Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode. Pentaholics are the ones who need to see this the least.

Yeah. That incredible discordant "chior of angels" moment never fails to move people. This is one of the only covers of this song that I feel does justice to John Lennon.
I would argue that John Lennon didn't do it justice.
If you pay attention to the 1st sign by Mitch to Scott you will get the reasoning of Superfruit. This was the first time Scott revealed his sexuality. Each card shows what they have in common with the next member, then flipped to their own individual and flipped again to the next member that they shared.

Their bell chords are one of the trademarks of the layers they are able to produce. Then that wall of sound they create always, ALWAYS, get to me.....then....H U M A N. I'll take love over hate any day. Love and peace out all, and to you for the lovely reaction. "Rather Be" just because Kirstie gets the lead lol.

They call those individual background notes that remind you of Christmas "bell tones." Pentatonix regularly uses them to substitute for piano, though I think they sound more like a xylophone.
This is one of the few songs that Pentatonix can't perform as well live. That first card that they pass around relies heavily on computer graphics to handle the changing words, and without it the song is only a cover, not an upgrade.
This is not just an upgrade of "Imagine"; it's also a response to it. John Lennon's masterpiece says that things like religion and nationality divide us; Pentatonix responds by showing how a *community* can celebrate both their commonalities and their differences.
I'm old enough to remember the evening news on December 8, 1980 - John Lennon, ambushed as he was coming home, murdered in front of his wife by a man who waited around for the police because he was proud of what he'd done. For many of us from my generation the shock and grief remain as strong today as they were 42 years ago. John was just 40 years old. 😢
I wish he could have seen this video. It would have made him so proud.
There is a mini concert (four songs) they did as part of a concert called Pop Spring that Japan used to hold every year featuring various groups the year was 2016. Three are original songs and one is a mashup of various Michael Jackson songs. Sony provided the equipment so the sound is excellent and you don’t have to worry about filters and frequent stops to avoid blocking the video. Put it on your list of Want/Need to watch. It’s about 16 minutes and it would be really fun to watch your reaction. P.S. both Kirstie and Mitch are dressed as animae characters to honor the fans attending.

I was wondering when you were going to get choked up. I thought it would have been with the cards. This is hands down my favorite pentatonicx's video. I love the way they have updated the message from over 50 years ago when John Lennon originally did it. Sadly I think in another 50 years the message from the song will apply to this much as it does now and did when John Lennon wrote it.... Kevin's cover of down is awesome as is Scott's Single called mars that His fiance appears in. Kirsten Is the name of Kirstie's channel and she has Naked and afraid little are my favorite and from avi's Career change on the rise which is about him coming out of a depression. That should keep you busy for a while.

Hello Debbie, For sure one of the best PTX covers. The arrangement, the solos, the bell tones (those sounds that you like), the layering and stacking of the vocals, the wall of sound. The message on the cards, we are all different, but we have so much in common and we are all human. Bringing John Lennon's message from 1971 right into today. PTX excels again. So glad that you enjoyed this. Looking forward to more PTX.

I had to chuckle when you talked about not being able to sing with PTX because you'd be so mesmerized by them that you wouldn't be able to do your part. Scott has actually said that he's gotten so immersed listening to Mitch that he's messed up an entrance or his harmony part!

Try the live version of "Don't Know Much" with Aaron Neville, it's stunning, and continue on (because you'll want to) to Blue Bayou, You're No Good, Desperado, It's So Easy...any of those songs are incredible. For the record, I am Christian, but, this is secondary to the message of the song. A lot of us in the "Christian community" get a bad reputation of not loving and judging our fellow human beings and you know what? It's very regrettable that people do this and they dont speak for me. I think if we as humans practice what this song teaches and live by its words, I believe we will be okay. Just remember, hate has no place in our communities and tolerance and love for others does.
