  • Replace heated mirror glass in your car or truck. Whether your mirror lens is heated or not heated you can follow this easy how to video to replace it.
You need to determine if your mirror lens on your car or truck is heated or not. You can check to see if you have a defrost option near your mirror control panel. If there is no defrost option near the panel on the driver side door then you can turn on your defrost inside your car. In my case in my 1999 Toyota 4Runner the front defrost turned the defrost on my mirror lens. If your mirror lens does not heat up then you do not have a heating element in your mirror lens.
Once you determine which style mirror lens you have then you can purchase the correct lens. In both cases you have to remove the glass. Wear gloves and use a putty knife, pick, or flat head screwdriver to remove the broken mirror glass.
Remove the heating element if you have one and remove the backing plate if needed. Disconnect the electrical connector to the heating element and attached the new one. Attach any other hardware as necessary. Attach the backing plate and then the sticky adhesive mirror lens with the heating element.
Push firmly but gently to allow the adhesive to stick to the backing plate. You can turn on the defrost or use a bowl and tape to push the glass firmly on the backing plate. If you allow the bowl to sit over night then you should probably keep the defrost option off. It may drain your battery if you leave the defrost on the whole night. Do not leave the bowl on the mirror lens for more than 10 minutes with the defrost on.

Thank you for your video... I have a 2000 4runner & I kept the old heating element and just glued the new mirror only to it and the backing to the plastic... works great without having to pay the extra for the heated sideview mirror replacement!

    Nice video, helpful.
But I wouldn't suggest wearing latex gloves as being protective gear when working worn broken glass😉

Would it be a good idea to heat the mirror up first then take off the glass bits ?

    HELP PLEASE
I have the same mirror mechanism on my 2000 Honda Passport and it was flopping around so I tried to pop the glass out and it would not. Then I saw your video and realized that there is a screw under the glass in the middle. How can i fix the loose spring causing the floppy problem without breaking the mirror?

Bad design. I have hyundai entourage. Mirror is not broken. Just the defrost not working. It may be just a corroded connection and i have to break the mirror just to get to the connection. Very poor engineering. Also, you may want to check things are working before you adhere the mirror. It would suck if the heater wasnt working and you had to pull it back off to check connection. They should have wired the connection all the way through the door panel.
