  • In this episode of the Perspective Prog. based on Role of Women in Armed Forces. Raksha Mantri has said that Government has taken evolutionary path to ensure equal participation of women in Armed Forces. Delivering the inaugural address at SCO webinar on ‘Role of Women in Armed Forces’, on Thursday he said India has taken a number of steps to strengthen the role of women within the security setup in general and the armed forces in particular. Speaking at the same webinar Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat also observed that the distinction between the role of men and women in warfighting is blurring. Indian Army, Air Force and Navy began inducting women as short-service commission (SSC) officers in 1992.This was the first time when women were allowed to join the military outside the medical stream. One of the turning points for women in the military came in 2015 when Indian Air Force decided to induct them into the fighter stream. In 2020, the Supreme Court (SC) ordered the central government to grant permanent commission (PC) to women officers in the Army's non-combat support units on par with their male counterparts. In March 2021, the Indian Navy deployed four women officers on warships after a gap of 23 years. Two months later in May 2021 Indian Army got its first batch of 83 women soldiers, in the Corps of Military Police. From 2022 women will also be able to join the premier tri-service training institute, the National Defence Academy.

    WOMEN'S ARM
The evolution in arm forces is a big thing that we are having today but needs more variation
"Women has power to back us as they do as a mother".
For quite long period we have been having discussion on women empowerment and their participation in different domains of workforce and that too happened with the passage of time. Women are now the active members in the main line of jobs, whether its the service sectors like banking, railways, Telecom, engineering and doctor , their presence is taking the nation at the greatest pride and being a developing nation it set examples to others as well.
It can't be denied the potential of women in workforce they are engaged with but we know there has always been a social dismay on women participation on the defence forces. There has been a debate that this isn't for women and they can't fit for this force as well.
Though we had a lot of opposition on women joining in military, India made many doubts clear by inducting women in the forces for the first time in the year 1992 and after that things started changing. In 2015 the Indian air force hired women in fighter domain.
The selected women made the nation flag to fly high and for that reason the apex court ordered to hire them in NDA as well and 2022 will be a new era of women in NDA.
There are active participation of women defence force but they are still not being part of the combating forces plus they had short services. Ya the latter one i e short services has been shorted out as they also got a permanent commission now but in combating, they are still finding ways.
We know the armed force isn't a job but a different world and variation takes time. We are looking at opting girls in sanik schools now , so it won't be longer to wait for equal treatment of women with that of men.

It's not about equality, it's about who is best for the job of the army during the war

Sainik school cadets must have some sorts of reservations for joining NDA as students who prepare for JEE Mains & Advance in Kota also appear for the exam and make it difficult clearing written exams for dedicated cadets studying in Sainik Schools with no coaching.
