I can understand not wanting to continue forth with the content you deem “Critical” of the current creative direction of Modern Dragon Ball for respect for the creator of the series. I personally wouldn’t want you to feel obligated or pressured into changing the nature of your content, because of certain individuals who will question the very nature of your character or question the validity of your relationship with the series simply because of the climate of situation currently. Your content made me actually get off the unconscious auto pilot I was on with Modern Day Dragon Ball which was consume, buy product, repeat simply because it’s Dragon Ball my favorite anime of all time. You offer a different honest perspective on the state of series, as long as it’s not malicious and disingenuous in nature your content isn’t really a diss to the series regardless nor does it hurt other people’s enjoyment or viewing experience for the series.

I really appreciate this comment. Since I heard the news I felt a somewhat conflicted for a while. I even considered scrapping a video about how I felt Moro could've been written better. @@CAGExplains Yeah, I think you know what do to. This whole situation is just fresh. You have to walk the line for a bit. I think phrasing might be a bit more important for a while. Like you can express critisism in different ways, right. I mean, I don't have to tell you that sarcastic jokes that directly refer to Toriyama are probably not the best idea for the time being. You definitely shouldn't refrain from criticism or frame things in a more positive light than they are, but of course, you can emphasize and focus on positive aspects without compromising your integrity, if you feel like it.
i personally prefer criticisms in a more positive manner but thats just my opinion.

I sincerely think that when a mangaka does exactly what his fans ask him to do then his work becomes bad. DBS is fan fiction. A story made by a fan for fans, therefore a bad story. You should never give fans what they want but what they need. Not to lie, I find the people who comment under this video very cringe. Unable to understand that Toriyama has always portrayed Gohan as a young adult who hates violence and who prefers to spend time with his family rather than doing like his absent father and training every day. I'm glad Toriyama never listened to his fans. Eichiro Oda once said that a good manga is one that does not take into consideration the requests of its fans

People are the most critical of the things they love and we all love something about dragon ball. Just because of the unfortunate circumstances it shouldn't mean that people should suddenly accept his works as flawless masterpieces that can do no wrong.
It is perfectly fine to critique one's work out of a place of love, and that's what you do
So I hope you don't stop this form of content, you're like my top 2 fave db content creators because of this content (honestly if not for your videos I wouldn't be up to date in any way with super as I would have accepted that people will eat it up regardless of quality and didn't want to be part of that.)
At the end of the day it is your decision to make and whatever you decide I hope you feel is truly right.

Keep up your grindset, regardless of the Goat's passing. Criticism was ok then and its ok now and many years in the future. Not once have you ever been disrespectful of the man's work and most importantly. You never have been disrespectful towards the man himself.
Thats something that few people grasp. Critique towards someone's work is not an attack on the creator himself. Never has been. Toriyama had his strengths and flaws as a writer while being damn near perfect as an artist. If we dont critique and try to look at things objectively. Nothing gets done. If art being subjective was an excuse for poor writing choices and artistic design. Everything would be a masterpiece.

Wow thanks! Photoshop, use the magic wand tool to isloate certain colours (very easy with a black and white manga) make them a separate layer than do a colour overlay... maybe someday I'll make tutorials for all the stuff I do lol

Personally I believe Gohan had redeemed himself in the Tournament of Power and in the Moro arc. I believe Gohan was done excellently here in my opinion. His character clearly does not have the same battle and martial arts addiction Goku and Vegeta have, and that is perfectly fine; he has always been like this. Despite that, he was still ready to defend his planet and loved ones. They shouldn't have regressed his character in Super Hero; that way the transition to Beast would've been much more justified, given that Gohan already had a pretty good pace in the TOP and Moro arc

Given just how strongly I agree with your tier list, words cannot describe how curious I am to see if the next chapter drops any information or hints at where Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego would stack up and what tier they would be in. Since Toriyama didn't include them in his vision of the story, I have a feeling tier placement for them will be rather flexible and not as concretely defined.
Also, the fact that I had to change "Toriyama doesn't" to "Toriyama didn't" just ruined my day.

Honestly Gohan smiling at Cell, like a psycho instead of killing him, is exactly what Gohan is! It's completely the original character again. Cheeky snobby and better than, all these things are also Gohan. They're the expression of the inner Gohan. Let's not forget Gohan is someone who constantly holds back, someone who is seemingly meek and reserved and doesn't like fighting but is also someone extremely prideful, angry and debouch. When he transforms he puts aside the part of himself that seeks to please others and in turn exposes the freedom to cut loose and enjoy himself.
Yes it makes perfect sense for him to smile like psycho. That's the smile of someone starved from expressing enjoyment relishing in their new state of freedom.
i think i find your critcisms in the earlier video about gohan in the cell arc to be very valid. I never read the moro arc myself, however hearing so many criticism about it make me feel conflicted on bothering to read it myself.
Honestly this is the best case scenario I'd wanted for Gohan. As my second favorite character in the series.
Like I get it, he doesn't have the drive or passion to train for the sake of it like Goku and Vegeta. But the least he could do is keep up his training so he doesn't get caught lacking agian...again and so on. For the sake of his friends and his family which has always been a core motivation as a protector. so him struggling to find motivation was always a weird arc for him to have.

Gohan said himself that he was still training during the super hero arc. He taught himself special beam cannon so he never reverted back to not training after Moro.

Ye... if it were Gohan from the Cell Saga, the moment Frieza killed Videl and Pan would have been the moment Gohan's Rage would make SSJ4 canon.
Like, imagine it, as soon as Whis turns back time, a primal roar of pure rage is heard and there stands Gohan, a Golden Oozaru. Then the battle starts as Gohan tries to, desperately, get a hold of Frieza but he's too slow to do so. Vegeta and Goku proceed to involve themselves, one distracting Frieza while the other tries to reason with Gohan, the effort being futile. But then, Goku has an idea, he brings Videl and Pan with Instant Transmission. Seeing his family, Gohan't mind calms and then... he transforms into SSJ4. With, now a calm mind, he takes over the fight with Frieza. It appears to be an even fight at first, but then Frieza makes a mistake, he threatennes to kill Videl and Pan. This, proceeds to anger Gohan and he ends the fight, a fist penetrating through Frieza's chest and sticking out the other side, the Emperor dies in disbilief.
Edit: Beerus stands speechless and in deep thought, Whis asks what is wrong and then, Beerus says "This power the boy has, I have sense it before. Yamoshi was his name.". And then an Arc begins that is all about the History of the Saiyans.
Edit: This would not only fulfill the "I am looking for my own path" statement by Gohan, but also finally do away with the "Rage Boost" gimmick as now he would have full control of his rage. And SSJ4 would become canon, which is honestly the most importan thting.

Hey man, I really like your videos about Gohan. He was my fave character growing up, but your videos have made me realize the….issues with his writing.
Therefore, I’ve been thinking about something, and I’ve finally come to a conclusion that’s made me come to peace with this issue.
Hear me out.
I’ve been a massive Naruto fan since I was a kid, and…..I’ve gained a new insight as to why I like Naruto, the character, so much despite his issues. Naruto feels like what Gohan could have been under better circumstances. Think about it, Naruto, like Gohan, is a dorky, idealistic, insecure, “prodigal son” who has hidden reserves of power. Like Gohan, he awakens his power through extreme emotions, namely rage. Like Gohan, he must combat his inner demons and deal with his father’s legacy. However, Naruto’s execution works so much freaking better than Gohan’s. Does any of this make sense?

To be fair… he did teach himself Special Beam Cannon off-screen.
He just lacks his Fighting Sense/Mentality that’s necessary for Ultimate more than anything else.
Honestly I also hate how they handle Broly in manga, he isn't really a character, he's more like an animal, Pokemon or something like that, he does have some remnants of personality just enough to be remembered for something more than almost spreading and violating Goku and Vegeta's cheeks but that's simply not nearly enough, I guess this is the price for making a characters with literaly infinite power that constantly grows just by BREATHING canon, writing a character like that and then letting him live is a definition of writing yourself into a corner, and it's very hard to get out of this corner without shit ton of retcons or some actually good writing skills, which neither Toyotaro have or Toriyama had (RIP), I doubt Toyotaro will ever do something about Broly, not without killing him or retconning him to suddenly stop growing stronger out of nowhere and doing nothing
I don't think the Super manga is gonna end because of Daima. It's probably gonna be an anime only thing, or may not even count as canon possibly. We don't know enough about Daima yet to say.
You do make a great point lol i know Toyotaro had to be type frustrated at Toriyama. All the work he had put into making Gohan a relevant player just for Toriyama to completely undermine it all by nerfing Gohan for the eleventeenth time with the same old tired and worn out "slacking off" concept. I think that Broly character makes sense
He now have people that actually care about him and he thinks that his father died during his rage and I don't think anyone knows that Frezia killed him so why not train to control it so he doesn't hurt his new family and an extra layer to train is that Goku helped him after trying to kill Goku
And it terms of he just reacts he was alone in a Planet with his Dad so he wouldn't know anything (kinda like how Goku was just reacting to everything in the first arc but without the ability to fight)

After years of hearing braindead fanboys make up headcannon to explain Broli's prospective, it's good to see at least one person has a brain in their head. Broli is a nothing burger of a character.

I understand you're a bit hesitant to be critical of the series in light of the loss of Toriyama, but I never thought you came off as disrespectful, you come off as someone who's truly a fan. A true fan can acknowledge the flaws of what they like. People are getting it twisted, it's not that Toriyama foreshadowed these forms, he simply used his own writing to his advantage. He simply took the various character journeys and turned them into forms.
Gokū's journey was about bettering himself as a martial artist;
Gohan's journey was about getting a hold on his emotions;
Piccolo's journey was about coming to terms with his past and finding himself.
This is also reflected on Vegeta's form not making much sense, in terms of narrative, before the Moro Arc we never ever had any hint of him regretting what he did on Namek, not even when he killed people at the tournament to provoke Gokū we got anything remotely connected to him regretting that choice. He only resented the fact that he was responsible for the aching of Boo and the death of Gohan, that's it.
And in fact this form was concocted by Toyotarō to put Vegeta back on par with Gokū, had nothing to do with Vegeta as a character.

Gohan's rage boosts has been part of his character since his introduction.

He trained his a$$ off in the Saiyan arc to try and fight after his potential was discovered by Goku and Piccolo. In the end he was still a scared little boy when it came time to do his part. Flash forward a bit and he decides to cast his fear away and go to a whole a$$ other planet to collect the Dragonballs and save his friends that he let die. Then on Namek he takes a whooping from Vegeta and Frieza the (two strongest beings in the story at that time) just to protect his friends. Him no longer being afraid to fight for who he cares about is called "character development". Even after seeing how strong Frieza really was, when he sensed that he came to Earth he immediately got ready and went to fight him, despite knowing he'd probably lose still.
Gohan trained all of that time during the Cell saga as well. Not relying on a "rage boost" but developing his own strength. Was he confident and aggressive? Nope, but he was prepared. He was forced to fight Cell when he shouldn't have because of Goku. Sure he got a rage boost, but there was no way he planned for that, because again he had trained for a long time in the RoSaT.
Gohan in the Buu arc was training constantly, maybe not seriously but he kept his fighting senses absolutely. When he got his potential unlocked by the Elder Kai and got his Ultimate form that was no rage boost.
Every other fight aside from RoF, Gohan had prepared for. To a lesser degree in the Super Hero arc, but even then he confirmed he had been training to master the Makankosappo. Preparing for a fight is not "relying on a rage boost". Gohan was always shown to have the potential to tap into a rage power-up and just because there is no explanation for the transformation doesn't degrade the writing to the point where the character has received it. This was alluded to several times within the story and Gohan had even said himself he would find a new path to power to rival Goku.
