    Great video sir. So thankful I caught this video before I "worked" my son's ride. I knew right away something more was going to happen.

    I agree 18 volts on a stock setup should be max even with aftermarket motors. You want to go to 24 volts or higher look into doing an ESC conversation that will allow you to have variable throttle and soft stop/start and you wont blow up the gearboxes as easy. Also I heard those metal first gears are just a gimmick. Also if you want to keep it at 12 volts but have more speed, try finding a donor super six setup. That is a power wheels that is 6 volts with dual motors. The single seat trucks and the cars power wheels are two that I know of. Those can be boosted to 12 volts with no mods and are faster then almost all stock 12 volt motors at 18 volts. They are stable at 12 volts and require no supporting mods.

    Also Motor RPM plays a major factor in speed too. The Duratrax 550 Motor has high RPMS and is equivalent to the Super Six Motors. They will go faster then the Traxxas 775 motors on stock 12 volts, but they do not handle 18 volts at all and the Traxxas motors will outperform at 18 volts

    Put a 20v 6ah on 12v Corvette and the gear broke in about 20 mins. Best 20 mins he ever had on a PW.

      Dalton Cedars I ordered mine from mltoys.com. There is another website. kidscarsandparts.com. Make sure you research video's and comments below video's they will give you all the pro's and con's of upgrading your child's ride. Just remember you will be repairing them all the time because they are not designed for the upgrades. Plastic gears are the biggest problem...….Thanks Ken

      Muhammad Ali, all the gears in gears in the gear boxes are pretty much the same ratio. Motor's and the pinion gears attached to the motors are your best bet. You are limited to what size pinion gears are able to mesh with the gear boxes. On the gear boxes they are labeled with pinion gear sizes where the motors are mounted.MLTOYS.com can give you the rpm of the various motors. Hope this helps Ken

    Do I need upgrade to thicker wire? from 12v to 24v

    • @kennethbowman8570
      @kennethbowman8570  Před 5 lety

      If going to 24v yes I would upgrade the wire. mltoys.com sells upgraded wiring harness. Myself I perfer 18v and not upgrade the wire using 40 amp inline fuse. 24 volts causes to many parts to brake. Thanks for your question. Ken

    what kind od grease do you use for the gear boxes?

    • @kennethbowman8570
      @kennethbowman8570  Před 6 lety +1

      Scott Mertlidhb. Grease that works on plastics or nylon. Hobby, hardware, or auto store. Can buy from mltoys.com. I use tht original grease also but taking care to remove all of plastic debris in the grease from stripped gears. Note that you don't need alot of grease. You will see the amount of grease when you open the gear box case. Thanks for asking. Good info for others. Ken

      Sorry Scott Mertlich misspelled your name

    • @kennethbowman8570
      @kennethbowman8570  Před 6 lety

      Scott Mertlich You will notice that every time you open a gear box case the smallest gear meshed to the motor's pinion gear will have no grease on the outer teeth. This is the reason why you need to buy metal first gears if you run 24 volts and 775 motors. Electricity is heat. So the extra heat induced to the plastic gear makes it warp and melt. Metal gear is a better heat sink for heat to dissipate. Thanks Ken

      @@chuckturner997 Are you upgrading to 18 volts or 24 volts? What size motors 550 or 775? What kind of batteries are you using? If you are trying to use power wheels batteries and you hook two of them together it will trip the built in circuit breaker in the power wheel batteries and the power wheels car will not run. The batteries circuit breaker will reset after it cools off and the car will run for a short time and then the batteries circuit breaker will trip again. This will happen over and over again. I used leaded sealed batteries one 12 volt and one 6 volt. You want to make sure that the batteries have the same amp-hour rating. Always check first at the power source.Ken

I was listening on my phone, at low volume, so I could not hear it clearly. Actually, I would love to get in contact with you via email or something as to get more info on your builds.
      I’ve been scouring the web for way to upgrade my sons Power Wheels Batman Dune Racer. Same thing as you have ultimately. There are so many different opinions about what works and does. It work that it is almost dizzying. I am to the point where I want to put the steel 1st gear in and upgrade to 18v only. If you are interested in possibly emailing with me I will give you my email.
      Regardless of what you decide, great video.

    • @kennethbowman8570
      @kennethbowman8570  Před 6 lety

      Brett Baratheon lol. Only use steel first gear if you run 24 volts or 775 motors. More heat from motors will melt plastic first gear at 24 volts. 775 motors will have more torque at 18 volts but you will strip teeth off the output gear before stripping gears on the plastic first gear. UPGRADING will cause gears to strip no matter what you do using 550 or 775 motors. Best way to keep parts from breaking is by not doing any upgrades.

      Brett Baratheon if you do try upgrading, first run 18 volts with the original motors that came with the riding toy. Make sure you buy two extra output gears before hand. Cost about $25 each. Might be enough extra speed with out costing a lot of money. I wish I would have done that first. 24 volts really tears up gears and over heats motors. Stay 18 volts. Cheaper to buy A gokart.
