I had the great pleasure to use this beautiful little Sonor AQX Jungle Set for video production recently, shooting several sound demos for Agean cymbals, including the marvellous Treasure Jazz series featured in this video. Official demos coming soon on @digitaldrumming & @AgeanCymbals
I think the kit sounds fantastic, especially considering the very affordable price. It's a great kit for jazz & funky groove drumming, and might also work well for more rocky styles in a lower tuning.

I am 17 years old, have been playing drums for 12 years now. My kit was a SONOR AQX with Sabian Symbols, and it was absolutely stunning to play it. Unfortunately, I no longer have it. (or any kit now for that matter)
I’ve been a Zildjian player since 1988. I’m 48 years young. With that said, my God those cymbals including your hats sound far superior than my K’s and A Customs. Now understand I’ve had my
12in K/Z hats since 1988 and my 1947 22in K Constantinople light ride just as long. Your playing complements your cymbals and that Sonor kit in every way. Best of luck to you in all your future endeavors.

Love all your demos, Ralf. Incredible playing every time and your tones are always absolute perfection. I was curious if you have a favorite between all the various micro-kits (Sonor AQX vs. Tama Club vs. Yamaha SC Hip, etc.)?
Thank you so much Jordan! Actually out of the three, I liked the Tama the least because of cheapish production quality here & there. I was really impressed with the Sonor (quality & sound at that price are amazing), and also like the Yamaha for its unique sizes. KInd regards!

After getting a ludwig breakbeats kit, sanding the interiors of the shells, replacing the hoops, and of course getting some good Remo heads, they sound much better than from the factory. However, and that's a big however, they still don't sound as superb as this Sonor kit..
These aqx kits are really sensational for the money 🥂 happy new year! 🎆

Hey Ralf :-) Besten Dank ! Ja absolut, da ich Sonor Spieler bin, bleibe ich bei der Marke, und die AQX sind Qualitativ echt sehr gut, macht Spaß. Oh, mein SQ2 ist auch Black Sparkle, aber was spricht dagegen zwei Black Sparkle Sets zu haben 😃 dazu haben beide eine unterschiedliche Haptik, das eine ist Lack, und dieses hier foliert....Black ist halt immer cooler. 😎
Ralf, awesome demo and beautiful playing! ..... what heads are you using top and bottom? Any muffling on the kick?
Thank you very much, as far as I remember I put Evans G1 coated on top & kept the factory reso heads. The Kick had a little towel/cushion, not too much. Kind regards!
Absolutely love your style, what bass drum pedal did you use? I can't see if it's hitting center or 3/4 of the way up.
Thank you very much! The Jungle Set bass drum comes with a little riser, so you hit the drum pretty much in the center (I was using a standard Sonor pedal). Kind regards!

Thank you David! I am using Presonus Quantum 4848 converters and different mic preamps for recording: API 3124V (kick & snare channels), Warm Audio WA-412 (toms & kick out), A-Designs Pacifica (Overheads) and Warm Audio WA-12s for stereo room.
Most of the sound comes from the kit/Room/mic pres and my Audio-Technica microphones actually. I only did some basic / natural correctional EQing & compression, would be too much detail to write it all down here though ;-D

Would you be able to recommend this or the Jazz model for genres like punk/post hardcore/skramz? Especially without mic. Wondering if it could cut through guitars with those small kick sizes. It sounds amazing especially miced up but just wondering if it’s better as a practice kit for those genres or if it could play that stuff well live, thanks!
Hi, you could probably make it work pretty well with clear heads, lower tuning & more bd muffling. In the end, the bd will have less low end compared to 20"/22" obviously, but I have actually made some pretty nice pop/rock recordings with an 18" bd kit in th past. Kind regards!

Thank you! The kit has small dimensions, but "regular" acoustic volume. You might put Evans dB1 heads on it & use Agean R low noise cymbals for a nice sounding low noise practive setup:

Yeah, these sound incredible for the money or any price! My Gen 1 Safari made of Beech wood or Poplar is great as well but not like these. Those Swiss triplets or Blushdas at 11 to 13 seconds are bad ass 👊

Hi Ralf, do you know what type/weight of cymbals you're playing here? I noticed they can be ordered in options such as jazz, thin, medium, light, standard, etc.
Don't get me wrong, the drums sound great! But Ralf could play a set of 20 year old, rusty oil barrels and make them sound great! I don't whether to quit playing or rob a bank for a small fortune and use the money to hire him as my full time drum instructor! Damn bro..... ease up on an old guy like me!!!😂😂😂 In all seriousness, as with all of his vids, Ralf makes these drums shine like a diamond! His technique is utterly amazing! Well done, brother.... very well done!!!! Now, about those lessons......😊

Hey Jeremy, although the CLub Jam also sounded nice in the end, I prefer the Sonor A LOT because of much better build quality/parts and overall feel. Especially the Club Jam Snare was hard to work with, as it lost tension rapidly and even the strainer came off every once in a while. The Sonor build & hardware felt a lot more professional, which is surprising considering the super affordable price. Kind regards!

@@digitaldrumming That would be awesome! I definitely suggested it more than a few times in drum tec video comments! Oh! DEFINITELY Keith Carlock. That guy is unreal! Plays some of the best shuffles I've ever heard and his toms sound amazing with incredible drum fills. When I was watching him last I definitely remember thinking this guy is one of the most powerful traditional grip players I've ever heard and his drum fills are ridiculous! Dennis was KING though on Babylon Sisters with Steely Dan and "Reeling in the years" on the Live in America CD. When I watch Keith though I definitely think he is like the Vinnie/Weckl of our generation.
Ironically, I just went back and watched the drum fill and I think you are just playing BD RLrrll 2x and a BD RL BD RL looped, which I just started doing a few weeks ago.
