- This was the last day of Macy’s at Hilltop Mall in Richmond, California 3/21/2021. It is also likely one of the last days for the mall itself. The mall opened in 1976. I was there on the first day. Now almost everything is closed. The mall has been sold snd faces an uncertain future.
Dang, so many memories as a kid, a teenager, and as a young adult.
That upstairs Macy’s was the spot for a quiet #2. Lol
This is the second time that building has closed down since it first opened in 1976. It had closed down before back in 1996 when it used to be Emporium Capwell. Macy's had later moved in to that same building in 1998, only to be closed down again 23 years later in 2021.
I miss the old decade when there were people shopping at that mall
OMG!!!! I haven't been to Hilltop Mall in YEARS.
The carpeting was really dirty
And with that, Hilltop Mall took its final, shuddering breath.
May it rest in peace.
Still holding Walmart for a long time
I know they opened up a City Sports down the street where Barnes N Noble used to be.
But did 24 hour fitness open back up ??

Fuckin sad! Malls are Dying, some faster than others, tanforan in San Bruno is dying a slow death.✨
Tanforan is slated to become an office park eventually.

Hilltop mall was already declining around as far back as 2006. When McDonald's left is when stores slowly starting closing
