The funny thing is I remember years ago a Japanese users calling American cartoons, anime because guess what that's what they call it. In the US anime mainly refers to Japanese animation (people will also lump other things in as well like manga, which is well manga and not anime since they are two different mediums, they will even call JRPGs anime games). However, in Japan people that say anime will refer to animation as a whole. Hey guess what in Japan SpongeBob is an anime. I still feel bad for that person since a lot of people attacked her for what she said and she didn't do anything wrong
