all of your clips of the sped up face drawing added a ton to my drawing arsenal.jolly good show ..you help alot of people
My happy medium is watercolor pencils. I can be as detailed or loose as I want, I can blend colors in interesting ways, and there’s a lot of fun techniques in handling them to get specific looks. I totally get preferring watercolor, it’s also my general preferred medium if I’m not working on a canvas. But, gotta give my water color pencils a shout out, I think the more I get better at them the more I’ll prefer them over watercolor paints. Just me though, but maybe that’s your happy medium between the two as well?
I like to use water color and acrylic paint. I use the acrylic paint first if I want a monotone-ish layer then I can highlight the lighter values with watercolor
It's not practical for most art but I enjoy using pens. Like glitter pens, metallic pens, smooth pens, and even if I don't know how to color or shade properly, they're still my favorite :3
My opinion: I dont have a favorite art medium, if you look at my drawings you will see like 20 different mediums being used (and most of them are pretty decent) but my favorite thing to do is to fill out large areas with things that like guache, watercolor, markers etc. and maybe add a few shadows or highlights on it and then add detail with colored pencils You dont have to pick a side in art use any medium that makes you happy (it doesnt have to be just 1 and it doesnt have to be more than 1, go crazy bro) Thanks for reading this essay
I’m trying to get back into traditional art after sticking to digital for about four years. It is so much more difficult than I thought it would be (my respect for traditional artists has tripled lol) but these videos have really been helping me out so thank you!
I love your videos. You're always inspiring. This coloured pencil week was amazing. I use coloured pencils a lot So I was really enjoying this week. Thank you Scott ❤️
Loved this post & the Beatles portraits in both media!! I have also been a Sarah Renae fan for about a year & really appreciate her pencil brand comparisons. I'm still a hesitant beginner at watercolor & need a lot more practice.
You know, I’d like to see you try out watercolor pencils, it’s a lot more pastel when you use it as water color paint but by drawing with the water on the pencil you get really vibrant colors that can easily be blended out
I'm 11 years old and I started drawing in 2021.I have seen a LOT of improvement. Your the reason why I started using watercolors and now their my favorite medium!I love your videos, I went from someone who hated using watercolors to someone who loves watercolors more then any other medium just because I saw how you used them and realized my mistakes in how I used to use them🤗 Also you're my favorite youtuber!❤
idk if anyone’s mentioned i love that u added a little graphic to show where to find the products u get on screen, i love to see where to find the products u mention and i’m glad more people can see them too! ☺️
as your channel getting me to start trying watercolours, which promptly re-ignited my love for art like I've never seen before? I def recommend. for me it's been wonderful for exploring abstract art like never before
This is amazing! I actually use both pencils and watercolor. I use watercolor to cover big spaces with the right color, but then I shade and blend with color pencils on top. You get realism for cheap, and a watercolor effect!
As a person who uses coloured pencils, I completely agree with the fact it takes forever to cover up a page and begins hurting your wrist. Paints are much easier to use, so are markers, but most definitely paints.
I like it when you use color since I don't usually use color and it matches your artwork 😊 i dont get color a lot when drawing so I only use pencil and pen
Watercolour for me is amazing and so are markers I rarely use pencils since I hate sharpening them, and rubbing hard to get full opacity, but with paints you can play around with them and not be in pain
I personally love to use colored pencils when drawing traditionally, yes it does take a long time to color in a large space with them, but with that time you can pay more attention to the little things, but every time I’ve used water colors they kinda just go everywhere and I can’t get the little details, maybe I’m using them wrong or something but that’s been my experience so far, while water colors take less time you trade it in for a loss of details, but with colored pencils you trade in the short time for precision and detail work
Thank you Scott for sharing your processes, tips, tricks, and more. You’ve been a huge inspiration to me! You were actually the one to get me into gouache! Thank you for all that you do!
I really like using colored pencils on top of markers/watercolor because you get the speed of paint/markers with the precision of pencils. Harder pencils are usually great for this, like Polychromos, and I assume Caran D'ache are as well (Idk if that's true I can't afford them)
Here's the really cool test Sara did!

Thank u for sharing 😤something I needed to watch-
I admit to thinking about her tests while you do yours
The Waffle House has found its new host.

Does Sarah or you have color pencil blending videos?
i love this guys content, he encouraged me to get back into art
Me too!
Same!
Sameee
Same🥰
No way me too! He’s so excited about art is makes me wanna draw until my arms fall off!
I honestly give props to people who use color pencils all the time. I used to, and stop because my hand/wrist was just hurting WAY to much
I’m left handed I remember the horror of how my hand lookef after a drawing session
Same, still great for accents though.
@@js-tw3vs for sure!! I use it on top of my alcohol markers!
@@ZhannArtI am also left handed!
I never get dark enough with colored pencils because I always go so light and get to a point where I'm afraid to add more in case I ruin it.
This is why i love multimedia. I just use marker or watercolor for large areas of relatively solid color and then continue with the pencils
Same!
Same!!
Sara also did a video explaining how to properly blend colored pencils without breaking your wrist.
This is why i use acrylics. I know your not a fan of them, but they are more forgiving. If I mess up in watercolor, i dont know how to fix it, but with acrylics you just wait for them to dry and paint right over. Takes off some pressure.
Makes perfect sense
Watercolor wise you can always re-wet the paint or area then dab it with paper towel
I don't like acrylics either. I feel they are a smeary medium, besides them literally being pigment suspended in plastic with the leftover paint ending up in the wastewater which can't get filtered out at the water treatment plant, thereby putting microplastic into the environment.
@@ladyinblack3398 I always just wait till it drys, so long as theres a bit left it’ll peel off no problem
@@krissyharms4151yea I let the water dry out them throw away the paint at the bottom
Love your point of view on these very important topics and how you chose the path to where you are today. Inspiring
You should do a Beatles album cover with all 4 brands! Use the best aspects of each on each portion . Thanks for making me a better artist Scott.
This is great and I love how much thought he puts into his art, sometimes art just needs to feel fun.

I think the best way to describe watercolors is spontaneous.

I actually use both in my art! I will use water color as a base color, and then use colored pencils for details afterwards
Hi! Ur vids are so inspiring. They make me keep going and making art, even if I feel like giving up ❤

I prefer colored pencils because they’re so literal! They let me control exactly what I wanna put in the page!
This guy is one of my favorite artists on CZcams. He’s so uplifting and really helps me feel good about my art. ❤
Love colour pencils! I also switched to aquarelles for the same reasons!
