    The Japanese always have an incredible ear for melody and jazz. Takanaka never disappoints

    If you're looking for a great album to get stoned to look no further than Takanaka's rainbow goblins. I only found out about Takanaka after hearing one of his songs sampled in a Run The Jewels song.

    I picture the after party is just them telling horrible surf jokes to each other..
    Why do surfers eat cold food?
    Because they hate microwaves.
    What did the wave say to the surfer?
    Have a swell time!
    How can you spot a surfer at a wedding?
    He's the one that's not there.
    What do you call a surfer who just broke up with his girlfriend?
    Homeless.

    I don’t know what it is, exactly, that makes this sound odd.
    It doesn’t sound very “live” does it?
    I don’t mean the playing, but the recording. It just doesn’t sound like there’s a crowd there. It sounds like a rehearsal in a studio, and very dry, with no reverb or something. 🤔

    • @rubonz7714
      @rubonz7714 Před rokem +5

      Live recordings are usually a mix between ambiance/room mics and what is coming out of the PA. This sounds like its just the latter.

    • @LeviClay
      @LeviClay  Před rokem +4

      Yeah, it’s like a soundboard recording

      @@LeviClay I think this is quite a trend in Japanese music - if you listen to Mint Jams by Casiopea (fantastically good jazz fusion), it sounds like a studio recording with no venue ambience - it fools you even more because the band are so unbelievably tight that it sounds like a studio recording in any case. I also think that Japanese audiences react quite differently to western audiences and their clapping along probably sounds a bit shit in the mix. I remember Brian May talk about how Japanese audiences are totally different and they don't tend to sing along.
