I'm 26 (about to be 27) and this is LITERALLY my life narrative right now. I spent my early 20s irresponsible, making mistakes but learning which is ok, but now I'm reaching the stage where I NEED to start moving forward, or else life will begin to make me suffer for it. I can feel my hourglass starting to tick whereas I was in "Peter Pan Mode" of frozen time even just a couple years ago.

Well i guess this termination of mental infancy and transition from non defined potentiality into specialization and limitation in order to go trough the process of maturing and later branching out based on mastery and security derived from it, IS WHAT MAKES REAL MEN! And generally speaking, since this is so rare in modern society due to the epidemic of flawed parenthood, a lot of males are non desirable to women because they failed to go trough these stages on the path to real maturity, leaving them ''stuck'' in fantasizing instead of achieving. This causes women to be in higher demand for fully fully developed men who are often referred to as alpha males.Hence, Women desire for real men. It is an accurate title of the video but it is more between the lines i guess.

Women want those types of men, we all know that, but the real question here is: What are these women doing to actually DESERVE to be with these men they want? I could be a textbook alpha male, capable of anything, an excellent breadwinner and all, but I wonder what those "women" bring to the table? A pretty face, a sexy and attractive body, a nice personality, good manners, youth, FEMININITY, those traits are the MINIMUM any women MUST have if they want a "real man" like the JP's description, anything less than that will be ignored or used as booty calls, that's the harsh and cold reality, but many won't accept it. If you are a high value successful man, don't settle for any lesser female, REAL MEN DESERVE REAL WOMEN, not delusional ones.

"You can go to University to not be something" is such an apt statement by Peterson; far too many young people these days seem to view Uni' as some halcyon holiday and don't focus on studying nor in doing their best but instead seem to think it's acceptable to literally just get passes - just obtaining an average of 51% or so - to obtain their degree. I have a cousin who was accepted into Uni' as - and solely due to her age, being considered to be - a "nature student". She wouldn't have been accepted based upon her academic results from her senior High School, which was the criteria when I was accepted by my alma mater. Not only that but she studied Nursing yet barely scraped through, and had to repeat a number of assignments and practical(s) i.e. tests. Now she is working as a nurse but I wouldn't want to be one of her 'patients'! It also seems that almost anyone now can enter a University course and unfortunately the value of a degree, and the recognition of - ideally - the hard work out in to obtain a University credential is gone, lost in large part because people obtain entry to courses through Technical Colleges and/or on the basis of "age" (as if that's shouldn't at least be accompanied by some rigorous academic tests too), and because it's been deemed acceptable to scrape through by just barely passing.
Maybe apart from the Unis tightening standards for degrees, employers could start examining University transcripts where the individual's exact marks plus any scholarships (awarded based upon academic merit, not for racial or other matters like sports participation) are listed for all to see. However, how to alter the typical tendency of many younger people today who have a ridiculously overblown sense of entitlement combined with a lack of work ethic?!

Plumbers have saved more lives then doctors. The biggest cause of premature death in the third world is poor hygiene and dirty water. Plumbers and plumbing has fixed these problems in the first world. England and Europe were once gripped by plague carried by rats which lived in open sewers...wiped out one third? of English population. Try reading into what he is saying before mocking the analogy and thinking before you open your mouth. Poor hygiene kills thousands of people everyday....dysentery, typhoid and the like...totally preventable by good plumbers😂😂😂

    •  Před 5 lety

      @@kathaira9431
You clearly did not understand my joke, because my point was not that doctors save more lives, but rather that Jordan Peterson was forced to say that because he just made a condescending comment towards plumbers, regardless of whether his second statement ends up being true or false. However, my dear friend, if you want to play the game of who saved more lives, tell me; on what study do you base your assertion? And how do you know Jordan Peterson was referring to such study? Did you ask him yourself?
I have actually done my research on the topic, and the evidence shows that it is not only plumbers or doctors who save lives, but the combination of all those professions, so if you want to assert that plumbers save more lives, you have to give numbers and a causal relationship in which only plumbers themselves saved those lives. I would recommend you step up your reading comprehension skills before you go on to strawman other people's jokes (I did not even make an argument). And believe me, I was not trying to be condescending towards plumbers, but rather mock JP for doing just that. I happen to come from a family that lived out of that profession during many decades, which is why I found JP personally insulting.

    • @kathaira9431
      @kathaira9431 Před 5 lety

Victor Magariño common sense does not require a study to tell you what common sense should tell you. Prevention is better than cure. The biggest difference between life expectancy in the third world and first world is access to hygiene and waste disposal and access to clean water. It is all over the tv everyday...donate to this charity or that charity to provide clean water...$1.43 per day. There is a reason that you are discouraged for taking a dump in the street....it spreads disease. Plumbers fix toilets and drains to keep water clean therefore prevent disease....common sense. How many people do you think would die if raw sewage was left all over our major cities. As for the condescending comment...most plumbers I know are good blokes and would appreciate that their chosen vocation which requires them to spend a vast amount of time up to their elbows in other people’s shit is appreciated by someone who obviously talks sense not shit. Perhaps he could of used a different section of blue collar workers...scaffolders or truckies to illustrate his point but plumbers came to him first...shit happens. In an age where everybody finds a reason to be offended he was bound to offend someone. At least he is educated enough to recognise this.

    •  Před 5 lety

      @@kathaira9431
First of all, common sense is the type of unscientific argument that cannot lead to any reasonable truth. Common sense also tells us that the sun rotates around the earth, and that the moon emits it's own light, and yet this is not the case. You seem to know this, which is why you tried to justify your position with more than just "common sense". To what you stated I have to say that I agree with you completely, but that you cannot attribute all those lives and prevention techniques to just plumbers. Architects, for example, also played an important role in that process you describe. The problem with an individualistic world view is that it does not allow you to analyse the interdependence between different groups, and that is part of what I was making fun of. Either putting doctors or plumbers as the sole saviour of our society is a mistake, and the unconscious slip of the tongue that JP exhibited is enough to make a simple joke using the same psicoanalitic theory that he is an expert at. I did not feel extremely offended or anything, and I understand that we can all make mistakes. But JP became famous by deliberately misrepresenting Canadian law, so I am more sceptical of what he has to say than whar other people who have no record of lying at such a level claim.

He defines 'maturity' as deciding what you want to do for a living before you are 30. Well, that's one definition of maturity, I guess. But it's not the only one, there are plenty of others. And it's tough for many people, trying to work out what they WANT to do and what they CAN do. And even if they do that, they may just not get that lucky break into the career of their choice. Peterson was one of the lucky ones - he found what he wanted to do (psychology/academia) and what he was good at, early on. And the opportunity was there for him to start his career. BTW, when he was young, it was a LOT easier to get a teaching position at a university than it is now, when every second person has a PhD, it seems. Many people are not so lucky.

having a degree in a design discipline (i wont say which cos i now hate it) we learned a design process - critical thinking and graphical and verbal presentation. Even after a Masters post grad degree you still just fine tune these skills, which is fine. but there is so much more to being 'a designer' - of course you need training and to gain experience in the work environment of the real world. to be honest wish i had never bothered with university and just went straight into work.

It was not great in the UK either thanks to the recession 2008-2011. I quit architecture when i was in Thailand in 2012 after a bad experience there. I will never work in architecture again. So no i doubt I would work as a designer or architect again . Too many bad memories. I have kept busy teaching English in Asia since. Suites me fine - still broke just less stressed. cheers

Personally I like Morphosis - thom mayne LA/USA - Eric owen moss also LA. and japanese such as Shin Takamatsu - my favourite building being Nagasaki ferry terminal built in 1996. along with a few hundred other buildings i could recall, many i have had the good fortune to visit. I have a dream of sdesigning my own house on a tropical beach maybe Thailand or Vietnam - my next port of call. I think i might have to pay for that myself.. so it may be a while before i realise that project.

I wish he would address the issue of having a learning disability. When he said that having an English degree and learning to speak, think and write would prepare you for any complex job, I've found that to be utterly false in my case.
I can read, write, and think deeply, critically and creatively, but those things are mostly irrelevant at the jobs I've worked at. The most successful people are generally charismatic, extroverted hard worker types who can barely spell but can get shit done.
I have NLD, which has no cure or treatment, and a terrible prognosis (worse suicide rate than schizophrenia), and I'm trying desperately to integrate the wisdom from Jordan's videos into my own life, but I seem to always hit a brick wall no matter what I do. I don't want to reach 40 (I'm 33) and still be grossly incompetent and unable to build skill sets or to set goals and make progress toward them.
I don't want to end up hopeless and suicidal. I just don't know what else to do really except try, and that simply isn't enough when you have a learning disorder. Your best effort is always unacceptable and you basically always fail, repeatedly. It's toxic and it conditions you to expect failure, and I haven't found a way to break free of that when you never get any victories over anything meaningful.

I set mine too high, but now even though it's still considerably higher than a goal, it helps in almost all circumstances. For me, it's a benevolent, one sentence version of why I choose to be in this earth.

@Tom and Hugo: He seems to be referring to men who lack a career. One might object that the traditional (and outdated) image of the 30something male somehow sleepwalking along a career path only to wake up on his 40th Birthday aghast at having 'suddenly' become middle-aged is also ugly. What is more interesting is how the image reflects Peterson's alignment with Nietzsche as a kind of pseudo-theistic aesthete (if that's the right term) - In the potential absence of ultimate values, new ones must be created, leading to new 'sinners' or "reprobate" to label ugly and otherwise reprehensible. Such a rigid and impersonal value system lacks the subtlety to actually find value in many unique situations. At what cut-off point does an underachieving adult male can no longer be anything but 'a bad thing' that "no-one cares about" (to use Peterson's words about some of his own past clients..)

"If you can speak, think, and write..." That's a big IF. After 30 years of teaching, I'd say very few students ever aspired to think. They usually prefer to be told what's what. And this is normal. Truth be told, society doesn't want thinkers. They bring change, and change is uncomfortable, especially if it is political. We're all in Idea Boxes, ideologically sealed off from opposing ideas, even when times call for a drastic Rethink, as the times do now, concerning the environment, culture, etc.

Then add to it, me and people like me, value judging every credit so you put your best effort during your least tired and stressed times toward important classes. Which meant anything outside you major didnt get your full attention. Some classes I took might have benefited me more or opened unforseen doors but I wouldnt know being in survival mode. All that said just to point out I was paying for current life while taking a loan for school. Luckily I avoided the credit card companies getting kids hooked on that whole other giant of a mess.
