The Kennedy Center's Mark Twain Prize, which is named to honor one of the world’s greatest humorists, was awarded to Kevin Hart at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy and entertainment -- including Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Fallon, Tiffany Haddish, Chelsea Handler, J.B. Smoove, Keith Robertson, Nelly, The Plastic Cup Boyz, Na’im Lynn, Nick Cannon, Lewis Dix, "Lil Dicky" and more -- on March 24th, 2024, and premieres on Netflix May, 11th 2024 during the Netflix is a Joke Fest.

Kevin Hart is a good stand up and the biggest comedy movie star to ever exist. I do think that both as a stand comedian there are people who are funnier. But Kevin also elevates the stand up genre by bringing some extra fire, movie stuff and other entertainment. All in All, I do believe Kevin is definitely deserving.

Can someone please tell me why Kevin Hart is given a prize that's based on exemplary written work? Like, Chappelle and Stewart I understand. Kevin Hart though, I don't even find funny, let alone philosophical. This is just a marketing ploy at this point, and that's just sad.
He is, by far, the top selling comic. And is in the top 5 of richest comics. Somebody thinks he is funny.
@@freemagicfun That's why I wrote that I don't find him funny. Obviously many people do. However, the Twain prize specifically, looks at the quality of the work, not it's popularity. I believe it looks at the written word primarily. The craftsmanship of a lot of Chappelle's material is exquisite. Stewart managed to bridge journalistic integrity with comedic flare. Call it snobbish, but there's an intellectual gravitas that Hart absolutely lacks as far as I can tell. And that's ok. Hart works hard, and has created an excellent brand for himself. People often need entirely escapist humour, and he should be lauded for that. But it is not what the Mark Twain award is for, in my opinion.

If getting an award was as simple as "doing it first," then there'd be no point to it. Don't discount the work that Kevin himself put in as well, he wasn't placed where he was by the powers that be, he worked hard and climbed that same mountain that everyone else tried to climb. He's become one of the biggest names in comedy ever and a bridge between cultures. I don't think him receiving this honor is a slap in the face to those who haven't.
But I will agree that it's criminal that Chris Rock himself hasn't gotten the award yet. Not because Kevin got it first, but because I believe Chris has MORE than earned his flowers, and probably should have gotten it long before this anyways.
