The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

From Ed's 14th Anniversary episode; Kate gives us a stirring rendition of this great song from the "Sound of Music". One of my grandfather's favorite singers. Thank you for this performance!
Powerful voice.
Magnificent!!!
Great inspirational song ! What a truly amazing voice ! Wow !
Kate Smith always makes me think of my late granddad.
Fantastic!
Kate The Great! Never get tired of her wonderful singing and personality!
she almost got the nun part in the movie singing this, but the producers thought it would be too distracting at that touching moment with everybody in the audience saying "hey look! its kate smith!"
Have never heard/read she was considered for the film. Interesting.
I read that, too.
Thanks for sharing this excellent video of Kate Smith, always a treat to hear her sing.
Have a great day!
I loved Kate. Still do!
I love Kate Smith🎉
Love Kate Smith. My Aunt had a chance to a singing competition with her but she decided to just stay on the farm and continue teaching. I wonder how different her life might have been if she had competed and won. Kate had an amazing voice and range and the woman could dance!
We love you Kate ❤.
Katie Smith! Wonderful KATE!!! I was a little kid...maybe 4-5....and she sang with full voice and huge heart. During WW2 I listened more and loved it. Her voice made me feel strong and good. Bless you, Kate! hugs from Dee
wow
I was 3 years old when that episode aired
🤙❤💛💚🤙
She had a winter residence in Palm Beach, Florida, where I played tennis as a boy
Reveriê
But no key change to the high ending. That would not have worked on stage or film.
Love her voice and plain interpretation, but without that thrilling high note - much is lost.
So is everyone supposed to sound like Mariah Carey?
Kate Smith was a wonderful entertainer (probably best known for singing, "God Bless America"). Her statue was taken down (years after her death, in 2019) by the "woke" crowd in Philadelphia, over some songs she recorded decades earlier, which were suddenly declared as being "racist." (No matter that many black entertainers sang them too). Kate was "erased" and carted away (in her hometown) in the middle of the night, by cowards who wouldn't/couldn't do so in broad daylight. Look it up folks.
There are other reasons related to her politics and statements. And a sad scandal in her later years when much of her life was made public.
not bad, but listen to Judith Durham take this song out
