Great video. Your project turned out well. I am looking to do something similar and your video is the best I have found in terms of detail, quality and final outcome. Nice job!
In the end if you show someone a picture of what you started with they will be impressed but also doubtful that it’s even the same boat. The transformation so far is incredible.
I used to have to drill a lot of plexiglass or Perspex when I was making showcases at the museum, I found that if you touch up a normal drill with a sharpening stone so that it has a little bit of negative rake you won’t ever crack the plastic, slow and steady is the key mate👍
@@barrylukebuilds7894 i made a probe holder for my fish tank out of a pretty thin piece of plexi with fairly sharp corners with a bernzo, once it was hot i did like you did and used a flat board to roll it over. Boat is looking awesome !! Cant wait to see it in its natural habitat!!
Good video! I watched looking for mounting hardware ideas, just made a replacement screen last week. They sell "acrylic" bits, but really all they are is slightly duller lead edge, they burn a little more cut a little less. Counterintuitive but a dull bit works better for acrylic.
@@barrylukebuilds7894 I wish I could but michigan weather is been so messed up it's not warm anoff for any glassing at the moment but hopefully soon it will stay warm thanks again my friend
Next time if no helper available - if you can’t get to head side of bolts, cut a slot in the bolt end with a small Drexel cut off wheel, then you can use a small screwdriver to hold the bolt, while tightening the nut. Had to replace a water pick up scoop which had 4 bolts thru the bottom of the keel to tighten from inside. I bored the nylon out of nyloc nuts - to save some time and just used some caulk down low on the threads to hold them.
Robert Interesting tip! I will try to remember it. These bolts in particular are very patient, They will wait until I grab my neighbor. Thanks For watchin! Barry
Great content I was looking at making one for a more complex curve so you gave me some good info . On the top of the windshield to bend it down the windshield on one of my other boats is cut down on the side where the bend would be across the front don’t know if that would help you now though .
Barry, where did you buy/find the red grommets? I had to order a new windshield for my boat and it came un drilled. I like your install way better than the way the windshield manufacturer wants me to do it. Great job on your windshield by the way!!!!😃😃. Thanks for the help. Have a nice Christmas 🎄🎄🎄
Thanks Jack! McMaster Carr Supply Awesome easy to search and use website. The Amazon of mechanical bits and pieces. Good luck and thanks for watching. Barry
That was awesome. I have never worked with Poly sheet material and know I will have to in the future on my boat so was glad to see this! Have you considered Ny-lock nuts for the inside nuts?
Used the same grommet method on my windshield. When I drilled my holes I used regular cobalt drill bits just started small and kept stepping the bits up. Really liking the build, keep up the good work. I’ll be following along. What engine are you hanging on her?
It happens to all of us from time to time. Especially it you take it to the ocean… it is a lot of work to wash it after fishing or boating all day. What is the thickness of the plexiglass?
Hey my friend...great job on the windscreen...The drilling part is always the scariest!!! a quick question more as an after thought...if i may... we all know how brittle plexiglass is and drilling it close to the edge opens up the possibility of it cracking or shattering...my thought is this...Would heating the area to be drilled with a heat gun, or torch prior to drilling help??? or hurt ??? Heating it just enough to lesson some of the brittleness...but not enough to soften it or deform it... i haven't tried this option yet...but wondering if anyone else has... My thoughts are anything that could lesson the chance cracking is a bonus... now on a side note... My 20 ft WellCraft center console project I told you about awhile back...... is now on 100% hold... Friday morning my 22 year old daughter was trying to feed our dogs, and my Black Lab decided he was going to get super aggressive towards her... We've been having problems with him...and knew something was going to have to be done soon... She called me into the kitchen, and I averted his focus from her to me, and was trying to calm him down, at the last second, she started to move away, and he tried to go after her...I had ahold of his collar and wouldn't let him go, giving her a chance to get away...(And yes...I knew what was going to happen by doing that)... He turned on me, grabbing my left forearm, and jerking me to the ground...Suffice it to say, it was ugly...911 was called, and transported me to the first hospital, ...8 hours in the ER trying to stabilize the wounds and stop the bleeding...then a second ambulance ride to the Med Center here in Houston for emergency surgery at 5 am the next morning...that lasted about 3 plus hours... The results...35 plus puncture wounds in the left forearm, wrist and hand......each requiring debriding, and extensive cleaning... 3 major lacerations, requiring debriding clean up, and stitches... one in the forearm, (deep muscle and nerve damage), one on the back of the hand, and the worst being my thumb...( joint, tendon sheath, nerves, and severe laceration to the pad)... With all this said... I'm ok...I'm out of commission for a couple months at least...and all projects are shut down... We choose to have our Lab put down, and tested for rabies...(Actually the county required it)... found out Tuesday evening that he was clear, which we knew he was, but had to confirm... It's been suggested that he may have had a brain tumor, as this behavior was so uncharacteristic of him... Hell he'd crawl up in your lap, place his paws on each shoulder, and lay his head on your shoulder like he was your prom date... I'm confident, I'll have full recovery with my fingers... but the thumb is still to badly damaged, and too early in the process to tell... Sorry to ramble on, about my personnel stuff... You keep doing what you're doing, and I'll keep watching until I'm back up and at it again... .. If ya know anyone in the Houston area that want's to help out an old fat gimped up Vet, work on a boat...send em my way!!! lol... Take care, and looking forward to next weeks video...
Don Sorry to hear about your ordeal and with a Lab no less. Who would have guessed. The thought about warming the glass when working near the edge is a good one. Next time. Barry
Good question. I think the acrylic is a little more scratch resistant but the plexiglass is less brittle. I think it is kinda like which one is better, Ford or Chevy. Thanks for watching and thanks for asking. Barry
Man Barry you have transformed that ole Chris Craft into a fine center console!!!

Using a bernzo torch for bending the plexi works well, just dont burn it. Good job!! This boat is looking great!!
Sounds scary but I might give it a try on some scrap for next time.

Mr. Luke,
It’s been three years… how is the plexiglass holding up? Are you taking it in Saltwater, or freshwater?
The glass looks great but to be fair it mostly sits in the shed. My wife and I have lost the boating bug🫤

If I remember correctly it is 1/4”.
