WNBA Commissioner gets painfully honest on Caitlin Clark treatment

  • WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has emphasized the rigorous adjustment process required for all rookies, including Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark. Engelbert compared the NBA to the WNBA, noting that the league's focus is not on any single player. Clark's early achievements in the WNBA, such as being named Rookie of the Month for May, highlight her ability to compete at the WNBA level. However, some argue that the physicality Clark is experiencing is a necessary adjustment for any player transitioning from college to professional basketball.

Play hard is one thing. It shouldn't include dirty play. It is a shame that you look for excuse to justify those dumb and jealous players.

It is a different style of play from college to professional as a step up in physicality and rough play but it is becoming evident that a number of fouls stand out as deliberate and flagrant and step way over the professional style of play and obvious targeted abuse upon Caitlin Clark.

I tell you this. I never had an interest until Clark. Just like Woods with Golf. When Woods went, I went. When Clark goes, I go. Simple as that. WNBA had a chance. I suspect it is dying again.

Caitlin Clark can only do so much for the WNBA. The "W" needs a new Commissioner! The Fever needs a new head coach!
A new WNBA Commissioner who is really committed to "growing the game" would lower the rim on a two year trial basis and would have fought to get Caitlin on the US Olympic team.
A new Fever head coach would grow the team around Caitlin and get rid of any malcontents on the team. You just know there are at least 1 or 2 women on Caitlin's team who have sided with Angel Reese.

I just cant stomach the lack of sportsmanship and civility against someone who has not uttered a pointed word towards any of them. And so many people are cowered into not defending her. Scaredy cat Bostons face and her just barely helping her teammate will never be forgotten. Karma is undefeated.

I have seen her get smacked in the head twice and taken to the floor. How many haven’t I’ve seen?
I have seen players walk by her and give her the shoulder when the clock isn’t running.
I have watched pundits play clips in games where it’s obvious that some of her own teammates won’t pass to her.
She throws great passes but close to half are dropped. Is it that girls can’t catch or is it on purpose.
What I see is many forms of belligerence.
What if she just quit? The crowds she draws would stop. The TV audience would dry up.
So Madam Commissioner you need to get control of your league. Or maybe Golden Girl will just stop playing.

Change fouling out from 6 fouls to 5 fouls. This will make it easier to control the physicality because the players will be conscious of the chance of fouling out. It works in college. Also clean up the refereeing. Currently two standards exist. Rough treatment for the rookies and easier treatment. for veterans is unacceptable. A foul is a foul regardless of who commits it. These changes seem reasonable to me since the WNBA plays 40 minute games like colleges. Perhaps college officials could be hired during the summer instead of the current officials. This would also improve the pro game.

When will WNBA learn that Caitlin is at the level that forces matches to be moved to bigger Arenas. No one else in the WNBAs history has done that! Everywhere she comes, it's sold out at a new never seen ticket prize. No one else in the WNBA can do this. Not even Reese. You have to start taking Caitlin serious.

We expect more from Caitlin because she did things in college that no one ever did. None of these established pros were number one or at least near the top in just about every category in college basketball. When we put her near the top of the W. coming in, it was because there is no one else like her. Why do you think people are following her so much. They know what she’s capable of.

  • @brittanyfrost-firestone5906

I watched the WNBA when it first came out. After 2002, it hasn’t been worth watching. Outside of Sue Bird, the league is garbage. It’s bankrupt. People keep talking about Caitlin Clark and how she’s being roughed up and how she’s white and straight. Well here’s where it is. She is playing the role of Magic and Larry when they came to the NBA and saved the league. That is what she and only she can do. I think Sue Bird is the goat in women’s basketball. If Clark can have a successful career and win multiple championships, she has the opportunity to become the goat. This issue with this Angel Reese girl, she’s so jealous, she’s not WNBA material but she got into the league. She has a terrible attitude. She’s not even a good player. Within a year she will be out of the league and working at a Starbucks complaining about Caitlin Clark, all the while Clark will fast becoming the goat. If that Reese girl would look at Larry and Magic on how they elevated their teams to be the best and play against each other for championships, she could be a halfway decent player, but she doesn’t have the intelligence. She’s not even a has been, she’s a never was. On the other hand when people talk about Caitlin Clark, they will be associating her name with greatness. She’s the future goat. Great attitude, hard working, great role model. I can’t wait to see her achieve that. My #22 jersey is on the way!
