Great stand out song of Escape at Dannemora. Right when Murder's getting busted. Out of 39 songs in the series, this was my favorite.
This has to be one of the greatest covers ever done by an artist. Well, and there's Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt too.

The original was done by Louis Armstrong.
You're right, Gainsbourg himself made a cover of the original from the 1930s, named "Vieille canaille", but for some reason (the genius of Gainsbourg, probably), the lyrics in French and his interpretation have much more intensity. This one is a nice cover, though. :)
