What all is needed in terms of passport to get into all those countries, does one need to apply for visa in advance?

This is amazing! I am trying to understand the level of planning and sacrifice this must have taken.
I know for a fact, border crossings in Africa are a challenge esp if you hold a passport from another African country (eg Kenya, for me), and i can also imagine the tenacity you must have required to deal with that.
And not forgetting the law keepers, rightful and not.
Kudos man; i got goosebumps the first 5 times i watched this epic journey.
Want to do Nairobi to capetown trip through Uganda ,Rwanda, Burundi, Tz, Zambia, Zimbabwe, SA,Mozambique, Malawi Tz then back to Nairobi with my bmw e39
Bet it's a lot of "Just Go" People who completed such a journey are the type that don't do too much planning.
@@erickmungala7986 that wouldn't be too bad. Pretty safe along that whole area. Still though be prepared to run and survive in the bush for a week just in case. Like just a well planned large backpack.

Guys, again.. There are definitely no KFC or even restaurants in some parts of the African bush.. If you think it s abuse or bad, please teach me a quicker way to kill a chicken without a sharp knife, I ll be waiting... (the chicken was dead at the first turn of its neck)

Glad to have inspired you and it is a great thing to plan and do! Northern Mozambique, Ethiopia and Sudan might have become more difficult to drive through these days but I am sure there is a way. There is a facebook group that seems to be helpful for the planning, I found it after my trip though.. it s called Overland africa

I am genuinely in awe. It is amazing you managed to get through it alive! I'm wanting to do this with a few friends once we finish school. When I last went to Zimbabwe, it was hard to get past the police blocks without losing at least $100. We found the border crossing from South Africa to Zimbabwe absolute hell and visas proved a problem (being British). Have you any tips to bypass this? Also, getting the 'right' car plus insurance (we'll only be 19)

my only tip is for you to be patient and have no schedule or something very flexible.. I had 79 roadblocks on the trip (counted them) and you have to take each as a game and give away some cigarettes, cokes, small usd notes instead of big money.. or ask where is the closest atm and it s usually so far away that they ll let you go :) Car insurance just take the COMESA one, covers about everywhere

Cape to Cairo or Cairo to Cape Town? Sudan is fairly easy. You just get a 2 weeks transit visa from their consulate in Addis. They ll require you to have the following country's visa in advance. So you cant plan on a visa on arrival in Egypt and you have to organize it before. For the vehicle's Carnet de Passage and insurance it is standard procedures, like for the other countries. It is one of the countries i enjoyed the most..

I'm thinking of traveling solo on a ride from Top of Africa (Morocco) to the bottom (South Africa). What is the ratio of hard surfaces (tarmac or hard packed gravel) compared with off-road and technical riding? I have a BMW F850GSA that I took from Miami to Thailand last year. Its great, but it's also heavy. I was thinking of getting a KTM 790 Adventure to save weight. But if the travels are mostly hard packed, I may not. Thanks.
