Carl Goldberg, legendary kits indeed... Another great flyer in this kit range was the Ultimate bipe. Gone are the days... Glad to see this in the air. Very nice radio too.

Impressive flight. In the mid-90s when I was a teenager, the person who taught me how to fly RC planes had this same Sukhoi but with the classic red and white decoration, it was the largest and most impressive plane in the club, unfortunately it only lasted a couple of flights before being injured in a crash. I never saw one of these again but it always left me with the impression that there was a flaw in the airfoil design but it was contradictory since it was a Dave Patrick design. This video clarifies to me after 30 years that this plane flies really well, I imagine it is not like the modern ultralight designs with 3D capabilities but upon landing it can be seen that it floats very well. Great job on the resto Andy😊 The Saito 150 was not their best offering But you can work on them and get them to tune properly I could hear a slight bit of detonation during your flight at full throttle Indicating a slight lean condition The 150 was notorious for that As they actually had very high compression ! Definitely get her rebuilt and convert to Ignition You will be much happier with the performance 😊
Open the high end 1/2 turn. Or like you said , rebuild it. I have a 1.50 and it is a beauty. I had it on a Hanger 9 Cap 232. And that was a beauty to fly. I appreciate your time making these videos. Still have the 150 and I found a white and blue Cap. Looking to get that one together. Thank you, Andy.
Not wanting to dwell in the past ... airplanes of that era typified a good day at the flying field. Goldberg produced two memorable kits in the category; this one, and the Ultimate Biplane. YS120's always found a home in mine. I was a better builder than flier, different aptitudes, I guess. As the hobby evolved (devolved?) to the "made in China" ARF choices, so did a lot of visceral enjoyment experienced in flying your own creation, either thru a kit or from scratch. But hey, enough about my thoughts! Thanks for the video!
Awesome!!! I remember those back in 90s. I have one I picked up built with a ys140. Need to go thru it with new servos ect. This video might motivate to pull thar old bird down and get it back in the air.
Great flight once again and well-done camera work. Working on templating the CG Chipmunk currently and then the CG Sukhoi will be the next plane on my bench and templating, so I can have and build from scratch. Been tracing them in LightBurn, so I can cut with the laser. If CG was still around, I would not even consider doing all this work, would just buy them right from them, but the 90s are gone, so cutting the planes for myself it is. Hope you get the motor worked out, would love to see you or the kid tearing up the sky with the CG Sukhoi.

Hey Andy, it's a nice-looking plane, it sounds good to nothing like flying old school. Your frysky transmiter, are they harder to add programs like elevator to flap.
I've got a CG Ultimate and Extra 300 that I hope to maiden soon. Both have DLE20RA engines on them. I wonder how the CG sukhoi would fly with a DLE20RA. I know where's there one waiting to be built
I'm only 37 but in the hobby I'm well over 100! There is no similarity in the hobby now than it was when I started. I'm keeping the good ole days alive

The 20 will fly it well but a touch on the light side. A 35 will be to much on the Airframe. I wanted to put a gas engine in mine but it's a odd size

Definitely not wore out.......little time on it. Saito bearings are very common to need replacement
