This piece is incredible. It's so much fun to play, has a high energy that keeps you at the edge of your seat, and is filled with learning experiences.
in my freshman year of hs i was introduced to this beautiful piece. the symphonic band played it at our schools winter concert and because of this piece i was really inspired to join the symphonic band. 3 years later, as a senior who’s going to college for music education and composition (also partially because of this piece) i’m happy to say the symphonic band is playing vesuvius again and i’m the percussion section leader. it’s like a dream come true!
Most fun piece I’ve ever played. All the key changes kept me on the edge of my seat and in 10th grade when I played this I was just absolutely blown away to see all the crazy stuff the tuba part had.
The hospital nursery band is playing this tonight. I'm the super-concertmaster (born yesterday btw) and we're so excited to be playing this at double the tempo!
My band director loved this piece I think we played it minimum 2 times. But it was by far one of my favorite pieces. Low brass had the best parts in this I think (I was a baritone player)
This piece is really fun to play but also a pain in the arse cuz it goes from 3/4 to 2/4 to 6/8 to 1/4. One of the hardest pieces i’ve played as a 13 year old
My field show is in 9/8, the easiest way to think about it is by grouping, not by counting every beat. I think the pattern is 12 123 12 12, just think 1 2 3 4 with a longer 2, bob your head, and just get in a groove, after you feel it its pretty easy.
Watch how the conductor is conducting. 9/8 is done with the same pattern as 3/4. Down, over, up. (split up in groups of 3. I.e. 123/223/323) 12/8 is the same pattern as 4/4. Down, left, right, up. (123/223/323/423). It's very similar to triplets on a standard 4/4 or 3/4 pattern
@@andrewperez6147 you're right. Sadly i counted it correctly in my head, then wrote the wrong information. Granted it's been over 10 years since i played this piece or looked at the music.
Typ0e well you know how it is when you all get a little too excited/nervous and accidentally start a chain reaction of everyone playing to fast...I thought it sounded great though, I actually teared up a little it was so beautiful 🤷♀️
@@SinkularJame indeed he is. It was just interesting to hear a different take from pretty much all other recordings and I’m also surprised the person who composed it went away from the tempo he selected. Maybe this is later after it was released and he decided he wanted to change it up a little bit. Either way it sounds good, and my comment wasn’t in a negative light.

This is scary enough on its own without playing with Ticheli conducting it. Well done!
I got to play this with Ticheli conducting a few months back and it was awesome. He's a super chill dude too, was great to work with him.

same... one for the playbooks and always a kingly choice to revisit!
I almost played this piece this year but we never did, and the tuba part looked super fun
One of my favorite pieces. It was fun playing this. (Alto Sax)
AMAZING! I played this in varsity band, so I can appreciate the difficulty in the piece! It actually made me tear up it was so well done. 👏👏😢👏👏
I'm playing this in my Wind Symphony in 10th grade.
got the chance to play this with ticheli conducting in an honor band just a few weeks ago. great guy

played the oboe in this and was one of the most fun pieces to play!
I’m playing this in my state wind symphony in grade 8. The flute part is so fun
played this as the sax soloist for my high school recently pretty cool to see it conducted by the man himself
Wish me luck flutes hehe
Shelby Sanders me too dude
gonna pray hard :"" imagine being the only one in the section

Did we go to the same school? We played this only twice too much to my disappointment
@@matthewdixon8862 I think we played it once my junior year and twice my senior year.
Amazing!!! Our Hebron Band just performed Ticheli's "Angels in the Architecture!" Brilliant!
Absolutely loved this piece. Played this in high school and had the amazing solo!
I just played this a week ago in Symphonic Band. This is an amazing piece. Fast paced. In my top five favorite pieces.
Monroe concert band is playing this tonight. I'm first alto.
I've played this before, but not at that tempo! That was really quite spunky! Well done!
Bro did an any% of his own piece

0:00-8:24 is the whole piece.
thanks?
my 8th grade symphonic band is playing this (the flute section is absolutely throwing) wish us luck. we have to learn it in 2 months
High School memories
I prefer it at the slower temo. It's more beautiful that way. I like the beauty mixed with chaos instead of the chaos overshadowing the beauty.
I have to play this in 3 days
🍀🎶🍀
My 8th grade band is playing this and I’m playing saxophone for it.
@@markbernard4156 It could be true- might be a music school, or a very ambitous director.
Mark Bernard nah bro he’s not lying I played this when I was still a sperm cell in my dad’s nut
Mark Bernard it’s not a lie, we have played pretty advanced music before and she believes we can play this.
You Gotta Ride Jimin Before You Park Jimin hey don’t forget the 1/4 bar 🙄
Kale Kalahan you right
Any tips to help count the 9/8, 12/8, and 11/8 in this piece?

Be careful not to drag.......

@@felicitysmith759 the eighth notes are not in groupings of 3, in this peice they are irregular, the groups are 12,123,12,12

dang y they going so fast chill dogs xD
Tyrique Payne because that’s the way Ticheli wanted it played, I’m in the trumpet section.
@@pgagne1 ye ik its supposed to be fast but all other recordings i've heard hasn't been this fast, and when my band played it n

Well, the composer is the person conducting it..
