Competition is always good. The risk is to incumbents, "it may not turn out as good as it could be" ... for incumbents.
Governments do not want decentralized money. Their sovereign fiat funds their military and power. So, especially the US is fighting decentralized money. It's all about power, control, and the incumbents.
